Year 6 Prom - WTF?

Yes it is nice to celebrate the end of Junior School. Apart from the Yr 6 Residential trip and the Yr 6 surprise outing on the last day and the Leavers' Assembly why mark the occasion with a glorified School-Disco comprising a shit-load of extra expense at the exact same time as you are buying a completely new school uniform for Secondary for your child?

Well done those parents who suggested that it would be a fantastic idea and who will be spending £30 on a FUCKING TIARA for their little Princess for this one evening and will then spend shite-all on decent non-flimsy uniform for their children if the children are to be clad in uniform at all thus making my job harder Hmm

Damn the Yr 6 Prom, damn it all to Hell. And no I am not being unreasonable!

I do wish people would use puctuation! I get all out of breath trying to read posts without!

LittleMissFlustered · 21/06/2011 18:43

I detest proms. Party and seaside based. My kids will not be going if their school ever decides to introduce them. I am not wasting good money on a parental pissing contest.

pointydog · 21/06/2011 18:54

I hate proms. They should never be allowed.

Ahh water under the bridge^

And just what are you insinuating with that comment? Grin I'm not a troll, I know that SGM for example, IS CANADIAN.

Thanks though Smile

Even the Blairs think that Year Six proms are too expensive!

prom:

  • more of a ball gown type dress
  • daft extras like tiaras, corsages
  • transport in a limo with loads of screaming mates
  • might have terrible add-ons like awards for best couple
ZXEightyMum · 21/06/2011 19:42

Fuck knows, I keep trying to explain to DD that it is a glorified school disco the like of which she has attended three times a year for the last two years.

She has a nice dress and can have a tiara from Claires if she wants but no fecking hair or nails or limos for Christ's sake.

IME this comes under the banner of things that the school "thought would be nice".

For that read things that are a total PITA for parents

slipperandpjsmum · 21/06/2011 19:58

Alot of shops where I live let you pay a weekly amount to spread the cost of high school uniforms so its not such a large amount to pay all at once.

ZXEightyMum · 21/06/2011 20:19

I've saved £100 for two blazers, two ties, two summer polo shirts, two phys ed shirts and erm, that's all I get for that. I still have to buy trousers, shirts, shoes, trainers, shorts, black and white socks.

Why the fucketty fuck did the parents want this when we live in an area of extreme socio-economic deprivation? Nobody EVER contributes towards school trips so they don't happen. Nobody turns up to day-time events so the school doesn't bother any more but oh, a PROM, and people go all wanky and Big Gypsy Wedding Angry

DD's mate is having a dress bought for £200 with alterations costing £100 but her mother is talking about not bothering to get the correct school uniform as that doesn't matter apparently.

I don't want my DD to be taken the piss out of during her very first week at Senior School because she is dressed appropriately Sad

ZXEightyMum · 21/06/2011 21:02

Grin at Chavvy Prom.

Thank you maras2 for the Peace Prize. It was only possible because of the gracious responses of my fellow antagonists and their mature and forgiving natures. I salute them.

Can this be a regular feature?

drivemecrazy63 thank you very much for your good wishes and understanding, much appreciated. Perhaps I will see you on the SN board Smile

One of the parents suggested a leavers disco, but as it is a small school we thought a disco for 21 children wouldn't be a good idea. We are taking the children to Frankie and Benny's for a meal instead.

ZXEightyMum · 21/06/2011 21:15

I like the idea of a disco. When I was at Junior School they were great craic, there was coke AND lemonade AND you could buy cola bottles for 1 pence each.

You'd wear your "best" outfit which certainly didn't cost between £50-£100 or whatever the equivalent price was and have a great time dancing to

for example.
