To want to buy a bag of mixed peppers without any green ones from the supermarket?

Why is it so difficult? Is there a green-pepper mafia in action?

The only mixed bags with no green ones are organic and expensive. The value-range mixed bags are almost always mainly green ones.

And two individual peppers cost more than a 3-pack.

Grrr.

Oh no SecretNutella there is a pepper hierachy. I find orange ones the sweetest, then yellow then red then green.

PanicMode · 27/06/2011 19:19

YANBU - I also hate green peppers. I buy Ocado red peppers in pairs to avoid the mixed bag with green peppers in.

mrsravelstein · 27/06/2011 19:23

i LOVE green ones, send your spare ones to me, and get irritated with the fact that despite my tesco online order having a 'special instruction' of "please make sure the bag of mixed peppers has a green one in it", i nearly always get a bag with 2 yellows and a red. so go to the enfield tesco is all i can suggest...

Dozer · 27/06/2011 19:27

But we shouldn't have to pay a premium to avoid the green ones! Those occasional bags without them are like the holy grail.

Green-lovers, I've tried, but every recipe using them disappoints.

this reminds me of the thread with the mner who counted the amounts of green, red yellow peppers in value frozen bags, and check the percentages were right......there was always to many green ones!

drivemecrazy63 · 27/06/2011 19:39

i dont like the green ones either but wouldnt really be mixed without one green one red one orange would they i always buy singles

DontGoCurly · 27/06/2011 19:41

YANBU -I bloody hate green peppers. There is absolutely zero food value in them and they taste like nettles.

Another salad pet peeve of mine, why can't I buy a bag of green salad leaves with no poxy Lollo Rosso in it? Eh Supermarket salad overlords??

I don't want Lollo Rosso and I don't want red cabbage EVER in my bag of mixed leaves. STOP it!!

BikeRunSki · 27/06/2011 19:41

I hate red peppers.
The bags have all sorts in because they are mixed.
The peppers in the mixed bags are always thin and nasty. I get them individually, the are much nicer and you can choose which colour you want!

DontGoCurly · 27/06/2011 19:44

But does anyone anywhere ever EAT the LolloRosso I ask y

DontGoCurly · 27/06/2011 19:44

you!

AitchTwoOh · 27/06/2011 19:44

marks and sparks do three peppers, no green, always nice, for £1.65. this is the same as most places charge for one orange, one red and a vile green. i don't like the bags, they are too teeny and thin.

Dozer · 27/06/2011 19:46

Mixed could be red, yellow and orange, or just two colours but three peppers.

Mixed need not and should not mean green.

orange peppers in the salad yum i hate the bits of stringy beetroot they bung in

BMW6 · 27/06/2011 19:46

I have found that green ones turn red after a couple of weeks ... don't know if that would progress on to yellow

LtEveDallas · 27/06/2011 19:48

Cannot abide green peppers. They make me and DSD gag. DH moans about waste because I just chuck stinky greeny, but it's still cheaper to buy the 3 pack mix than two seperate red or yellow.

(I thought JTP was back too)

MissBetsyTrotwood · 27/06/2011 19:50

ASDA do a value bag of peppers with no green ones.

SultanaofTring · 27/06/2011 19:52

Has JTP gone for good? The last thing I heard was he got married and then - nothing. Do you think giving up mumsnet was part of his prenup?

Fifichef · 27/06/2011 19:52

Why do they bother to grow green ones - someone told me that they are the ones that aren't ripe. The red and yellow ones are much tastier and sweeter. I say chuck the green ones away!! If it's true that the green ones are underripe then the other colours are more expensive because they take longer to grow.

SecretNutellaFix · 27/06/2011 19:53

In my eyes- all peppers are equal.

Bloody lovely! Especially in fajitas and salads.

COCKadoodledooo · 27/06/2011 19:55

Green peppers go red if you forget they're in the veg rack

Groovee · 27/06/2011 19:57

I don't do green ones either, sometimes morrisons do me a favour and have no green ones.

Dozer · 27/06/2011 20:02

We should all return the nasty green ones to the supermarket, or open the mixed bags mid-shop, but not the pepper aisle (say toothpaste or freezer section) remove the greenies, placing them artistically somewhere, and then pay for the three-becomes-two packs. The supermarkets would then have unsightly piles of green peppers to dispose of.

When Jasonthunderpants get found out he gets banned

My last ban was under the name mikeoxstiff about the shower jell that promotes homosexuality (the instructions on the back said squeeze onto a puff and work into a lather)

When this gets found out roybosh will be banned as well

Fifis25StottieCakes · 27/06/2011 20:08

I like the green ones but the dd's dont. Usually the fruit shops do them much cheaper than the supermarkets and you can pick your own.

jugglingwiththreeshoes · 27/06/2011 20:18

You're in good company ...I think one of the TV chefs agrees with you OP.
Seem to remember Nigella saying she couldn't abide the green ones (which def. have a very different, less sweet and more bitter, flavour)
... But could be wrong - quickly covers arse as they do on all the best chat shows Grin
