perpetuating the idea that women are all jealous and competitive even when it comes to their best friends. every character is a really nasty stereotype except for the policeman and the 'funny' bits, i.e. when she's trying to get his attention by driving while on the phone etc etc are just lame. i loved knocked up and the 40 year old virgin but this left a bad taste in my mouth. she's such an unsympathetic character with nothing likeable about her. two thumbs down from me.

I think the film must be very funny for a poster to say that it's funny from the clips only. We all like different things, live and let live.

Freeandhappy - I don't think you can say it is not funny. You can obviously say you didn't find it funny but lots of people on here have already stated they found it funny.

Humour is subjective. I have a very narrow sense of humour so I regularly don't find very popular comedies amusing in the slightest, but I wouldn't have the balls to state categorically that they aren't funny. Just that they aren't funny to me.

some things can still be funny even if they go against ones beliefs. Jim Davidson is good at telling jokes of a dubious hue.

Yes I know chris o'dowd is irish but he sounded like he was an american actor trying to sound irish even though his character wasnt american iyswim!. Anyway the film was still shite!.

I went with my sister. We both enjoyed it. I was surprised at the vulgarity. I liked the realistic portrayal of the women i.e. not all botox and perfect figures/lives and neurotic over something that matters i.e. potentially losing a lifelong friend after losing everything else. Was very surprised to see Chris O'Dowd. I liked his character.

Oh yes I liked the fact that the women were realistic looking and not all air brushed and botoxed to fake perfection.

Oh bugger, I heard an intelligent sounding review of Bridesmaids (may have been on radio 4) which said that it bucked the trend of misogynistic hollywood crap and I was quite looking forward to going to see it!

I didn't think it was funny. (but I didn't like the Hangover that much either so maybe its me! )
There were a couple of humerous scenes but mostly, I thought it was a bit depressing.
The lead character (Kirstin Wigg-who actually wrote it I think) just seemed to be so sad, and had v poor self esteem. Was I supposed to be laughing at how awful her life was?
Maybe I've lost my sense of humour.....
I thought Matt Lucas's character was a complete waste of screen time.
I don't find diarrhoea jokes/fart jokes particularly funny anyway, but that bathroom scene (which everyone else I know seems to think was hilarious) was just not amusing to me. The "hysterical" scene on the plane, again, whats funny about someone completely out of her tree?
I did like the burgeoning relationship between Annie and the policeman, and I would have liked to see a bit more character development with the other friends. They were all a bit one dimensional.

Saw it last week thought it was very funny but suffered the same fate as all other Judd Apatow movies.
All the humour is derived from allowing brilliant comic actors to improvise and chuck out one-liners to see what sticks. Unfortunaterly this means that a lot is left to be desired with regards to character development and similarly the plot becomes very cluttered and disjointed. Also every Judd Apatow movie is about 30 minutes too long and about an hour from the end they all do the most jarring hand-brake turn and completely change direction as to what type of movie it is meant to be (i.e. they all start out as buddy movies focussing on one-liners and sharp dialogue which is quite often vulgar and offensive but try to end up as smushy rom-coms,).
I still think they are fantastic but this comes from his ability to match up actors who bring out the best in each other (for example the best parts of the 40 year old virgin are the scenes which just feature Paul Rudd and Seth Rogen taking the piss out of each other).

is this the new thing, you don't like a film so rather than say that you have to label it misogynistic

"I did like the burgeoning relationship between Annie and the policeman, and I would have liked to see a bit more character development with the other friends. They were all a bit one dimensional."

This was another of the problems I saw with the movie. However I've heard this is another result of the improvised nature of the movie, they ended up with som much stuff etc. that in shoe-horning the best jokes in they had to leave a lot on the cutting floor. Also they easily just had too many bridesmaids and in attempt to show-case most of the actresses for at least some amount of time they sort of sacrificied developing any of them properly.

IT WAS GREAT!!! I haven't laughed like that in a film for a looong time (not since The Hangover!!) I loved loved loved it - it's meant to be lighthearted entertainment, and it was. Can't wait to see it again!!!

I thought it was great too - and it wasn't a 'guilty pleasure' it did not disturb my feminist sensibilities at all.

I was just about to start a thread saying how crap it was. I was so disappointed. I actually loved the hangover and thought this was a poor imitation. What was with all the crappy accents? What was the point of Matt Lucas? What did he and his sister do that warranted them both living in NYC or, wherever it was. I laughed in the first five minutes because I miss Don Draper and I've been involved with blokes exactly like that character. And, you have to laugh on reflection. I hated all the farting and throwing up. I was looking forward to them going to Vegas and partying. She was so unlikeable. And, I hated the ending. It was so predictable. I just never liked it and I wouldn't take my mother to see it.

I thought it was funny in parts but not as funny as other people made out. Btw Chris O'Dowd wasn't meant to be American and they mentioned this.

I thought it was a good story line, best friend just couldn't compete with new friend and everything else was falling apart in her life but of course it went well in the end. Found I left the cinema with a smile on my face at the twist in the end.

I did mutter 'typical it has to end with her finding her man' so if that's slightly misogynist then I agree with that.

Very predictable and although there were a couple of funny bits, the whole thing was just a bit shite so YANBU...not sure about the misogyny - don't think the men came over particularly well either (although loved Chris O'Dowd, but loved him anyway!)

I thought it was hilarious but it grated terribly towards the end with all the "find your true self inside" bollocks. A jarring handbrake turn of direction- great way to sum it up.
I also felt that Annie was too thin and beautiful to be such a friendless loveless failure!
