Your fanny, so do what you like. But if you are going swimming you might want to consider a trim round the sides. That isn't a good look

I wish I could shave mine but 41wks pregnant so can't even see it! Did try an angled mirror and some veet the other day, but not so sure I did a good job!

VeronicaCake · 15/07/2011 14:54

I was a bit baffled after reading Caitlin Moran's 'How to be a woman' that this is an issue. I must lead a very sheltered life but I'd never even heard of people removing all their pubes, particularly not having it waxed off. Why would you do that?

I've given birth so I can cope with some pain in the genital region, but only in exchange for a human life. Not to make it look pretty.

MrsCadwallader · 15/07/2011 14:56

I got DP to do it for me once about 20 years ago but that's only because I'd read about it in Jilly Cooper. It was horrible and I've never done it again and it was my one and only attempt at making things 'interesting' in the bedroom (you needed to know that, clearly).

Since then, only on the occasions upon which I am forced into some kind of swimming garment, do I bother doing anything, and then it's only a case of dealing with the sideburns.

Is it 'normal' for women to do away with it all these days, then?

cantspel · 15/07/2011 14:59

On MN everyone seems obsesssed with whether women shave or not. There seems to be a thread about it at least once a week. Why are women so interested in how other women deal with their pubic hair?

KilledBill · 15/07/2011 15:01

Yes MrsCadwallader - infact you are positively abnormal in the eyes of popular culture if you are aged under 25 and have any pubic hair at all.

Its quite sad really, especially when you think a hollywood wax is about 30 quid a go!

Did any of you see that teen sex thing? ALL the boys said it was yucky and wrong when looking at a fanjo with hair, and most of them even said the men should have most of it off.

MrsCadwallader · 15/07/2011 15:04

God, that's just...... depressing Confused

KTisPG · 15/07/2011 15:06

Phew I was beginning to think I was the only hairy one left :o

LadyClarice I'm exactly the same - I wear shorts or bikini bottoms with a skirt because I won't shave my bikini line either Blush . I did it once, years ago and bled horribly, then got itchy and ingrowing hairs. NOT attractive!

robingood19 · 15/07/2011 15:19

freedom for fanny shavers

VictorGollancz · 15/07/2011 15:27

Adding to KilledBill's experience, I witnessed a creative writing class of 18-21 year old girls openly wince at a description of 'hedge porn' in which women had 'vast bushes'. The story used such a description in order to set the scene in the 70s. I can't say for definite that all the young women present had full Hollywoods, but the unanimously aghast faces certainly suggest that pubic trimmage is now the default.

As for me, a bit of a trim with a shaver at absolute most, if I can be bothered, which I usually can't.

ThumbsNoseAtSnapewitch · 15/07/2011 16:40

Blimey, I didn't realise the yoof of today's UK were so delicately nurtured! Or perhaps they just all watch far too much porn? Shock
They'd pass out on some beaches in Europe then - most Italian women, as far as I could tell, do not shave their armpits even! And I'm not sure it's that common to shave them in France either. Don't know about Spain, Portugal, Greece etc. though.

InPraiseOfBacchus · 15/07/2011 16:54

Hands you a frikking medal

I shave. I'm fed up with smug people telling me it's something they'd "Never ever do, ever" and that people who do are clearly brainless, desperate bimbo whores.

heleninahandcart · 15/07/2011 17:14

Your fanjo, your rules

catinthehat2 · 15/07/2011 17:15

You know that
OooooooooOooooooh sound that Basil Brush does?

Well:

OoooooooooooohOoooooooooh Mr Derek

VeronicaCake · 15/07/2011 17:18

InPraiseofBacchus why are so many people telling you about what they do with their minge? How is this coming up in conversation? What is wrong with me that I honestly have no idea what kind of topiary is lurking in the pants of my nearest and dearest female friends? Is a lot of wine involved?

LaurieFairyCake · 15/07/2011 17:23

"Your fanjo, your rules"

I have just snorted tea in my nose Grin helen

FlamingFanjo · 15/07/2011 17:31

I have a 'short, back & sides' thing going on with mine. So I still have a good triangle ontop but nothing underneath. I find my DP likes it, especially for a bit of tongue action Wink but still wants a bit of hair there to reassure him I'm all grown up!

catgirl1976 · 15/07/2011 18:18

Meh. If its only your DH going to see it and he doesn't mind a full on "bush" then leave it au naturel. Keep it tidy though if you are going swimming. I don't like the hairy look and just have a tiny little landing stip, but then I doubt I am likely to see you fanjo so it shouldn't come between us Grin

InPraiseOfBacchus · 16/07/2011 13:12

VeroniaCake - I guess I must just have very mouthy and judgmental mates! :( The people who said this didn't have a clue what the state of my lady-garden was, they just think they're being righteous by declaring all 'shavers' to be doing it for the approval of men. Seemed a bit odd of them to say that, since they had shaved legs and were wearing makeup at the time.

nailak · 16/07/2011 13:18

it may not be to do with porn but the assimilation of cultures as it is the norm in many parts of the world, even for single celibate grannys and grandfather s

Fayrazzled · 16/07/2011 13:37

nailak, I really don't think it's to do with the assimilation of cultures and everything to do with porn. I thought Caitlin Moran was fab on this in her book- so sensible. Do men bother with hair removal in their nether regions? On the whole, it's a resounding NO. Why on earth then are women wasting hours and spending £££ to get rid of their pubic hair and look like Barbie dolls. It's insane.

catgirl1976 · 16/07/2011 13:44

Of COURSE men bother with pubic hair removal Fayrazzled. They may not take it all off (thank god) but most of them do keep things trimmed and tidy. And for me it is nothing to do with porn and everything to do with sensation etc

loopylou6 · 16/07/2011 13:45

I don't get why anyone would want to look like a pre puberty child.

catgirl1976 · 16/07/2011 13:45

Most people leave a small strip to avoid that loopy

loopylou6 · 16/07/2011 13:49

I meant that about the ones who have the lot off, I really don't get it. I just give mine a quick trim everynow and then, as does DH.

nailak · 16/07/2011 13:54

thats what i mean, in some cultures it is norm for men and women, so when they come across a partner who doesnt do it they find it weird.
