To want to buy a bag of mixed peppers without any green ones from the supermarket?

Why is it so difficult? Is there a green-pepper mafia in action?

The only mixed bags with no green ones are organic and expensive. The value-range mixed bags are almost always mainly green ones.

And two individual peppers cost more than a 3-pack.

Grrr.

But you need green ones for a decent veg chilli to counteract the sweetness, no?

jugglingwiththreeshoes · 27/06/2011 20:42

Mmm, Sounds great PerAr6ua, can I come over one night when you're rustling that up !

mumnotmachine · 27/06/2011 20:44

Why dont you just buy them loose?
You can have whatever colour you like then?

Or am I missing something?

PerAr6ua · 27/06/2011 20:45

Why red peppers are the ones to eat!: www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=7&ved=0CF0QFjAG&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.whfoods.com%2Fgenpage.php%3Ftname%3Dfoodspice%26dbid%3D50&rct=j&q=sweet%20red%20pepper&ei=HuwITu_EBJOwhAfBm8TnDQ&usg=AFQjCNED7dY9sxPiGE-RHBZWUSShP4s56g&cad=rja

I love those long sweet red peppers - more expensive but well worth it especially with steak and salivates chips.

So you're chancing it roystiff? Good luck to you.

Why can't I do neat little links?

DarftApeth · 27/06/2011 21:54

Ocado do a bag with a yellow and orange pepper. It might be Waitrose though rather than Ocado.

jugglingwiththreeshoes · 27/06/2011 22:13

bloody hell izzywhizzy - no wonder I've never mastered links ! Grin Hmm

MardyBra · 27/06/2011 23:42

I got a mixed pack of red and yellow from Ocado the other day.

MardyBra · 27/06/2011 23:43

Oh read the thread Mardy.

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 27/06/2011 23:52

I can only do copy link & paste efforts jugglingBlush

How come others manage to do nice tidy little links saying 'read this' etc? Envy

galletti · 27/06/2011 23:59

You young 'uns don't know how lucky you are. When I was growing up, green peppers were a luxury! Seriously. Or maybe that ws just up North. However, I do do anything I can now to avoid green peppers.

FreudianSlipper · 28/06/2011 00:21

while in asda the other day i found packets of red and yellow peppers none of them were manky and no green ones i got so excited i bought 2 packets, then could not fit them in the fridge.

trouble is there is only myself and ds, have had peppers with everything, my pepper quiche i cooked today was is delicious

waitrose often do packets of just red and yellow too but they are quite a bit more expensive

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 28/06/2011 00:30

There's something aesthetically appealing about a tray of green peppers stuffed with rice/pine nuts/herbs (and a little meat for non-vegetarians) followed by a tray of huge tomatoes also stuffed a la grecque emerging fragrant and hot from the oven, and they taste sublime too.

I've only used red and orange peppers in chilli con carne because I like the dish to look like it's fiery hot even if it lacks authentic Tex-Mex heat.
