to think that a music radio station should err... play music?

I have a 20 minute commute between my workplace and DS's nursery. On my way to pick him up yesterday I flicked my car radio between Radio 1 and the local radio station the whole way, hoping to hear some music. I heard the tail end of one song and that was it; the rest of the time was either the DJs bigging themselves up and name-dropping between inane laughter at unfunny jokes, adverts (local radio) or them talking about playing some music at soem point in the next 30 minutes. AIBU to:

  1. want to slap the person who texted the Moyle show the other day to 'stop playing so much music' round the face with a wet kipper; and

  2. think the DJs should actually, maybe, play some music? Please.

I love local radio- love hearing new music and interviews and local news stories. It feels like the presenters are your mates. The more we listen, the better the stations are (higher advertising revenue = more content). It's a difficult job, i guess, but for my money, i much prefer the smaller local commercial stations

Damsel she said she had no chance of getting one!!!

LadyClarice and Coastgirl - I have 40-odd A&J podcasts on my ipod and have to own up to listening to most of them several times, usually when when I'm doing the housework. My DH always wonders why cleaning the loo is so hilarious. Mr Wolfpants is the one that makes me cry with laughter. I struggle to choose between Adam and Joe though Lady Clarice, I think it's the two of them together that works for me. I do have a soft spot for Garth Jennings too.

AKMD- would one of the portable type DAB radios work for your car?

Inertia · 22/07/2011 15:55

Sorry CurrySpice , cross posted with you about car radios.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 22/07/2011 15:58

Inertia, yes, I don't know why I don't just revisit the podcasts. Then again, I struggle to find a good time to listen to 'talky' radio as I can't handle it while I'm concentrating on work, and I have a problem just sitting and listening (too fidgety) and I don't do housework. It's a good idea though. I WILL listen to them!

They are hilarious together; I was being entirely shallow and thinking in 'who would you do?' terms. Grin
I have to admit I don't like Garth J much. Possibly because he was usually on when one of A or J were off Sad.

I cannot stand the inane ramblings of Chris Moyles, his diet this, his giving up alcohol that...stfu! And as for Sara Cox, man that woman is self obsessed beyond the call of duty! I cannot get any other station where I live until I hit central Birmingham (as I forgot to take the aerial off when going through the car wash- whoops!!)

mayorquimby · 22/07/2011 16:11

I'm the opposite. I only listen to talk radio, I find other people choosing my music in the car really annoying. MP3 player is your only man for when driving.

LadyClarice so was I ...

at Inertia, I mean.

BBC music radio in the UK has always bewildered me. They could just play heaps and heaps of Brilliant music. There is no reason for them to prattle on so and stupid inane things -- the only reason American DJs prattle on so is to not make the bloomin' incessant adverts so obvious.

yanbu.
