To dislike school sports day

they now do sports day in teams so that children don't come last, my kids have never been good at sports but for some kids it's what they are best at, what is wrong with children learning you can't win everything?

I would (and probably did) come last in every single sack race... I think I've blotted them from my memory, such was my lack of prowess. Grin

I did love playing Rounders, that was my very favourite thing. I'd keep running around the bases in when everybody had gone in... Blush

Hahaha... lovesicecream... sorry, I can't talk either. Blush

I refused the ropes because I hate the smell of them; I remember asking the teacher to be excused from the ropes because they 'would rub off my Avon Pretty Peach handcream'.... Blush... did you ever hear of such precious child. Hmm

I loved rounders too, but always got picked last because I was rubbish and was made to field over the fence in the cornfield that backed onto the school field. :(

DD's school stream the children, so although they still have competive races and first second and third, they are competeing against children of similar ability so they all get a chance.

OP, YANBU

I hate sports day now as there's absolutely no point. The only reason I go now is so my son doesn't feel noone's turned out to support him. My DD is a teenager so she'd rather I didn't turn up anyway and has told me I'm not allowed to go!

Our local infants school is the pits. All the kids do is simply take turns in doing an activity like walking with a beanbag on top of their heads. They don't run, let alone race each other! Just makes me want to weep!

Was very disappointed at the lack of the traditional events such as egg and spoon, sack race and 3 legged... it just wasn't sports day!

fivegomadindorset · 22/07/2011 18:31

DD did sack race and egg and spoon.

My sons sports day had this idea. This year and my ds won every single race he was in. He also did the same last year. It's not his fault that he excels at sports, he is advantage Joe in the class room, but in anything sports related he shines.

I had other mums coming up to me saying he should be against an older year, which he prob will be next year, but then again why should he be penizsed for being good at something? I asked him after sports day if he would prefer racing class 3, he said no because his friends are in class 2 and it's no fun when you don't race your friends.

Bloody hell the horror is all comming back! We had to run round the outside of the school quite a long way and pritty hilly, I was never very good at running as I'd broke both my ankles and they were weak so was aloud to cut across the school field , there was a junk yard at the bottom with a bloody great alsation which on thus occasion had escaped and was on the school field, was stuck there for half an hour as it wouldnt let me move, teacher finally came looking for me but refused to come onto the field and help ! It's owner had to be got to come and restrain the nasty snimal
