Does it matter? Surely you only buy stuff that you like, not because of the label on it. Or am I being dim and a bit naiive?

MilkNoSugarPlease · 28/07/2011 21:55

I hope it's not chavvy Blush

I grant you that's excessive though

rathlin · 28/07/2011 22:00

I have a rose print CK handbag that was a gift. Get lots of compliments on it (not sure why) and nurse practitioner raves about it everytime I go to GP (I'm tempted to leave it to her in my will)and a couple of weeks ago, a child in JL came up to me to ask me where I had bought it (sent over by her mother). I do like the towels/flannels for kids but very pricey. It is a bit ubiquitous these days so possibly YANBU.

lawnimp · 28/07/2011 22:04

fgs of course it isn't chavvy

whatever chavvy means Hmm

how many chavs have you met who wear flowery pinnies

Sandalwood · 28/07/2011 22:07

carries · 28/07/2011 22:23

Oh help. Just bought the very pink & flowery iPad case. Very cath kidston but very cheery and I won't get it mixed up with DH's iPad. I just like it.

TrickyBiscuits · 28/07/2011 22:25

One or two bits can look nice, but too many kitchens now are so full it makes me feel like somebody has projectile vomited over everything.

Dawnybabe · 28/07/2011 22:38

It's either that or Emma Bridgewater, they're everywhere. I quite like them until I keep seeing them everywhere and then I tend to go off them.

After I've spent loads of bloody money buying bits and bobs.

maypole1 · 28/07/2011 22:52

I don't think chavs can afford ck they can just about afford the fake juicy tracksuit

marriedinwhite · 29/07/2011 07:43

Races off to buy Orla Kieley duvet cover for the spare bedroom - starting new, non flowery trend.

MrsFruitcake · 29/07/2011 07:48

It is a bit much when your CK bag cost an arm and a leg and you see a 12 year old with the same one as you in the queue at Sainsbos (as happened to me this week). I had to work hard to buy that bag!

limitlessclutter · 29/07/2011 07:50

Hmm. Cath Kidston was great at the beginning when it looked really different and fresh. But since she sold the brand the quality is crap and the design less innovative and it's all made in China. Emma Bridgewater stuff is all made in the UK - she is a massive supporter of British skills and manufacturing so whatever you think of the designs, it's better than Cath Kidston.

Hate the term 'chavvy'. Take a look at this

cornsilksy · 29/07/2011 07:50

If popular equals chavvy then MN must be chav central

filthyfunkproject · 29/07/2011 08:00

I hate the word 'chav' too - (( I'll buy that book btw, looks good ))

In answer to the op - yes, CK has defo become more 'mainstream' - loved her in the beginning but I wouldn't buy one of her bags now - just too common.

Schtum · 29/07/2011 08:17

I think of it as stuff for little girls. I've bought little purses and so on as gifts for children but I have to say I've never wanted any of it for myself - I find the colours garish and unsophisticated to be honest. Both as accessories for women and for the house.

I don't think of it as chavvy at all - just a bit of a predictable, unstylish, middle-aged and boring band-wagon. Like Crocs.

When I think of CK bags, I think of the sort of badly and unimaginatively dressed woman (beige fleece, combats, no make up and grey hair) but then there is this bag in an infantile print thrown over her shoulder. I think she's saying "don't look at me - look at the bag! - that's who I really want to be - girly and pretty! - not this frump in beige..."

However, I DO like Emma Bridgewater crockery...

Each to their own, I guess.

JanMorrow · 29/07/2011 09:22

Ridiculous.. it's just popular that's all! I have a sewing basket and a duvet cover from there.. but I love all that floral stuff.

MrsKravitz · 29/07/2011 09:23

I think its been chav for about 5 years now

surely Hmm

MumblingRagDoll · 29/07/2011 09:30

Schtum exactly!

passmethebucket · 29/07/2011 09:31

I think it's on its way out... like cupcakes, and 'cupcake' names (Sophie, Emily, Ruby bla bla bla).

Am still projecting my internal trend antennae to work out what comes next though....

Cleaning lady chic possibly (a la Hilda Ogden). Balled up tissues in candlewick dressing gown pockets etc etc.

JemimaMuddledUp · 29/07/2011 09:31

My MIL has had a Cath Kidston shopping bag for about 6 years. So edgy it is not...

TBH anything looks a bit common when you are head to toe in the prints. So a total Cath Kidston look is as bad as a total Burberry look. But I don't think one item is that bad (and obviously my septuagenarian MIL agrees!)

TeelaBrown · 29/07/2011 09:33

Not sure if CK is "chav". It sure is twee, though. Women wanting to wear flowery pinnies and make cupcakes and the like... must be some thing to do with post-feminism Wink Hmm

I live in Dulwich by the way! It is, erm, a bit LOVELY and ORGANIC. Not sure I would describe East Dulwich as 'edgy' either! Forest Hill is where it's at. Grin I'm pregnant at the moment, so swapping my 2 bed in Dulwich for a bigger house and garden there. They won't have Cath Kidston, surely?

TeelaBrown · 29/07/2011 09:34
