to think it's weird of my friend to be so het up about pram choice when she is so laissez faire about everything else?

I have a friend who is very keen to tell women that going back to work after having children is very important, that you shouldn't get misty eyed about spending time with your children etc etc.

She advocates c-sections and formula feeding (both of which I've done myself, so believe me, this is not a criticism of her choices).

She very much thinks it's important to be your own person after children and to make yourself happy and put yourself whenever you feel the need to.

So far, so whatever.

I don't know why, but I just find it weird that she is also a screeeeeeaming pram hun. Specifically, for any kind of Bugaboo. The BILE that spits forth from her mouth about using any old stroller rather than a decent, pricey pram just amuses me.

I don't know why I find it incongruous, but I do.

Kerbs not kerns

HoneyNorwegianRidgebackdragon · 16/07/2011 08:11

John Lewis probably will let you try them in the boot if they can spare some one.

Thumb Grin....sorry about the him stealth. But it was obvious the ops friend is being a nob. And I'm fairly certain if it's small andoghtweight that your current flipover pushchair is a older combi.

HoneyNorwegianRidgebackdragon · 16/07/2011 08:11

Hun stealth

hairfullofsnakes · 16/07/2011 08:12

Yep the bee is good too - try both! If you live near oxford, the Oxford pram centre are really great!

Will be interested to see what you think catgirl! Grin

I should be given commission by Bugaboo! Lol

HoneyNorwegianRidgebackdragon · 16/07/2011 08:12

And light weight

Must use preview more!

Poweredbypepsi · 16/07/2011 08:29

I have been using my loola for my last three children, my first had cheap travel system - i think it was britax make?. Now for number 5 i think the loola has pretty much had it. The frame wobbles when you push it and the seat and seen better days to say the least. I am only in very early pregnancy and even though I havent been overly into pram shopping before I have found that I have become obbsessed with all things pushchair based - its scary.

OP your friend sounds like shes just saying what she think she should (there seems to be a trend amongst some people to downplay the effects a baby has on your life!) and allowing her overexcited mothering to come out in her pram choice - she probably thinks more expensive is equal to best for her baby.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 16/07/2011 08:47

Ack I cany be arsed with it. I bought one of those mothercare Jive strollers. Cost meabout £15 with my discount! Grin

MayDayChild · 16/07/2011 09:38

I have a bee, a babyjogger and an old off road maxi cosi three wheel job for winter.
Haw also had a maclaren.
I have trialled Jesper copies of bee (oyster, M&P urbo) and they SQUEAK like a cheap bicycle. I don't know why, they simply make a terrible racket.
None of my buggies have ever squeaked. This is what convinces me that the bugaboo is simply superior

MayDayChild · 16/07/2011 09:43

iPhone! CHEAPER Not jesper

Starshaped · 16/07/2011 11:24

Catgirl - John Lewis let us try the prams in our car boot. Just go at a quiet time when they can send a member of staff out with you.

catgirl1976 · 16/07/2011 11:24

Oh fab! Thats really helpful of them - will pick my time

hairfullofsnakes · 16/07/2011 14:25

Agreed May - the bugaboo is amazing - it's about being prissy or prammy (!) it's just an amazingggg pram!

hairfullofsnakes · 16/07/2011 14:26

Bloody iPhone shit! That's it's NOT about being prissy not that it is!

VanillaRooibos · 16/07/2011 16:05

I'm afraid I just can't get over the cost of some prams...I just couldn't justify the cost. It's a plain old Maclaren for me

clit · 16/07/2011 16:16

I'm looking for a lightweight stroller to replace the now too bulky/heavy second-hand M&P travel system I was kindly donated when DD was bron.

Gotta say even the McLaren ones are out of my price range Blush

pointythings · 16/07/2011 18:26

BitOfFun - Sorry, I went to bed so haven't replied. For field archery (read: walking through woodland occasionally shooting pointy sticks at rubber animals) you need a 3-wheel cross country pram - big wheels (18 inches max), and fat tyres. Our was a no-name brand that we got from the American base nearby, originally meant as a jogging pram - worked well and would go happily over pretty big logs.

Have no idea about what is currently available in this category as we brutally forced the DDs to walk once they turned 2 gently encouraged them to walk as soon as possible, but I would imagine that if you're an outdoorsy type this is the kind of pram you need.

hairfullofsnakes · 16/07/2011 18:32

Bitoffun - the bugaboo! Great for all terrain!

It is expensive but you can pick them up second hand too. I see it like this, we sometimes spend a fortune for two works sun whereas a pram like the bugaboo will last for all your kids (and they replace any parts free of charge if they go wrong - keep the receipt) and after you can sell it and recoup some of the cost so it is worth every penny in the end

Bloody hell! I really should earn commission!

hairfullofsnakes · 16/07/2011 18:34

Clit - how much do you have to spend? Do you just want a lightweight buggy? O baby's are great? And they recline all the back. How old is ur dc?

controlleddemolition · 16/07/2011 18:39

Look at you all pram hunning on the thread I started!!! Nooooooooo!

HoneyNorwegianRidgebackdragon · 16/07/2011 19:28

Excepting your friend, who just seems opinionated about EVERYTHING Wink, I am always surprised at pram hunnery. Most of the people I know on the pram threads do not come across as huns on the rest of the board.

I've had a fair share of people comment that I don't seem the type. I guess you just have to accept that we could be anywhere!

otchayaniye · 16/07/2011 21:40

I have never owned a pram. Fail to get what they are about and any conversation about them has gone whoosh over my head.

pointythings · 16/07/2011 21:55

Yes, but snakes the bugaboo from what I can tell costs megabucks whereas my no-name brand one cost about £40. And once you've done a few archery competitions, the mud kind of covers up the logos so no-one can tell what you've got anyway.

Also, archers tend not to be pramhuns. They're too busy worrying about how many arrows they've broken careening off trees when they've missed.

HoneyNorwegianRidgebackdragon · 16/07/2011 22:05

Nearly all the best proper off roaders are fairly cheap imo, well particularly 2nd hand.

I didn't get my bugaboo because it's a 'name' I've actually had mine for many years now anyway. I bought it because I fell I'm live with how easy it was and the many features it had. I'm not one to buy things cause of a name if its good I'll buy it if it's not I won't ! :-)
