Infact I think you are being A LOSER

flooziesusie · 13/07/2011 11:45

OMG This thread actually gave me a rush of excite!

I am planning on being SUPER organised this year as every ruddy year turns out to be absolute chaos.

deemented · 13/07/2011 11:50

Well, my Christmas is almost paid for. I'm a Park agent and i get High St Vouchers, and theres only three more payments to make. Feel very relieved. Have more or less decided what DS2 and DS3 are getting. No clue for DD.

Am going to be very firm this year - I will only be buying presents for the children and the adults in the family will get a small token - probably some home made sweets or shortbread.

doodledaisy · 13/07/2011 11:57

Oh I love Christmas, have booked my annual leave. Can't wait. DH does the meal, I do the trimmings and all the shopping. DD1 wants a nintendo, not sure about dd2, maybe something Snow White themed. Only five months, that's nothing. This year I'm going to be organised and get things early.

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 13/07/2011 12:29

Apart from special gifts for close relatives, all of my Christmas gift shopping plus wrapping paper, cards, crackers and other paraphenalia is completed in the January sales every year.

Because I have so many to buy for, buying in the sales makes economic sense and this year I've resolved to wrap early like it's really going to happen and use surface mail for packages to the Far East, Oz & NZ because of the extortionate cost of air mail.

Storing the veritable mountain of goodies can be problematic, and I sometimes wonder if I should wrap all of the presents in January - it doesn't exactly wake me up in a cold sweat, but I have occasionally wondered about the chances of any of the intended recipients receiving their gifts if I suddenly shake off this mortal coil. O well, it wouldn't be Christmas without a few maudlin thoughts.

Ihavewelliesbuttheyrenotgreen · 13/07/2011 12:42

I have actually had two conversations about Christmas this week. But only very vague idea kind of conversations not enough to spur me into going out and buying wrapping paper etc Smile

zipzap · 13/07/2011 13:01

I got some good stocking filler stuff in the ELC sales a couple of weeks ago... Haven't spotted new season Xmas paper yet but have seen the first of next years calendars and diaries (proper 2012 ones rather than academic ones) only this morning.

I love christmas and all the thinking of presents etc. But first this year we hope to go away on a 'proper' holiday with the dc sometime over the summer which we haven't done before so I have got them each a nice little rucksack and am going to put a few bits and pieces in it for them to open as we drive along. I can remember reading a story about this when I was little and always wished it could happen for me so thought I'd do it for the dc instead... So far have got a couple of very cheap little cars, a £3 DVD each, basic notepad and colouring pencils (nearly made the mistake of getting felt tips but decide mess risk factor was too high) and a little book. When I know where we are going I'll add a little ball or beach toy, a comic and a little packet or two of raisins and non-messy sweets. Plus a few bits like a new travel toothbrush, some sunscreen and lipsalve, sunhat, new drink bottle etc

Have had lots of fun doing it - bit like a summer stocking but an easier shape to fill than a stocking! And it is all stuff that they would have had anyway over the summer so hopefully this way they will notice it and enjoy it a bit more rather than get stuff without really noticing!

5Foot5 · 13/07/2011 13:15

I love Christmas but July is a bit early even for me!!

Mind you over the years I have developed a habit of trying to buy a Christmas decoration from wherever we go on holiday as it makes putting up the christmas tree even more enjoyable.

BTW - this tardis of which you speak? Erm what's it like? Where did you get it?

tummytickler · 13/07/2011 13:22

Yay! I love getting ready for Christmas!
I have bought a few pressies for the children in the family (not dc) as they get a book and sweetie every year, and I know my Dad wants a photo book.
I start on chutneys and bits in September, and will start the dc's pressies in September too.
Ds1 will be 9 on 21st December, so need to organise for that also.

twinmummy24 · 13/07/2011 14:38

there was me thinking i was the only one crazy enough to be contemplating christmas already Grin
this year's decisions will include who to invite, last year i had 15 people in a small terraced house - not much fun! obviously what to buy for those relatives who have everything they want! and what to cook, it is tradition in this house to have christmas dinner on christmas eve night so that no one spends ages in the kitchen on the day,
now just need suggestions for what to get 2 5 year old girls! help please

biddysmama · 13/07/2011 14:40

we have ds1's xbox 360 because it came free with my contract phone

robingood19 · 13/07/2011 14:54

is this a new form of alternative comedy? 6 months chritmas celebrations.

exoticfruits · 13/07/2011 15:00

NO

DontGoCurly · 13/07/2011 15:12

YABU

Christmas is shit.

Every year, the same shit. Shit, shit, shit, shit. It's Summer now, Summer is great, please don't allow the shittest part of the year infect the best part of the year.

Thank you.

roundtoit · 13/07/2011 15:20

I am going to start a campaign to have christmas every 4 years like the olympics, i may enjoy it then cos i boody hate it now,

psiloveyou · 13/07/2011 16:20

Oh oh oh, I do please.
I've got most of my stocking fillers. Got one pair of Christmas eve PJs. DS is 11 but size 14 years. He is still into character PJs but they are really hard to get in his size. I found a pair of lego Star Wars PJs last week in his size so have put them away.
Menu nearly planned. Dessert will be a trio of: lemon tart, profiteroles and one other to be decided.
Living room is being re-decorated so planning Christmas tree colour scheme around new colours.

Grin How sad am I. Love, love, love Christmas.

BettySpaghettiOnAJetty · 13/07/2011 16:36

I am FIZZING with excitement about it this year!!! First Christmas not working, first Christmas that we have some privacy, first Christmas that we have a proper chimney for father Christmas to climb down. Am going to cook everything from scratch, have all our friends and family here, 2 real trees, the whole tinselly, festive lot! And I am not apologising for being excited about it either... So there. [pulls out tounge]

northerngirl41 · 13/07/2011 16:43

Got wrapping paper, gift tags, cards and some small gifts sorted... But am wondering how much else I could stash away?

We have a big trunk which is absolutely forbidden to the children "because it is Mummys" and that's where it all goes. So I can probably do some more gifts, but how much else can you do in advance?

I'm a bit super anal so we have all the christmas card list digitalised and I just need to run off labels for them. We spend a weekend before Xmas doing all the wrapping, drinking hot chocolate with marshmallows and wearing of silly hats whilst decorating so we don't miss out on the festive spirit, but you don't have that manic rammy down the shops chanting "gifts! I must buy gifty things!!"

northerngirl41 · 13/07/2011 16:44

P.S. I wish I had a massive freezer and then I'd stuff all the Xmas dinner in there around now and forget about it!!!

CheerfulYank · 13/07/2011 16:59

YAY for Christmas! We have been doing renovations for THREE YEARS and I haven't properly done the house up for the holiday yet. We'll be done this year and I'm SO EXCITED to go all Martha Stewart on the place. :o

mummakaz · 13/07/2011 17:00

Have got around 70% of the xmas pressies (started on the 27th of dec), wrapping paper and cards. I have to be organised as I have a big family and I can't afford to get them all in one big hit Grin

Love xmas but I think it's crappy dh has to work boxing day this year :(

melika · 13/07/2011 17:02

No YABU

CheerfulYank · 13/07/2011 17:02

We don't even have Boxing Day.

Sarsaparilllla · 13/07/2011 17:11

I always get all my wrapping paper, cards and tags in the sales and stash them away, I was thinking about making a start on shopping, picking things up all year round makes the cost so much better and so much less stressful than facing the shops in Dec!
