have been allowed to ban babies in first class?? 1st airline to do it and I bet it starts a trend. How is it ok to be sat next to a crying baby if you fly economy but not if you go first? I suppose they think people travelling 1st would be happy to dump the baby in economy with the nanny. Nice family friendly policy there......

They know their own market. Good for them. Fly somebody else if you don't like it.

YABU. People should be able to have the choice of whether they want to end up sat next to a baby on a long haul flight. If you don't like it and can afford to fly first class, choose a different airline.

Not everything has to be 'family friendly'. Children are not the centre of the universe.

If I flew 1st class it would be for a more comfortable and relaxing journey, so I wouldn't want babies around me.

I am with the airline with that one.

Firstly, there cannot be that many families with babies who can afford first class. Seconly, the airline has to make £ from highly profitable first class. Thirdly, if I were off on honeymoon or a swanky expensive holiday (which I would not go on with babies) I would not want to sit on a 13 hour flight with a crying/screaming baby, not to mention the enclosed poo smell from nappies. Fourthly, people pay for the peace, luxury and space and special treatment, all of which would be impossible with a baby.

Just because we have babies (and yes I have had babies) does not give us the right to be anywhere and everywhere with them at all times. There has to be mutual respect to those with and without babies. LIke oil and water, ther just don't mix.

And in the grand scheme of life it's not really going to affect too many people too badly is it? PLus economy on MA is actually quite good compared to some, so you would not exactly be slumming it either.

I flew Malaysia with my dd (who was a little one). Could not fault the attention we got and we where only in economy.

They are a business, they know their customers. They can do what they like.

Shame they don't do short haul to Europe - I'd be on 'em like a flash! I've had babies, I know they scream, I know other people don't like it. I always always removed mine from restaurants etc when they started and I just don't get why other people think theirs have a God given right to scream the place down and ruin everyone's day!

Bloody good idea - can we also have economy class without babies too, or maybe a baby section in plane where they can all howl and be sick together. had more than one 7+ hour flight made a misery by someone's screaming little darling.

That is making me think of the Evian babies for some reason and they freak me out. Yuck.

It just seems like discrimination to me though - and where does it end - sure its just 1 airline and its just first class now which probably affects about 1000 people but what if all airlines do it and do it across other classes? How will people travel with babies?

They're not all going to do it.It's a ridiculous scenario,really they aren't.

People will travel economy class with babies...they're never going to ban them from there because the majority of parents/families us it.

1st class tends to be full of childless travellers (not the big fat wedding kind!)

Therefore, as someone has already said...they know their customers.

I think it would be good to have baby / children areas on planes. When travelling with a baby I've hoped to be sitting near other babies so they can entertain each other. And so I know I won't be next to an anti-baby person.

Good for them. Have never been able to afford first class but when have been in Business I have noticed that most babies are in the back with the nanny anyway so I doubt it would make a huge difference.

If you pay $15K per ticket in 1st to you are prob a CEO or somesuch going direct to meetings and back. You need to sleep and work.

Its hardly discrimination. Babies can still go in Business Class and yell their heads off there.
