to be saddened by the utter lack of humanity of this 'journalist'

I know I'm not being unreasonable BTW. And I can't stop crying.

Here: Writer Kia Abdullah mocks death of gap year students on Twitter.

Three sets of parents have lost their beautiful sons and she finds it funny because they have double-barrelled names?

bibbitybobbityhat · 02/07/2011 13:53

I am revolted by her. Those boys went to our local secondary school, and though I didn't know them personally, it has shaken our little corner of London. Cannot put into words how disgusted I feel, silly, silly, silly, woman.

perfumedlife · 02/07/2011 13:59

Although not a journalist, she is is a published author and regular contributor to CiF on the Guardian so I can see why it comes accross as Guardian sanctioned.

She managed to write a piece on being embarrassed about having an IQ of 150, odd way to blush, broadcasting it on the world wide web.

Those tragic deaths are bad enough, but now the family have to endure this, for their names? They attended the Charter school in London, which is a state school.

Good week for Jahann Hari at the Independant too.

Peachy · 02/07/2011 14:08

It is technially impossible to write soemthing like this and not be U.

Peachy · 02/07/2011 14:10

29?????? when ehr age w3as given as an excuse I thought she must be 19 or something!

29 is adult; heck insome palces it's not far off life expectancy

TheFalcon · 02/07/2011 14:17

People who write for the Guardian are idiots. Most of them are quite posh, but they hate anyone posher than themselves, and like to portray themselves as working-class. I think they all have serious issues tbh.

TheOriginalFAB · 02/07/2011 14:21

She hasn't written for the Guardian for over a year so regular contributor is a bit tenuous.

lionheart · 02/07/2011 14:41

This has nothing to do with the Guardian. She is twisted.

Peachy · 03/07/2011 10:09

TheFalcom I have a friend who writes for The Guardian on the same basis as this lady; she is none of those things. Well, a little bit posh I guess but that's not even relevant to her field of writing.

And if I bought a paper it would be the Grauniad, and yet I have stated that this lady is beyond the pail.

One nasty cow does not mean everyone who ever chose a paper is tainted.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 03/07/2011 10:18

shocking comments..and, not that their names are indeed relevant..but a lot of kids at my DD's nursery have double barrelled names and are working class.

QuietTiger · 03/07/2011 11:18

What an absolutely vile, unspeakable woman. I doubt she will be writing for the Guardian again.

It doesn't matter if the 3 people who were killed were on a gap year, a mission from God, charity workers, bankers, middle class, working class, had double barrelled surnames or had 40 names using the letter of the alpahbet twice.

What matters, is the fact that families are grieving the loss of their loved ones and they deserve our compassion and respect. They certainly don't deserve some 2 bit "journalist" laughing at the tradegy because of her misguided faux social superiority because she's "not middle class". Stupid bitch.

Empusa · 03/07/2011 12:12

Well she got the attention she so obviously craved.

Hope she loses work over it

IWantAnotherBaby · 03/07/2011 12:48

What an evil witch. I also hope her career fails dismally; who would want her writing for them after that?

takethisonehereforastart · 03/07/2011 12:57

What a poisonous, jealous and spiteful little turd she is.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 03/07/2011 12:57

an apology to the families, taken from her twitter feed; she wanted to emulate Frankie Boyle in taboo-breaking, apparently stupid woman, thoughtless and selfish beyond belief

Nancy66 · 03/07/2011 12:59

Strikes me as the sort of vain, self-absorbed person that would do/say anything to get attention - bit like a Big Brother contestant.

Cocoflower · 03/07/2011 13:00

How did this even get published? Im not an editor or even a journalist but even I can see allowing this to get published is all kinds of wrong.

She is the wrong career.

My deepest sympathies to the son's families and friends if you read this.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 03/07/2011 13:04

coco, it's not published, she wrote it on twitter

The Guardian, whom she has worked for in the past, has distanced itself from her

Cocoflower · 03/07/2011 13:10

Oh I see- I thought it was published in the Guardian itself. Was a little surprised to say the least but happily not the case.

Still think she needs a new career.

Empusa · 03/07/2011 13:13

That apology is a bit "I'm sorry, but.." isn't it?

xstitch · 03/07/2011 13:13

29? I would expect better from even a 19yr old tbh.

Originally made a typo there and typed 9 year old but I think that may be correct. IF dd had laughed at something like that she would receive short shrift.

edam · 03/07/2011 13:19

Oh, is The Charter School a state school? When I read the original report in the Standard, I did think the double-barrelled names and school meant they were all posh. Which isn't relevant to the tragedy of their deaths at all, was just the impression it created.

One of the fathers said he didn't know a human body could produce so many tears. Heartrending.

Rhinestone · 03/07/2011 14:00

Utter bitch and a very nasty example of reverse snobbism. A nasty left-wing journo laughing at their deaths as they have double-barreled names. She is of Bangladeshi origin and grew up in Tower Hamlets.

But imagine this - a white, middle-class journo laughing at the deaths of three Bangaldeshi-origin teenagers from Tower Hamlets who are killed on a trip seeing family in Bangladesh. And tweeting that she smiled when she heard their names which obviously marked them out as Bangladeshi. Don't you think there'd be far more of an outcry?

elinorbellowed · 03/07/2011 15:46

It's a disgusting thing to write. She's loathsome. However, she's not loathsome because she's an occasional contributor to the Guardian. And she's not loathsome because she's British born Asian. My heart sunk when I saw her surname. If even the Guardian mentions her race in its article, just imagine how the Daily Mail is going to spin it. Nasty ungrateful Asian girl mocks hard working dead British boys?
She needs to be ignored and hopefully she'll go away.

TheMagnificentBathykolpian · 03/07/2011 15:49

Frankie Boyle? She wants to emulate a man who makes vile and sick jokes about disabled children?

She's even more of a twat than I thought.

FranSanDisco · 03/07/2011 15:52

Rhinestone, was thinking the same.
