to ask who the fuck are the moderators on here and suggest that unless there was a very good reason to delete the HSBC thread - and I would like a very good reason - then this site is over-moderated

Hi there,

We deleted the thread as the title was, in our opinion, beyond the pale.

LeQueen please do feel free to repost your OP but please be mindful of our Talk guidelines

Hi Activate

Introducing your moderators at MNHQ (in no particular order)...

Our policy, in general, is to let the conversation flow but we do have a few rules and guidelines. We really don't like deleting things as a rule but your thread title and OP about HSBC staff was reported as falling into the "beyond the pale" category and we agreed that it was a bit much. Sorry to those who disagree. It's always a judgement call but hopefully you'll have a clearer idea next time Wink.

Generally we don't watch every thread but rely on members to report things they think are not on, many thanks as ever for you vigilance.

Night, peace and love to all.

@Gooseberrybushes

It wasn't activate's thread title but there we are

You're quite right. My mistake. Apologies.

JustineMumsnet · 25/06/2011 00:11

@LeQueen

I can't be arsed to scroll back, to find out how we got here...but it's soooooo nice to talk history with someone Smile

We should have a History Thread...

I could contribute at least four reasons why King John angered the Barons circa 1200 if that's helpful?

JustineMumsnet · 25/06/2011 00:12

@LeQueen

Justine it was my thread title...but as you can see, I have somewhat moved on, and we're now deep in the 15th century Smile

I don't care about the thread anymore, and it was me who started it Smile

Good. Me neither Smile.

@LeQueen

Oh nooooooo, I was actually thinking about going to bed, and Justine has just seduced me back...

Go on then, give us your reasonings...[gets comfy, puts kettle on...]

Oh bugger.

OK

  1. He frequently sided against them in legal judgements
  2. He levied unfair taxes eg Scutage - a tax if they refused to raise armies for him
  3. He made peace with Phillip II in France (thereby losing their lands in France)
  4. He bumped off his elder brother's son (whose name I can't recall but who had better claim to throne) and wife (Isabelle?)

JustineMumsnet · 25/06/2011 00:25

@LeQueen

I agree with your first 3 Justine...but, think you're off the mark with No. 4?

John murdered his nephew Arthur, Count of Brittany, is that who you mean? Richard named Arthur his heir before he died, but Arthur was just a teenager, so the barons sided with John's claim, aided and abetted by William De Broase and William Marshall backing John, too.

Yes I think it was Arthur (elder brother's son is a nephew, yes?) - and possibly it was the French Barons who were cross with him on that one (or even Phillip II?)

Hmm, sure there is a fourth reason though... I shall sleep on it.

JustineMumsnet · 25/06/2011 00:27

@ChaosTrulyReigns

Justine, when do woke up this morning did you ever envisage.....................................

Grin

I didn't Grin.

JustineMumsnet · 25/06/2011 00:29

@LeQueen

Jsutine well the French barons hated John for marrying Isabelle de Angloueme, and swiping her from under the nose of Hugh de Lusignan, thereby causing such strife in France.

Ironic, that after John died, Isabella married Hugh's son, and had umpteen children with him Smile

So many Isabelles/Isabellas - they could have done with the baby name finder...
