Bloody W**NKing Tax credits! Or Government should I say

Hai1988 · 06/07/2011 16:59

Just had my new tax credits award and have just found out that my DH's Working tax credits are being stopped as he has already had his lot for this year, £800!!!

My DH does not have a very well payed job at all and after rent and bills we have f**K all left and the weekly income of £140 really helped that is now just over £50.

So angry We need that extra £80 a week, I know it may not sound much to some but it did make a big difference to out life's.

Who ever voted Tory I hope your happy with yourselves that now so many family's are probably gonna struggle now.

Sorry not really an aibu but really needed to vent and wondered if anyone else is suffering with tax credits this year because of the dam government.

karma

yes those jobs always need to be filled but they don't need to be filled by the same people for the whole of their life. I started out life as a cleaner before minimum wage existed I earned 2.35 an hour. But there is always a way to move up the ladder in my case to a waitress and then a manager etc. It was tough at the bottom but gave me fire to move up.
I wonder whether I would have progressed and as a resulted learned a lot etc if I'd been on 15 an hour from the start? Just thinking.

But my point is those low paid jobs don't have to be for life!

glad i voted tory, shake up the country needs. 140 a week, bloody hell

Living in slums - no bathrooms ? How long ago was that...I was brought up by a single parent although my father was around occasionally. Although things are OK now they werent always. Bog standard comprehensive school where getting 5 GCSE's was seen as doing really well, no aspirations within the school although there was an expectation that once you left you got a job, there wasnt an option of dossing around. I was an admin assistant for a few years and the found myself in sales where I found a bit of a niche.

I dont blame the poor for being poor but there are things you can do to improve, qualifcations, not having child after child with no father around. All those things will sadly limit your chances. Of course there are exceptions but if you are looking for the government to top up your earnings because you want to do the school run, or you dont want someone else looking after your children then unfortunately it could well hinder your chances of earning more money and the lifestyle some seem to think is their right

fedupofnamechanging · 07/07/2011 17:06

Also no one is saying that everyone has to earn the same wage. Obviously jobs which generate lots of money for an employer will be 'worth' more, as will jobs that require specific skills.

Not everyone will want a job stacking shelves. For every person who is happy to go to work, do their job and clock off on time, there will also be someone who wants more of a career and is prepared to study and do a more intellectually taxing job.

We do live in a society where not all jobs and people are deemed equal, but the ones at the bottom shouldn't be prohibited from having a decent standard of living just because they do the jobs that don't generate wealth for companies. They are still keeping society afloat.

JoySzasz · 07/07/2011 17:08

Micro, they dont have to be .

But some of the time (for many) it is.

I made 2.35 an hour at 15 ,by 18 I was making a few hundred p/h

I have seen all situations and been in most.

JoySzasz · 07/07/2011 17:08

Thank you karma I agree.

fedupofnamechanging · 07/07/2011 17:10

X posted lots here. microfight, I take your point, but for some people these jobs will be their 'forever' jobs because not everyone has the same ability to progress. There is also nothing wrong with being a waitress forever, because it's something that we need. It's sad that people view others in a negative light for either having or being content to have this kind of job, as not everyone is career focused.

That is not what you said orginally Joy!

JoySzasz · 07/07/2011 17:13

What did I say coco

Cocoflower · 07/07/2011 17:14

"It's sad that people view others in a negative light for either having or being content to have this kind of job, as not everyone is career focused."

No one has said that!

The issue is saying the waitress in your example should suddenly get paid more than teacher which is then unfair to whole group of people ; and not understanding the conquences of how in simple econmic terms this is unworkable.

JoySzasz · 07/07/2011 17:15

are you talking to me? coco

Cocoflower · 07/07/2011 17:15

You said ""Whatever happens with other jobs is not really important right now"

usualsuspect · 07/07/2011 17:16

'Living in slums - no bathrooms ? How long ago was that...'

In the 60s and 70s ,so not that long ago

Rocky12 · 07/07/2011 17:18

And yes, if the only job I was able to do for whatever reason i.e hours, restrictions on what days I would work - I would clean. I clean our house for free - might as well be paid to do someone else's. My point is that you often you can choose:

  1. do I get pregnant young?
  2. do I make bad choices with men?
  3. do I study for more qualifcations?
  4. do I move to another part of the country to increase my chances of getting a job
  5. do I limit the number of children I have because I want a certain type of lifestyle

All of these things are an individuals choice. They are nothing to do with me, however I dont really want to pay for someone who doesnt want to do any of the above and expects others to pay for their choices

JoySzasz · 07/07/2011 17:18

No,coco...I was talking in relation to this discusion,I was actually saying in this moment it was not relavent to my point.

fedupofnamechanging · 07/07/2011 17:19

Coco, I never said a waitress should earn more than a teacher, only that a waitress should be able to live on her wage.

There is an implication here that the poor should just get better jobs if they are unhappy with their lot, which is easier said than done.

Rocky12 · 07/07/2011 17:19

Usual - oh for goodness sake. I was brought up in the 60's! No bathrooms - or do you mean outside loo? Think you are being silly.

JoySzasz · 07/07/2011 17:21

rocky, your number 1 & 2 are a little bit difficult to control :)

I have done points 3 thru 5 ,that makes sense if it is within ones control.

Cocoflower · 07/07/2011 17:21

Well Joy do you think if the MNW is increased roughly x3, then it would be fair if everyone wages were also increased roughly x3?

Karma I know you didnt specifically say that- it was said by Joy that other jobs dont matter- only NMW do. Which I think is grossly unfair.

microfight · 07/07/2011 17:22

Coco is right it is the cost of living that needs to come down.

Rocky12 · 07/07/2011 17:23

Joy 1-2 are the easiest!

JoySzasz · 07/07/2011 17:23

Goodness, coco I did not say that :)

You have taken my point out of context.

Hopefully you will have seen my post that explained that.

usualsuspect · 07/07/2011 17:24

Do you think people all had bathrooms in the 60s? ....I never and neither did a lot of the people who lived in the terraced houses around me

JoySzasz · 07/07/2011 17:26

No,I disagree Rocky ...some men turn out to be bad news ... not something one would know at the offset.

Pregnancy ,although ideal when all things are equal sometimes has other ideas!

I am glad my DH was born when his Mum was 16 ,otherwise I wouldn't have him :)
