to be eating a spoon of Betty Crocker vanilla buttercream for no apparent reason?

Background- DCs are in bed and I am waiting for the final of the Apprentice to start. I wander into the kitchen (as you do) and open a (random, honestly I did not know the icing was there!) cupboard and spot an unopened jar of sickly sweet, creamy, whippy american style frosting.

I don't know why but I opened it and took a spoonful and ate it. Now feel guilty. Do you think this will become a habit? Will I be forced to go back for more while I watch the Apprentice? No other adult @home to witness my possible bingeing on frosting.

Is this unreasonable behaviour or perfectly normal?

I hope you ate them together, that would have been delicious.

acsec · 17/07/2011 21:21

I sometimes make buttercream to spread on digestives...mmmm!

I have a jar of Fluff in the cupboard - I want to eat it, but have resisted thus far and think it might actually taste grim!

AuntyChrist · 17/07/2011 21:33

If you put frosting in the freezer for a bit, it takes on a lovely, fudge-like consistency. Also, you have to work a bit to get it out with the spoon, which burns all the calories you're taking in. (denial emoticon)

Stir in the cocoa powder. It works not that I would know.

Mandy2003 · 17/07/2011 23:00

Doh - I'd almost managed to forget that half-bar of halva in the cupboard till I read this!

Where do you buy the frosting from - it sounds divine?

FuzzpigFourFiveSix · 17/07/2011 23:37

Yabu. You should be eating the chocolate one.

I hungrily wholeheartedly agree.

Mind you I've not tried the buttercream one as I like making too much of my own buttercream and eating the leftovers when I do any baking. But hell yeah the chocolate one, OMG.

And the nutella and peanut butter thing? YES. I have sandwiches/toast with one slice of each frequently.

If you want to scoff peanut butter BTW, but want to assuage some of the guilt, cut up an apple to dip into it, it is a gorgeous combination.

My mum likes peanut butter with celery, can't say I've dared try that though Hmm

A1980 · 17/07/2011 23:39

Just a spoonful?

I would have had half the tub Grin

seeitoldyou · 17/07/2011 23:39

peanut butter with celery topped with raisins are called 'ants on a log' in north america.....eeurrrgh My canadian aunt has often tried to convert me to this grim snack. I'd rather stick with the teaspoon Grin

Celery with peanut butter is absolutely gorgeous! No raisins. Raisins are Satan-bunny poo.

I am American, which may explain why I like this combo? It's very common here.

FuzzpigFourFiveSix · 18/07/2011 03:44

Ah I didn't realise that. I love celery although I usually have it with heaps of philadelphia! I might give the peanut butter a try. Maybe. No to the raisins though, not too keen.

FuzzpigFourFiveSix · 18/07/2011 03:46

In fact I think I have some celery in the fridge and there's definitely peanut butter assuming DD hasn't snaffled the lot, so I will attempt to try it during the day

FuzzpigFourFiveSix · 18/07/2011 15:23

Well, I tried the celery with peanut butter thing - it was actually quite nice! Not as delicious as with apple, but still good :) I shall have to apologise to mum for my cynicism and saying she was mad :o

hairfullofsnakes · 18/07/2011 15:25

can someone PLEASE tell me where i can get this stuff from?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

messymammy · 18/07/2011 15:28

Oh God celery and peanut butter is really really delicious.Even though I am allergic and will get a rash Not sure about raisins, though I do like them seperately....

messymammy · 18/07/2011 15:29

Hairfullofsnakes, I get mine in the baking aisle from Tescos. mmmmmmmmm

Xales · 18/07/2011 16:19

All I can say is if this is the american stuff I am thinking of YABU! Although it tastes good from what I remember the makers use the most rancid lowest of the low ingredients!

Icing, yuk. Making a small batch of cake mix (say a one egg mix) to sit and watch a film with... Blush
