according to a recent interview. Now, I realise she has brought her predicament upon herself. AIBU to feel just a little bit sorry for this clearly unhinged woman?

Feel anger at the medical professionals that helped her achieve this, and pity for the children.
Sorry for her? Perhaps.

asecretlemonadedrinker · 02/07/2011 16:26

I feel sorry for her. The media hold all the power and turned on her. What she went through, ok silly, but it was a miracle. I feel very very sorry for her, she must have it really hard with 8 + 6 (?) children.

TheMagnificentBathykolpian · 02/07/2011 16:27

"Some days I have thought about killing myself. I cannot cope"

I think that anything she may say should be heard with this statement from her in mind.

If she is feeling like this, then she needs help. Her mental state may well be the cause of her comments.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 02/07/2011 16:34

I couldn't care less what's reported in the Daily Mail, I certainly wouldn't use it as a 'reference' material. Hmm

TheFalcon · 02/07/2011 16:35

Why on earth would anyone choose to have 14 children, when they don't work? She's a criminal IMO.

AuntieMonica · 02/07/2011 16:37

misguided and deeply unhappy perhaps TheFalcon but a criminal? Hmm

StealthPolarBear · 02/07/2011 16:42

that's so sad. I can kind of understand it though - take me at the end of my tether with 2 children and multiply by seven
How did she earn £28,000 in a month? Presumably she doesn't work?

Serenitysutton · 02/07/2011 16:59

From interviews etc. I also think the irresponsibility lies with the people who stuffed 8+ ferilised embryos into her. She may've wanted. Big family but she can't do it alone and shouldve been prevented from using ivf to achieve that IMO. If she had one or two at a time, fair enough. Noone should have 8

revolutionscoop · 02/07/2011 17:09

Lyingwitch Reference material?? It's an AIBU thread, not a doctoral thesis :)

cant concentrate on the story because I am too distracted by her flat wrinkle free stomach. How is that fair when she had 14, and mine is all bagging and wrinkly after just one?!Envy

They are about 2 now though I think? I saw a documentry she did when they were newborns and it looked like utter hell but hopefully it will get slightly easier as they get older

tranquilgardens · 02/07/2011 17:59

I feel sorry for them all, her and the children. She is obviously depressed and under a huge amount of stress/lack of sleep/financial difficulty.

There is not father around, never was and her Mother sounds not great.

All those older children, having to help her, and missing out on a Mum.

The younger one's sound like they are barley getting their needs met either.

I assume that the money has run out for professional help that she got from selling pictures when the children were younger?

Maybe she is saying what she is for renewed interest so she can get some more money from selling stories or getting a film crew to do a Jon and Kate Plus 8 type show, so she can have financial stability and lots of activities to fill the show as the Goslin kids have benefited from?

hiddenhome · 02/07/2011 19:31

I am the only one who thinks she's brought it upon herself?

The clinic won't have impregnated her with so many eggs without her knowing. She must have asked them to do this.

All the children are clearly going to suffer if this is what she thinks about them Sad

I think that perhaps child services should get involved to ascertain the amount of emotional damage being done to them.

Serenitysutton · 02/07/2011 19:41

How does it matter If she's brought it on herself? It's done now, it can't be undone. Just saying "it's your own fault" neither helps nor solves a thing.

AlwaysbeOpralFruitstome · 02/07/2011 19:55

Yes she knew how many eggs had been put in, iirc the same doctor had done this before (despite it being illegal) and it had resulted in twins and single pregnancy's. The chances of that many embryo's implanting and surviving until they were viable were astronomical. I doubt very much that she wanted this or even conceived of it as a possibility.

I do wonder why she hasn't taken the adoption route though. I know, from seeing the documentary, that she felt it was unfair to choose one child over another but it can't have escaped her notice that despite a valiant effort, she is failing all of her children. I am ignorant to the adoption process in the states but if an open adoption, whereby she could still have contact, was an option and perhaps sibling pairs kept together, I can't understand why she doesn't see this as a lesser of two evils.

I do feel sorry for her though. I hope she gets some help and support.

Tryharder · 02/07/2011 20:01

It amazes me that she has not had her children taken away from her. She clearly cannot cope - and that is no criticism - of course, she cannot cope. How does someone look after 8 babies plus 6 older kids. It can't be done. The fact that she is American presumably where state intervention is minimal would probably account for it. I couldn't see it happening in this countr. Sad

Tryharder · 02/07/2011 20:03

I also agree that she brought it on herself - the stupid self-centred idiot - but the kids are the ones suffering. Society needs to step in, fast, and look after the children. She can't rely on reality TV as a form of income/nursemaid for ever.

maypole1 · 02/07/2011 20:29

She lives on welfare, the kids have taken over the house and she can't have anything nice I think she thought tv deals would pay for it but she's a bad mother and even the us won't stoop so lo

She claims its because she has so many that's why their out of hand but theirs a programe called 10 and counting about a moumen family who have 16 children their home is lovely an d the kids seemed well disciplined and al
The older ones are married and have jobs

The children should be removed thousands of couples in the us who could give these children a good life

lachesis · 02/07/2011 20:43

The children need to be removed. She's had tons of money, she obviously doesn't use a penny to hire in some help. There are just too many for one person to cope with, the 'support' she needs is to have some of these children taken off her. What she really wants is to have people step in and take over whilst she swans off getting more plastic surgery.

She had the kids as a meal ticket.

tranquilgardens · 02/07/2011 20:45

18 kids and counting Maypole, have a Mum and a Dad, the children are spaced out, the most she had was twins, and the older one's take charage of the younger one's when a new baby comes along, I also understand that there are not any children with disabilities within the Duggars, where as Octomum has also got a set of twins as well as eight babies, and of her children she has three if I have it correct with disabilities and is a lone parent of sixteen under ten.

asecretlemonadedrinker · 02/07/2011 20:46

Would you adopt out your children?? She does clearly need help, but it's unfair to say take the children away. I can see how she would get through alot of money, quickly.

lachesis · 02/07/2011 20:47

She had more IVF to have more kids even after she had 3 with disabilities.

Honestly, the best thing is for at least some of them to be removed.

Of course, she won't want that because then the money will decrease.

The doctor who agreed to do this to her has already been struck off. He can't practise anymore.
