I don't even think I could fasten the seatbelt on the plane.

Am 5'6 and 20st, it would not go round me would it!

Get on the plane and go, or I'll come and find you and kick you up the fucking stairs.

2 stone lost ... Jeez... I'd be bouncing up those stairs!

And you absolutey will not need a double seat!! (going by your weight, believe me, I know!!) you probably won't even need the extender thingy! I've used one on bl**dy rides at theme parks only... I am determined to go on with DD and know that the 10 cm strap won't go round me so as I get on I ask if I can have an extension belt - they pass it to me and don't bat an eyelid! You really have to not care what people say or think- have a lovely lively time!!!

As PictureLibrary says you can buy seatbelt extenders from Amazon. They're less than £10 and you can just discretely do yourself up without having to ask for one from the scary cabin crew. I am 20 stone too and although I do try to avoid charter flights which tend to have very narrow seats (the width is much more of an issue for me than the legroom), I have never had a problem getting my continent-sized arse into a scheduled airline seat with an extender on the belt and that includes Easyjet.

How exactly does stopping yourself being happy help you get to the weight you want. Being miserable and self-loathing doesn't seem to have worked for you thus far. :)

You are starting a new period of your life when you embrace your new life as a slimmer you. Part of that is doing things which make you feel good. Airline seats are uncomfortable at every size. But it's a couple of hours out of your life. It's a bit like a smear test - no one likes that bit, but they quite like surviving so they do it anyway.

You have to start living your life, starting from here. :)

aw Nicola, please go! ime nobody gives a flying f*ck what you look like on the beach/wherever. I usually go on a sun bed [flame resistant, back off ladies] to tone down the white whale look, which makes me feel a bit more confident when I'm heading off. Then when I'm out there in a bikini - a bikini looks better on a bigger person than a costume (optical illusion, see) - nobody cares. You also get a nice tanned middle. I get so relaxed that I forget to hoik up my bikini bottoms after I've pushed them down under my [ahem] baby flap to get the worst bit tanned. So I end up schlepping around with the bit I'm most ashamed of on full display. By then though, I don't care, and neither does anybody else.

go and have a fab time Nicola! (you know it makes sense)

I am a fashion designer and in my time I have dressed a lot of people. the most important thing I teach people about wearing anything is to wear it confidently. don't slouch, mentally cowering from anyone seeing your body - if you slouch, or walk stiffly, it draws the wrong attention. We can all think of people who wear their bodies with pride - pretend you're them. They look good, regardless of their size, because they're confident.

I know this is easy to say but it doesn't do any harm to aim for it! Congrats on the 2st btw - wow.

I don't want to hijack your thread but I too have had such worries. My sister keeps offering to look after my 3 children so my husband and I can go away. I would love to go to Rome for the weekend but am so worried I won't fit in the seats.

Would I fit in a cheap airline seat? I am 5 foot 9 inches and weigh 21 stone. I am a size 28.

pingu I have a friend who is the same height and size as you. I've flown with her all over Europe on cheapo airlines including sleazyjet, uncoolbritiannia, and deposedmonarch, plus some Eastern European rubber band charters which I'm convinced have wooden seats.

You won't have any problem fitting in an airline seat and my mate has never needed an extender for her seatbelt - request one as you board the 'plane if you have any concern about that.

The most comfortable flights she's had are when we've been in the front row or by an emergency exit as there's extra legroom, but Rome is little more than a 2 hour flight and the joys of the Eternal City are worth a little temporary discomfort around the knee area.

Please go; you'll have the most wonderful time and do take springydaffs advice - my friend carries herself so well and with such confidence that she doesn't look anywhere near her dress size. Being tall gives you a definite advantage over your smaller sisters - use it and flaunt it Grin

I have to comment on the fact that I must be most pathetic, to have actually MNed while seated on a plane (sitting in the gate, not moving of course). It only occurred to me later that it might not have been entirely normal.

I only had the extender on the first leg of my flight; i realized that I only had it for mental and emotional comfort and not out of physical necessity.
