To think those boycotting anything to do with Murdoch are mugs

what the hell do you think you will achieve. So far lots of journalists and all their support staff have been made unemployed. Do you want the people at Sky and all the other Murdoch companies in the UK to lose their jobs too. You are not punishing Murdoch you are purnishing largely innocent people. Get a grip.

Chestnut - many of us have boycotted NI for many years - my dc moan incessantly that we don't have sky but i refuse to hand over cash to the lying scum bags in charge of NI. These revelations are only the tip of the iceberg imo re bad practice/dishonest practice/ walking all over your employees.

What worries me is where all this will end. We've already lost the best-selling newspaper in the country - are we going to lose the Times, Sunday Times and Sun as well? There aren't dozens of rich individuals just dying to bankroll national newspapers.

What the Screws did was shitter than shit and the people involved need to be held to account but good grief, it'll be a bad day for this country if we lose half our national press.

ThumbsNoseAtSnapewitch · 16/07/2011 01:38

Not if that half of the national press is all dancing to one piper, edam. Not really. Although agreed, it would not do to leave the other half completely unchallenged. Was NOTW really the best selling paper in the country? Really?? Am Shock.

edam · 16/07/2011 10:33

Yup, and it had more ABC1 readers than the Sunday Telegraph, Observer and Sindie put together. Grin People who buy the posh papers often picked up the Screws as well.

Glad to hear that! Thought you were having a bad day and gone on a bit of a rampage through MN after seeing that message on another thread Grin

Mrsxstitch · 16/07/2011 11:40

I think what we are missing is the high chance that other newsgroups not in the NI stable will be guilty of unscrupulous practices, its just they haven't been caught yet.

robingood19 · 16/07/2011 12:42

it can be argued that those who thought Murdoch was ever a good idea got it wrong.
