I only ask the questions

Cleme :)

exoticfruits · 28/06/2011 17:08

I gave up teaching because I wanted a life! I wanted to finish work for the day and not be doing it until bedtime. I wanted more than one day at weekends and I wanted holiday to be holiday. Those teacher bashing should try it. Yes, there are 13weeks holiday, but not many people have a holiday where they spend 2 weeks doing planning and an entire week going in to get the classroom ready-during the holiday!

ilovesooty · 28/06/2011 17:09

Gabby says on her profile that she does clerical work BTW

I'd have thought you had to be halfway literate for that. Grin

exoticfruits · 28/06/2011 17:10

Anyone who thinks you don't need planning and organisation should try taking a lesson with 30DCs, without being prepared.

onagar · 28/06/2011 17:21

Teachers work hard all day every day throughout the year. The reason I know this is that you will often find them on MN complaining about it. :o

Actually a good rule of thumb is that they probably work about half way between how much people think they work and what they claim.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 28/06/2011 17:24

'Gabby' is a he... not a she. The verbal snot he fills these boards with (when the wordsearches get too dull) is legend. Trying to engage him in intelligent discussion is like explaining string theory to a goldfish - utterly pointless.

Inertia · 28/06/2011 18:43

Onagar- I suspect that many of us posting about the hours teachers work are no longer teachers. When I was working as a teacher there's no way I'd have had time to keep up with mumsnet.

TooManyBrownies · 28/06/2011 18:47

New ish to this. Why is Gabby such a pest? Does he not have any ( boy) friends to play with? Wink

Flisspaps · 28/06/2011 18:53

Capital punishment? That'd teach the bastards.

Fontsnob · 28/06/2011 19:01

Arf at capital punishment!

GabbyLoggon · 28/06/2011 19:38

capital punishment is the oldest school joke going. 161 posts suggests a lot of interest in 13 weeks scholl hols. the answer as the lady said is complex Most angry posters have been rumbled. telling porkies. telling a devious story about hols. Its difficult to be bjective when you are personally involved Up to your neck in a cracpot system Of part time work posing as full time. Like the Mps story teachers have a devious tale to telland most professions

Firstly I not moaning but stating facts. I also need to point out that there are teachers who get 13 weeks free a year. I try and cram as much as I can into term times .

This is long as I am working my hours out as I post!

On an average week I work about from 7am until 6pm in school, Monday to Friday. Monday to Thursday I will usually do another few hours in the evening. I will work about five hours at the weekend. So for 39 weeks a year I work about 75 hours a week.

Over the half term holidays I will go into school for one day between 9 and 3pm and usually do about another five hours. So that is over three half terms about 50 hours.

Over Christmas I do not go into school and will do about five hours prep. Over the Easter holiday tend to go in for 3 days between 9 and 3 and then about five hours. So about 23 hours. Summer holiday I will go in about four days between 9 and 3 and then about ten hours at home.

I have not included hours worked on school trips, reading to update subject knowledge etc.

So grand total is 3031.

If I were in a more "normal " job and worked 47 weeks a year that would be 65 hours a week. So even when you average it out to a normal job the hours a high.

GabbyLoggon · 28/06/2011 19:41

so should we agree teachers have about 3 times as much holiday as real workers I have never regarded going to work dressed up as work. Dont tell Gabby Logan that well know model

GabbyLoggon · 28/06/2011 19:43

I think it played out now. No one is coming up with anything knew

twinklypearls · 28/06/2011 19:53

I am sure j have got lost in those figures, but I am sure someone will correct me. It is a lot of hours anyway.

skybluepearl · 28/06/2011 19:54

Apart from teaching what do teachers do? Marking, sorting displays, report writing, exam marking, planning, practical lesson prep, meetings, parents evenings, after school and lunch time clubs, training, sorting and ordering equipment and reorganising classrooms, detentions, managing classroom assistants, parental contact etc.. It is a full on job that can be very stressful. All the teachers i know work a very very long week and part of their holidays. It also takes a weeks rest to recover after a long working term.

GabbyLoggon · 28/06/2011 19:56

i DITCHED THE WORKING GAME YEARS AGO....yOU ARE MAINLY SPRING CHICKENS....DUMMY SUCKERS TO ME.

skybluepearl · 28/06/2011 19:57

My teaching friends mostly work from 8am til 6pm then go home, have tea, put kids to bed and do another two hours. They then do another 5 or 6 hours at the weekend.

LostMyIdentityAlongTheWay · 28/06/2011 20:01

GabbyLoggon. Are you actually trying to be this fucking stupid or does it come naturally?

God. What a knobjockey thou art.

I'm a teacher. Get this. I DON'T work in an academy. Our school was rated 'Outstanding' in the new regime. I was rated an 'Outstanding' teacher. I bet you really hate me now!!! HAH!!

But I bet I'm not as glorious as you are. You radiant piece of humanity.

Now go away, find a grammar primer (sounds about right for your age), and fuck the fuck off.

TheFlyingOnion · 28/06/2011 20:04

I wish there was some way you could block posters on MN.

Gabby/Scousy is the most ill informed malicious numpty on the site.

What a prat....

eclipse · 28/06/2011 20:10

I was a teacher many years ago and have held a number of different professional posts since then. All jobs have had less holiday and much more pay and no job I've ever had has been harder/more tiring/more demanding than teaching. I was, I believe, an effective and successful teacher but could not claim to have spent my holidays working. Usually flu always struck within minutes of the end of term. I have never needed those holidays like I did when teaching. All respect to teachers. From experience, if the holidays alone were to be envied, I could always return to teaching. And the complainers could re-train.

And have never locked horns with GabbyLoggon but following this thread, I may need to here.

I'm a teacher. My contract says i get paid for 39 weeks a year. My wage is spread out over 12 months.
I love my job. What I don't like is people who think they can do better than me, think it is all a bed of roses but are too gutless to do it themselves because they know that it won't be at all like they preach.

TheFlyingOnion · 28/06/2011 20:15

Alright capsy, keep your football shirt on.... Hmm

LostMyIdentityAlongTheWay · 28/06/2011 20:15

Yup, I specialised in My Rude Talk as a PGCE subject, buttmuncher.

And I'm a woman. So who's fucking 'lippy' am I supposed to be using? I have plenty to say, just that I quite like an intelligent person with whom to discuss.

Your posting (irregular grammar, capitalization, spellings, lack of punctuation, need I continue?) does not really make for much of a discussion.

You are unable to make a point that is valid (just consider.... we ALL think you're wrong... possibility that the numbers are stacking up like this for a reason?)

Oh yes. And you're a cunt.

So. I rest my case and withdraw gracefully, allowing eclipse to move in with the wind-up key, should they wish....

(cunty cunty ass wipe.... )
