I mean, the injustice of it!

They don't give a bollocks about politics or pension plans, all they know is shed loads of children are getting the day off to play in the sunshine and they've been left out.

I would have been spitting feathers if it were me.

But then I hear that some children actually like school these days, but I've discounted that as a vicious lie spun by smug mums who are showing off about their DC Grin

My DD is at school as usual-the whole school are in too. Clearly they don't give a fuck about politics around here. Or they care an awful lot about our children, I'm not sure which.

edam · 29/06/2011 21:33

ds is very disgruntled about this. Two-thirds of the classes at his school will be off. But his is still running.

Bless him, he tried to convince me the message I'd had from school was wrong 'because Mxxxx's mummy told me my class is cancelled and she's the deputy head'. (I checked, just in case, but sadly for ds he really is going to have to go to school tomorrow.)

Bomb scares at school a regular thing in your neck of the woods then maeve? Shock

Just had to point out floosie that not all Scottish local education authorities have broken up for summer yet!!! Some of us still have this week to go.............. but then we will go back later! Grin

Poor little mites who aren't getting a day off! That sucks if all your friends are!

queenmaeve · 29/06/2011 22:41

Oh god yes agent. We used to plan on leaving hoax devices but we never had the nerve to go through with it!

edam · 29/06/2011 22:45

are we talking Northern Ireland in the bad old days, Queenmaeve?

queenmaeve · 29/06/2011 22:49

Yes edam

edam · 29/06/2011 22:52

I won't tell anyone if you don't. Grin

DooinMeCleanin · 29/06/2011 22:53

Mine are off. Dd2 is devesated. Dd1 is over the moon and has been encouraging them to strike again Grin.

The TA mentioned today that they are still going in as they are with a different union and cannot strike, dd2 offered to come in and keep them company. Poor dd2. She has gone to bed in her school uniform determined that she will be going to nursery in the morning. Dd1 is still awake, since she has no school she is determined to make the most of it.

sharbie · 29/06/2011 23:25

ah thanks zigzag

talking of the old days of bomb scares - we had one at work once, it happened to be the day i had mislaid my packed lunch....i always wondered if there was a connection

startail · 29/06/2011 23:33

DD2 isn't she's going on a trip she's been looking forward to for ages.
DD1's school are on strike, but she'd better not be she has a music exam and a history project to keep her busy Smile

DD2 will be pissed off next week because her sister has a teacher training day (She doesn't, they got a much better return date last September by using a non contact day and so have non left)

JaneBennet · 30/06/2011 05:57

We're on the first day of our summer holidays here but do feel for those with a combination of children at school/not at school.

EttiKetti · 30/06/2011 06:18

I have one off and two in. They are not bothered, they do love school, sorry :o

itisnearlysummer · 30/06/2011 07:04

DDs primary school is open.

DSs secondary school isn't.

DD does love school and when she was told DSs school was closed she gave him a hug to cheer him up! Grin

DS is taking DD to school today to "cheer him up".

onceamai · 30/06/2011 07:09

DS is at school; DD is off; I have to go in this morning to make sure everyone who turns up is signed in and make sure pay is deducted for all those who don't. Have had to book annual leave this afternoon.

jester68 · 30/06/2011 07:37

My daughter is at school today, but as she is only 5 don't think she has realised that other children are off at different schools.

Though she has tomorrow off anyway as it is inset day so she is very excited about that!!!

FebreezeYourJeans · 30/06/2011 07:49

My dd is off and my ds is in, that's the best way round - there would be mutiny from my dd if she had to go in and her brother didn't.

my ds school is entirely open, the teachers there are such babies that I'm quite sure they don't think that the word 'pension' could ever apply to them.

eandh · 30/06/2011 07:52

DD1 school open (dd2 at preschool so unaffected) its a big school (almost 600 pupils between infants and juniors) and the whole school is open!

Groovee · 30/06/2011 07:52

In Edinburgh there are no schools striking but it's a lot of nursery last days and we finish tomorrow yipeeeeeeeee. I'd be well miffed if they were off today. I have holiday shopping to do

TartyMcFarty · 30/06/2011 08:28

Kids are going to have to get used to an increasingly politicised society in the near future. They'll learn a lot about citizenship from it!

wimpybar · 30/06/2011 08:31

my son is very unhappy, all the local kids are out on their bikes already and he has to go to school :( shame

TrilllianAstra · 30/06/2011 08:52

YABU for using the phrase "poor darling children".

That is all.

RitaMorgan · 30/06/2011 08:59

I would keep mine off on principle anyway Grin

worraliberty · 30/06/2011 09:02

'Principle anyway' Is that the Head Teacher? Grin

wordfactory · 30/06/2011 09:02

Both DS and DD's schools are completely unaffected. They're releived as they both have nice things planned for today as we're nearing the end of term.

If it were a normal day, looking down the barrel of double Latin forst thing...they'd be gutted Grin
