AIBU to refuse to serve ds1 friend a bacon roll with tomatoe sauce?

It is my humble opinion that some foods only go with certain sauces

So making bacon rolls for ds's friends (teenagers) I refused to serve a bacon roll with tomatoe sauce to one of them as it gives me the willies...

I can happily make and serve bacon rolls with brown sauce or even barbeque sauce, but tomatoe sauce is a major no no.

I have said the friend may enter the kitchen and put his tomatoe sauce on but I refuse to do it (mainly because the thought of it makes my skin crawl)

Is it reasonable to refuse a food request based soley on the fact the requested combination makes you be a little bit sick in your mouth at the thought of it?

I also turned down this friends request for a ham and tomatoe sauce sandwich last summer, saying he could have it with pickle, salad cream or mayo but no way was I putting tomatoe sauce on ham.

(he may think I'm nuts )

Bacon does not need any sauce, though a blt is acceptable.
My son uses ketchup on his but he is a teenager philistine and doesn't know any better.
Bacon with french toast and maple syrup is very delicious. Would you ever try that OP?

MamaChoo · 28/06/2011 19:28

Oh my god I'm desperate for a bacon roll now you cruel horrible people...

FlubbaBubba · 28/06/2011 19:28

My God woman, you are nuts. Tomato ketchup every time with a bacon buttie. Slather it on. Soak the buttie with it. Drown it with ketchup. All Yum Yum. But BBQ sauce, or brown sauce (yuk with everything) with ketchup is nuts.

Weirdo.

:o

What a pointless post.

Acceptableintheeighties · 28/06/2011 19:29

YANBU! I refuse to serve eggs and beans on the same plate as just the thought of the bean sauce touching the eggs makes me heave.

Dp can either cook/dish up or have one or the other!

JanMorrow · 28/06/2011 19:31

Okaaaaaaaay...

ilovesprouts · 28/06/2011 19:31

my dd dips carrots in tom sauce

creamola · 28/06/2011 19:43

ladybeagleeyes no ........bacon should not be near french toast , and the thought of either being served with maple syrup makes me want to hide in a cupboard.

although I do like my french toast with tomato sauce (which i know some folk would wretch at)

Confused you are def weird.

I would let children/grown ups put their own sauce on a bacon roll.

BsshBossh · 28/06/2011 20:05

You are nuts, OP Grin but if it makes you then tell the teenager and get him to put the ketchup on himself (when you're out of sight!). I'm sure s/he'll have a good laugh at your expense but at least you'll be fine Grin.

My friend made me a bacon sandwich once, she put, like, (incredulous tone) lettuce on it. I was totally weirded out.

Honeydragon · 28/06/2011 20:17

Yes Janmorrow Beyonces legs is a much more worthy and meaningful debate

Oblomov · 28/06/2011 20:19

YABU. Do you think you are normal ? Or do you admit to being some sort of control freak ? Have you had therapy for this? Do you have other areas of your life where you are a control freak, or is it just food combinations ?

Oblomov · 28/06/2011 20:20

ensure, BLT ?

SloganLogan · 28/06/2011 20:21

YABU. Bacon roll with tomato sauce sounds delicious and you're making me hungry!

LolaRennt · 28/06/2011 20:21

i like the cut of your jib, but that's cause you're probably a bit mad

LittleMissFlustered · 28/06/2011 20:28

I'm going to upset a few of you here. There is no ketchup in my house. At all.

Plenty of bacon and bread though.

:o

youarekidding · 28/06/2011 20:28

YANBU and YABU

A teenager can get there own sauce.
I wouldn't dictate what a sauce someone could have though.

I actually can't bare Tomato sauce myself - or the smell. DS is allergic anyway so we don't even have it in the house.

Salmotrutta · 28/06/2011 20:29

I wanna bacon roll now too.........

I take either tomato or brown sauce Shock on the said bacon butty.

............. but, my question is:

Has anyone tried the Heinz Tomato Ketchup and Balsamic Vinegar limited edition? Is it good? We have some lurking in our cupboard and I'm just not sure..............

nocake · 28/06/2011 20:30

It really depends how good the bacon is. If it was a really good dry cured bacon then it's perfectly acceptable to slap anyone who asks for any source. If it's that cheap stuff from the supermarket then tomato ketchup is essential.

LittleMissFlustered · 28/06/2011 20:39

Decent bacon, grilled until the edges are crunchy. Nommy.

Anyway. Cheese is good in a bacon butty:o

ensure · 28/06/2011 21:00

Oblamov, a blt is an entirely different proposition to a bacon butty. She put cheese on it too!

Oblomov · 28/06/2011 21:34

oh ?

mind you cheese and ham do go together. cheese and bacon, I can see. like in a croissant. a bit 'con-tin-en-tal' Wink

iamnotsuperwoman · 28/06/2011 21:48

Bacon and brie butties are nice with cranberry sauce or mango chutney.
:)

Oblomov · 28/06/2011 22:14
