IN THINKING THAT THIS WOMAN IS NUTS?

At a gathering this afternoon and got chatting to a woman that i vaguely know.. Conversation turned to fabric conditioner of all things (don't ask) and this woman announces that she washes all her husband and sons clothes in a 'more manly' smelling fabric conditioner than she uses for her own and her daughters clothes. Because she doesn't want them smelling 'like girls'. I laughed heartily til i realised that she was serious then stepped swiftly away as I believed her to be a loon. AIBU?

Whoknows - if Morloth is currently in Australia, Napisan and Vanish are combined here and there are several different types. I have at least 3 as well, liquid, crystal white and the ordinary in-wash one.

Morloth - don't know if you know but Napisan is a separate entity in the UK - comes in a blue and white box and is found in the baby aisle rather than anywhere near the washing powder Hmm

LRD... I think that's fine, L'Occitane's fragrances seem pretty universal to me, with the possibly exception of the Peony one, but who cares? Grin

I'm a huge fan of JPG's 'Le Male', I wear it all though Summer. I'm not fond of the female range. The 'male bottle' has a useful...er bump to aid grip. Blush

tryingtoleave Me too.

HerRoyalNotness I use a scoop of value washing powder, a squirt of bleach and a couple of capfuls of white vinegar all thrown directly in the drum - perhaps with a scoop or two of soda crystals if the wash is particularly grubby. 40C wash is usually sufficient.

Morloth · 30/07/2011 11:50

Yeah Napisan in the UK sucks.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 30/07/2011 12:10

Flisspaps - you aren't meant to mix acids with bleach, gives off hydrogen chloride which as well as being nasty if you inhale it may well corrode your washing machine. Soda crystals will neutralise your vinegar (they are alkaline). I would just use soda crystals on their own.

That's reassuring LyingWitch. Grin

I refuse to use fabric softener as I don't like scented washing. I know Persil non-bio has a scent of its very own, but that's clean washing smell to me. Anything else is just wrong.

I saw an advert some years ago for scented ironing water. Does that still exist? I always thought you would need to be a bit of a loon to fall for that particularly marketing ploy. Surely the tap suffices?

muminthemiddle · 30/07/2011 13:28

Bloody hell.
I have absolutely no idea what any of my friends use to wash their clothes in. Christ doesn't she have more important things in life to discuss.
Fwiw fabric conditioner was invented and pushed onto the guillable market by advertisers. There was no demand for it until then, absolute fact. Shows the power of advertising.
This woman is a fruitcase.

HedleyLamarr · 30/07/2011 13:33

chipmonkey · 30/07/2011 13:40

Nina Ricci used to do a lovely perfume called Deci Dela. Can't get it any more but have found Lenor In The Pink to be similar.

ilovesprouts · 30/07/2011 13:43

shes mad as a box of frogs

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 30/07/2011 13:45

Too much time on her hands, clearly.

emptyshell · 30/07/2011 13:46

People actually have conversations about fabric conditioner?! In the real world, not in those cheesy adverts?!

Good god my husband's only concerned about if he has clean pants, nevermind what they smell of!

Disclaimer - I don't actually use fabric conditioner at all, don't buy soap powders based on fragrance and have clung to one brand for about the last decade so as not to set off my eczema anyway.
