WIBU - Just now at supermarket

Took DD to the supermarket. Approached the trolley bay and saw there was 1 elderly lady putting her pound in for a half-trolley and another lady waiting.

DD and I stand behind second lady and wait our turn. As the lady turns to go another woman walks straight past us and pushes in front to get the next trolley. Now I realise I could have smiled benignly and waited our turn but she clearly saw us and why is her time more important than ours? So I said 'Excuse me, what exactly do you think we're standing here waiting for?' and stepped in front of her and got the next trolley.

Her: 'I didn't fucking see yer. Chill out'

Me: I'm perfectly chilled out thank you. I just have no tolerance for people with no manners or breeding. And nice language in front of a 3 year old.

We walked away and into the supermarket.

5 mins later while perusing the pink ladies I felt a sudden and painful whack to the back. The crazy moose had only rammed her shopping trolley into me on purpose Shock and then strode away.

I hung back, rang DP and asked him to persuade me not to fashion a shiv out of the pen in my handbag and continued shopping. Didn't see her again.

I now have a big old bruise on my upper arsecheek. Too early for Wine?

So what's the verdict? Was I unreasonable to point out her rudeness?

You both behaved badly. You use words and the fact you are probably more articulate to belittle and she uses her version - swearing and violence. She shouldn't have hit you but as you get gobby some people get handy - you have to weigh up the situation better and you could have been less confrontational in the beginning. I would have reacted more your way as i'm a woose physically.

Jeez.

Is waiting a couple of seconds for someone else to get their trolley (even if they are jumping the queue) really worth getting het up about?

I know what you mean Giddy - phrases like "impudent young whippersnapper" have been known to leap out of my mouth rather than "cheeky wee git" but then I love underused phrases like that anyway!! Grin

Oh and sorry OP YANBU to call her on queue jumping but maybe the "breeding" bit was overdoing it at tad?

flyingspaghettimonster · 13/07/2011 14:35

you were both being unreasonable. Her for pushing in and swearing in front of your child, and for the outrageous assault, you for your smug comments about breeding. You could have just said 'thee's a queue for the trolleys' or been super British and tutted loudly... although she might well have still rammed you as it sounds like your comments were right on the mark.
