to think I should be able to buy a spiderman or batman dress for a girl

poor dd2 is nearly 4 and doesn't like being 'pretty', she wants to be cool Hmm

She dresses herself and wears batman or spiderman tops out of preference but she really wants a dress or a skirt with them on, which of course I can't find.

Anyone got any links?

And seriously, AIBU to think they could make girls clothes with 'boy' logos that aren't slutty dress up outfits or have had to be handmade.

that hello kitty is dd1's dress, which started the whole thing off. She wants a dress like that for the park or the beach, but 'cooler'Grin

I don't think it's shit as such. It's only the same reason there are no skirts in the boy department.

I hate pink though. DD is my nemesis.

californiaburrito · 25/06/2011 14:19

What about Etsy? There are a lot of people who do superhero costumes on there and might be able to do you a dress. Although. it's probably not the cheapest option.

And, no YANBU. I spend a lot of time looking to dinosaur and shark clothes for my DD.

olibeansmummy · 25/06/2011 14:22

I understand where you're coming from. I have a toddler ds who loves Dora, but all Dora stuff is pink and girly ( although he does wear pink, but pink boys clothes!) likewise peppa is only on girls stuff and George on boys stuff. It's not really fair is it?

KoolAidKid · 25/06/2011 14:23

The Very website has loads of female superhero costumes

here

MigratingCoconuts · 25/06/2011 14:23

I have a similar problem in that my DD (6) loves dinosaurs and rptiles. She would love Dino pants but you can't get girl ones.

I buy her boy t-shirts but luckily she has never been bothered by this (she is currently sitting in her dinsoaur costume waiting for her birthday party to start)

californiaburrito · 25/06/2011 14:23

Oops, sorry, just saw your links for the kind of dresses she'd like. I am so slow today.

I think your best bet would be to buy a large character shirt and take it to a dressmaker to convert. I used to do dressmaking and I could whip up the second one from a t shirt and some contrasting jersey fabric no problem so it should be too hard to find someone who could.

PregolaLola · 25/06/2011 14:24

oh dont be stupid, everyone likes there kids to look nice im not saying dont let her play in the mud or make sure all the buttons are done up, im saying I cant imagine seeing one that would look nice, just like i said im happy to be proven wrong and shown something that looks good.

why oh why does everyone feel like they just have to take offence, ridiculous!

microfight · 25/06/2011 14:26

Oh I see!

giyadas · 25/06/2011 14:29

I think transfers are a good idea. Have just had a look on ebay and there's loads to choose from. DD is a big comic fan so will get a few simple bits of clothing and customise them for her. She's another one who gets annoyed with all the comic and star wars things being in the boys department.

Ilythia · 25/06/2011 14:48

prego, chill, I'm just saying how can a child wearing clothes not look nice just because of a logo, I don't get it.

transfers are the way I think, until I convince my sister to make her a dress. Christ only know what she is going to wear for the weddings we have this summer though...

What about something like this? These are pretty cool for girls

www.stardustkids.co.uk/acatalog/Girls_Short_Sleeve_Dresses.html

AurraSing · 25/06/2011 15:02

this doesn't look too difficult to make. I've seen lots of superhero fabric about if you wanted to give it a go.

I think the problem is the lack of superhero girls. Once someone remakes wonder woman the shops will be full of wonder woman dresses,t-shirts, pencil cases ...

blueemerald · 25/06/2011 15:03

I would use spiderman pillowcases or sheets to make a skirt or dress. Something like this but longer...

Or this but spiderman looks a little weird and it may be too big.

Have you not googled fancy dress?

Have a look at some of these and see if any are suitable:

Supergirl

Batgirl

Robin Hood

Lots of pirates

I'm sure there would be one or two outfits your DD would like. Must admit I didn't look very hard - just looked at a site that I've shopped at before, there's probably more out there if you want to dig further.

I know it's not what you're after but just came across these

piprabbit · 25/06/2011 15:07

Sorry - just got to the bit in the thread where you say you want ordinary clothes, for girls but with a superhero vibe.

Ilythia · 25/06/2011 15:08

PPPop, you are my hero, and my dd2 loves you. this one and this one are perfect! Just what we wanted!

OP posts:
Ilythia · 25/06/2011 15:08

I tried everywhere to find a prince costume for my ds royal wedding party and couldn't find a single one.

So i know how you feel op, its frustrating and sad. All those princesses and no room for a prince. :(

MrsKwazii · 25/06/2011 15:14

YADNBU, my DD1 also loves Spiderman, Batman, Star Wars, Thomas an Doctor Who as well as Peppa Pig. She has lots of t-shirts, socks and pjs from the 'boys' section. I've not seen any dresses or skirts like you're after, so suppose that transfers really are the only way forward.

Cartoons are watched by both boys and girls, so you'd think there be all sorts of clothes available. I hate this gender divide on clothes and toys that shops and people seem to want to perpetuate.

That zebra dress you linked to would look excellent with a Batman logo on it btw Ilythia

piprabbit · 25/06/2011 15:16

I love the Pixel Che dresses... might have to get DD the Resist, Revolt and Rebel one Grin.
