To think this is a bit mad for a birthday party?

DD's friend has invited her to her birthday party. The birthday is next Saturday but the party is on Thursday night and includes going to the midnight showing of the new Harry Potter film. This means dd will be coming home at about 2am. Dh and I are up for work at 6am. AIBU to tell my 13 year old dd that she can't go to this party as it is on too late?
Just to add we won't have to collect her from the cinema she will be dropped off home.

But presumably she can sleep in?

Mind you - I think the parents arranging this should make it a sleep over at theirs just out of consideration

I wouldnt be happy with a 13yo coming home at 2am, especially if I had to be up at 6am either.

I assumed it was a sleepover which I would have been fine with, it is the fact that she will be home so late and that we will be woken by her coming in that I object to!

Can you blithely pretend you still think it is a sleepover and embarass the parents into making it one? Or ask that DD stays at theirs? I can't imagine the parents of other girls attending are thrilled either

yanbu, it is too late the film is over 2 hours long, by the time she ge home and settled down is will be 3am before anyone gets to sleep.

You have kids, you have to suck it up (sometimes) on the middle-of-night waking.

But why will you be woken? Tell her to lock up after herself and creep upstairs quietly. YABU not to let her go. I originally thought it was a schoolday but it's the holidays!! MEANIE!!!!

Given some of the palava surrounding 13 year old's birthday parties you are getting off lightly

I'd only let her go if they allow her to sleep over. YANBU. They are being inconsiderate.

I have booked midnight showing tickets for my younger siblings.......sent them as a gift and my parents are happy to collect them at 2am.

It is a one off, never to be repeated opportunity that she will love!

Then I'd let her go. It's a one off. Give her a key and tell her not to wake you on the way in. I assume you trust the parents to deliver her home safe.

Sure she may not love HP but I bet she would feel left out if she couldnt go. Let her go and if you have to be woken up then it is just a one off. But I would form a little pressure group to make it a sleep over :)

In short, if you say she can't go because you will be woken up when she gets home, then you are a blue meanie.
