To emigrate to Australia?!

DH and I are 30 and have 3 DC's, we've wanted to emigrate for a long time. It would mean me re-training and doing a midwifery degree but I would earn twice the salary in Australia as I would here in the UK. The only cons we can think of would be missing our families and all the huge spiders/snakes!

I realise it will be a huge upheaval and our eldest will be around 10 years old when we plan to go which may be hard for her. Ideally we would like to do it sooner but we want to make sure we can earn a good wage.... AIBU?

Also, it depends on how much money you can bring with you if you are over a certain age - because what Australia doesn't want is seasoned migrants coming over here to retire without money to do so. I think for an older couple you need something like £140,000 to bring with you but that might have changed/increased with the exchange rate differences from when I last heard the figure (about 4y ago).

Obviously in your 40s your not near retirement age, but you're no spring chickens either - so having money behind you would probably improve your chances.

Morloth, I agree Kings has a lot going for it. The grounds are just mind boggling - just think what all that land must be worth!
Unfortunately when DH went though the average TER was 44. Yes, 44 out of 100!
Don't think Scots did much better in those days either though. The schools all seem to change so much over time, but I do like Scot's program in year 9 where the boys "go bush" for 6 months. I've got the boys names down all over the place. Would send the to James Ruse in a heart-beat though if they were smart enough.

The age limit is 45 for whoever asked.

44?! fucking hell.

If I had paid out that kind of cash for a 44 I would have been demanding a refund!

It had all changed now hasn't it? Using a TER, I have probably dated myself quite nicely.

Clearly dear old Bidwill did not have a class on formatting posts on MN.

No it's not that Morloth - when they started doing multi-word formatting, we lost the ability to bold and italicise the same things. :(
