To do the Junior Maths Challenge myself?

Amaretti · 01/07/2011 12:16

DS1 is in year 7 and recently obtained a gold certificate in the junior maths challenge. I was pretty impressed, and decided to have a go myself to see how hard it was. Turns out it's not actually that hard Grin

Anyone else up for it? The link is below, you can't spend more than an hour on it and read the mark scheme before you start, as you can lose marks for answering the later questions incorrectly.

Go on- give it a try?

MrsK you are plainly exempt from this!

Erm 69 - that's a silver too. Everyone is very impressive so far.

OP posts:
TrilllianAstra · 01/07/2011 19:19

MamaChocoholic · 01/07/2011 21:20

I think 123 - all correct, except qu. 23, 25 which I didn't answer.

Amaretti · 01/07/2011 21:25

Ooh that's very good. You are our winner so far. You are so good that you would get gold AND be asked to go on to the next stage. But then they'd see you aren't twelve of courseGrin

OP posts:
Amaretti · 01/07/2011 21:26

Unless you are twelve?!

OP posts:
MamaChocoholic · 01/07/2011 21:28

Definitely not 12 Grin

but I do have a maths degree, so perhaps an unfair advantage?

Nope, no calculators!

Woowoo - how did you get on?

OP posts:
newlark · 02/07/2011 08:54

I haven't tried this paper yet but when I was teaching Maths I used to love doing the JMC (and the Intermediate/Senior version) while the students were sitting the paper - the teachers used to compare answers afterwards and heave a sigh of relief if we had the same solutions and hadn't made any mistakes which might have been a touch embarrasing Grin

youarekidding · 02/07/2011 09:05

I've answered them all. How do I check they're right.

youarekidding · 02/07/2011 09:08

OK done it. Got question 22 and 23 wrong. Answered all others and are correct.

Do I get a certificate?

I'm going to get my friend whos a primary school teacher to do this later. Grin

Wallace · 02/07/2011 09:18

will do later

might see if i can get my almost 12 year old to do it too.

Amaretti · 02/07/2011 15:51

Kidding, I think that puts you on 119 which is excellent. Yes, you get a gold!

Much respect to anyone who can go anywhere near the intermediate or senior paper.

So our leader board goes like this:

Mamachocoholic 123
Youarekidding 119
Amaretti 110
Nickel babe 74
Happyhippo 69
Mrskravitz Honorary mention for past successes

Well done everyone, certificates will be given out in end of term assembly Grin

111

made a couple of silly mistakes. The first silly mistake was doing it with all the kids around Grin

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 02/07/2011 16:06

Just came on here to applaud Worra's post.... (without the shit, though). Grin

Now... do I believe that people will give their true marks here? Not on your nelly...

roisin · 02/07/2011 16:29

Yes, I did these with the boys when they were prepping and found them quite easy.

But the higher level papers and next rounds soon become impenetrable for my little brain!

MrsKravitz · 02/07/2011 16:30

Note Im not game to do it now Grin
