YANBU, a phone call or email to cancel would only taker a minute. I assume you have cleared your schedule to interview today?

Elsaz · 27/06/2011 15:08

YANBU but IME it usually happens. In my former life, when I was involved in recruitments, we would always invite 5 candidates, but expect 1 not to show.

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 27/06/2011 15:10

I think I would look at where the post was being advertised as it's areasonable salary, (unless it's not particicularly competitive for the field). If it's the job centre then tbh I'm not surprised.

"Job over 20k too!"

Well that means nothing because it's all relative. Is the market rate for the job £60k? Does your company have a bad reputation? Have you treated some of the candidates poorly wrt interview arrangements? Wink

YABU to ask us to comment on so little information.

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow · 27/06/2011 16:00

hmmmm, fgaaagh is right - it depends on the job.

If you were advertising for a dinner lady for £20k I would have expected it to be very popular Wink - on the other hand - if the job was for a brain surgeon working 60 hours a week, probably not gonna get a lot of candidates.

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow · 27/06/2011 16:01

Maybe the one person who did show up for the job waited outside and murdered all the other candidates to be sure of getting the job Grin

Mandy2003 · 27/06/2011 16:05

Maybe the one person who showed up put a notice on the door/at the bottom of the stairs/on the lift: INTERVIEWS CANCELLED GrinGrin

Lol prince!!

Job is right salary. Middle of road really. No bad rep. One of the top in it's field. And they all confirmed they were coming!! I think it's because they are all lazy bastards.

And we can mumsnet in work so that is worth a 2k perk isn't it???

OP posts:
readywithwellies · 27/06/2011 16:12

Mandy now that would have explained it but no, the chain smoking receptionist would have noticed it on the door!!

agedknees · 27/06/2011 16:13

YANBU. It is rude not to phone to cancel an interview/appointment.

SootySweepandSue · 27/06/2011 16:16

See this is just like the other thread where the poster was upset about her SiL not turning up to her children's party.

Nobody bothers anymore...even for job interviews. Must be a lot of teething going on.

Avantia · 27/06/2011 16:29

If they had confirmed they were coming then YANBU - really rude of them - I would phone them tomorrow at 9am - get the lazy buggers out of bed and 'get some feedback' from them i.e why the bloody hell couldn't you be bothered to turn up !

You could understand the odd one not turn u - emergency etc /.

Anyway the one that did turn up - did you offer them the job ?

readywithwellies · 27/06/2011 16:30

No!!!! Got to do it all again Angry

OP posts:
Avantia · 27/06/2011 16:39

Even more reason to NBU !

I'd still phone them up ! Tell them the job is till open and just when they think they have anotherr chance tell them they can't apply BECAUSE THEY'RE LAZY FEKKERS !

sims2fan · 27/06/2011 17:30

Wow, wish that happened when I go for jobs. I always attend interviews if I get them, but rarely seem to get the job. Perhaps if I were the only candidate I'd stand a better chance!

Pandemoniaa · 27/06/2011 17:42

I don't do any recruiting nowadays but dp regularly interviews people and even after years and years of doing so, he's still amazed at the number of people who don't bother to turn up (despite confirming that they will) or if they do, behave with quite amazing inappropriateness. Most recent was DP: "Tell me about your present job." Interviewee: "I've left that now. They were all cunts and fuckwits".

readywithwellies · 27/06/2011 17:46

The worst I have experienced is "no I don't really have any experience of that" in a steady drone to every question!!!!!!!

OP posts:
HidinginaHardHat · 27/06/2011 17:48

Can I come for teh interview please? I need a new job! (Impending redundancy!)

DP said similar recently too btw, he was interviewing 8 people for a managment job and only 1 turned up, only 2 of the no shows contacted the firm to notify them they were going to be absent.

DP was livid as it's only been 3 months since he was on the unemployment line and having been out of work for 6 months couldn't believe how feckless these people can be.

SlackSally · 27/06/2011 17:51

Obviously that's out of order, but when the shoe's on the other foot, plenty of organisations think nothing of not even replying to an application.

readywithwellies · 27/06/2011 17:54

Hiding - but will you turn up!?! Sell yourself to me!

OP posts:
HidinginaHardHat · 27/06/2011 17:55

Yes I will turn up..i will turn up with a big smile on my face and a proper "give me a job i am the best employee you'll ever have" attitude :o

(sold yet? :o)

ErinGoBraLess · 27/06/2011 18:04

SlackSally I completely agree with you. Some companies don't acknowledge potential candidates at all. As most companies are online a quick "Thanks - but No Thanks" email would let me know that someone has at least read my name.
