Hareem pants on a one year old boy

Met a friend for coffee today,
she had dressed her 1yr old in hareem pants, checked shirt and a flat cap.

I know it can be 'fun' to dress your child.. but I did secretly think WTF!
AIBU ?

& yes BHP, get thee to Style & Beauty with that toe of yours, it's so now it's tomorrow.

Think it may be trending on twitter as we speak.

garlicbutter · 30/07/2011 01:20

a result of a casual conversation by a rabbits' warren with my vet friend today

Surreal quote of the day :)

Bed for me, too. Might wear me baggy trousers

TheLadyEvenstar · 30/07/2011 01:29

Blush DS2 looks great in skinny jeans.

garlicbutter · 30/07/2011 01:51

Does he wear skinny nappies?
I'm imagining something like a fat panty liner ... Confused

whatsallthehullaballoo · 30/07/2011 07:30

My friend used to dress her 20month old in a brown leather flight jacket that was 2 sizes too big.......ergh! And then a beany hat to finish it off.

deemented · 30/07/2011 07:48

I saw a grown man wearing harem pants t'other day. It surely was a sight to behold.

To be sensible for just a moment, I have been known to put my girl in hareem pants (they were given to me) and they are actually quite a good idea for babies, as they can move around freely in them.

Tanso · 30/07/2011 08:10

I would rather see a comfortable child who can move about easily. It makes a great deal of sense for a little one to have trousers which are bigger at he top than the bottom because the bottom/nappy to leg ratio is so big. And they are often siting down then standing up then sitting down then crawling or whatever over and over again.

Stiff jeans are stupid on little kiddies. And shoes when the baby cant even stand up yet.

Bonds Roomies are amazing!! Not harem pants but the most brilliant trousers for under twos. (I can imagine some snotty mother judging me for dressing my child in those, Oh how ridiculous, that child looks comfortable, I really do think we parents should only dress our children in clothes that fit into an adult sense of fashion and what is right or wrong regardless of how the baby is feeling while wearing it)

Have hammer time in my head now. doo doo doo doo doo . . . hammer time!

thefirstMrsDeVere · 30/07/2011 10:00

janajos · 30/07/2011 10:25

Their called carrot jeans my 11 year old boy has some their similar to hareem trousers I suggest you may not know a lot about current fashion at the moment

Girls are wearing harem pants

Boys are wearing carrot jeans

solidgoldbrass · 30/07/2011 10:54

OK now I get it. I did have a Tommy Hilfiger sleepsuit for DS at one point, a mate passed it on to me and she had got it from Oxfam....

TheLadyEvenstar · 30/07/2011 11:46

Garlic DS2 is not in nappies he is nearly 4.

garlicbutter · 30/07/2011 11:51

Ah, sorry TLE.

Maypole - Carrot jeans! Well, well, so they're not harem pants, after all?!?

Lou222 · 30/07/2011 13:17

boursin I actually hate little boys in track suit bottoms, I think they look really scruffy.
There are loads of gorgeous, inexpensive clothes for boys and I think it's lazy and unimaginative to put them in tracky bees all the time !
So there.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 30/07/2011 13:20

I love trackies on babies. They look all soft and cuddly.

I have found it hard to buy decent, none gansta style ones for my youngest two.

My big kids were always in lovely bright bold joggers and sweats when they were little. Hard wearing, comfy and easy to wash - no ironing either yippeee.

I used to buy them in bulk when the catalogue had a sale on

That was the early nineties though. Boys clothes are all green and brown now Sad

ilovesprouts · 30/07/2011 13:30

i dont like trackies too my lil boys never wore em bloody horried dont like joggers too ! each to there own i say Grin

MegBusset · 30/07/2011 13:32

Oh I saw a load of 'drop crotch' jeans in Next kids' dept the other day, I had a real WTF moment. And hate the flat cap/shirt/tank top look on babies too, they're not old men or Soho hipsters. I also can't stand babies/toddlers in The Who/ Ramones / Kiss etc T-shirts (despite loving all those bands)! If you want a living fashion accessory get a flipping chihuahua.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 30/07/2011 13:35

Um, isn't this just the flipside of that other very questionable thread where someone dressed her 1-yr-old boy in harem pants and went to meet a friend, and was horrified that she'd dressed her child in Asda clothes?

emptyshell · 30/07/2011 13:40

Hang on - I thought one of the big joys of parenting was inflicting fashion horrors on your children before they're old enough to protest, getting the evidence on camera and then bringing it out when they bring their first boy/girlfriend home as revenge for all the teenage years?!

Had to be the ONLY justification for the 1970s orange and brown courdroy dungaree flares my mother inflicted on me as a kid.

AgentZigzag · 30/07/2011 13:45

Why did the other thread get deleted?

I didn't see anything offensive on it (apart from garlic being called a skanky minger Grin)
