...and always have been?

YAB a bit U. They're not that bad. Although Gary Barlow has gone seriously down in my estimation since finding he supports Twunty Cameron. They also shouldn't allow Mark Owen to sing. Ever. He sounds like a flump. The prize for the crappiest band ever in my book goes to Status Quo.

poppygolucky · 17/06/2011 17:49

I like being pompous about music. You can't possibly put it down to taste, surely? Objectively there are musicians who are talented and there are boybands who are fairly competent bit put on great shows. Fine, whatever you enjoy. But to suggest they are equal is like comparing Sophie Kinsella to Tolstoy. The arts are not solely subjective. Some stuff is better than other stuff. End of.

Spagbolagain · 17/06/2011 17:52

YANBU to think what you like about TT but anybody attempting to express snobby opinions about them (or the people who go to see them) is BVVVU. It is pop music FFS, they never pretend to be anything different. They sing well live, they write their own stuff, they put on a fantastic show, and they create a really good atmosphere.

I am classically trained in several instruments, have taught and played at a high level. I go to a lot of concerts, all sorts of genres, and I know a fair bit about music. Doesn't mean I can only appreciate or see the value in certain types. I went to TT last week and thought it was brilliant. Musical snobbery does my head in, enjoy what you want but don't slag it off to try and make yourself sound more discerning, people can appreciate all sorts.

AmyStake · 17/06/2011 17:53

I don't hate them, I don't love them either.

BUT I wish Robbie Williams would disappear back up his own arse. I don't understand why they agreed to have him back in Take That, they don't need him and I don't think he brings much to the group.

I secretly enjoy their song though Blush

RedHotPokers · 17/06/2011 17:54

I quite indifferent to them tbh, but it really annoys me that everyone goes on about them all the time.

I have had to listen to pointless Take That concert crap all week in work. Plenty of
'OMG they were SO brilliant!'
'Did you see it when....'
'Oh I loved it when they did x song'
'Howard/Jason/Mark {delete as appropriate} were SO gorgeous.'

Sigh!

AmyStake · 17/06/2011 17:55

Oh and Jason Orange - does he actually sing solos or anything? I've never heard him sing on his own.

RedGreenBlue · 17/06/2011 17:59

Yanbu to think it (i agree), but let's be honest, you won't get universal support here (well, unless they're all still in police cells for being drunk and disorderly).

mumnotmachine · 17/06/2011 17:59

Yep its all Ive heard this week too RedHotPokers- fed up of the "did you see"
....and I was there!!

thebeansmum · 17/06/2011 18:05

Would draw curtains if they were playing in my back garden.

LineRunner · 17/06/2011 18:13

Agree, MrsMuddle, what the flying feck happened to Status Quo? From the mad rythmic joy of "Paper Plane" and "Down Down" to the utter banal shit that is "Margarita Time".... Not nice, not nice at all.

Oooh, I feel all violated even thinking about it.

happyscouse · 17/06/2011 18:13

Sorry poppy but I do think you're a music snob.If you want objectivity check out the reviews of both there last album and there tour great reviews across the board from people who like 'proper' music like the guardian,Q and NME.And for the rest of you god forbid that people in work go and have a great night out and then talk about it the next day!

poppygolucky · 17/06/2011 18:26

I am a music snob; I make no apology for it! But as I said, I'm sure they're very entertaining and put on a good show. Patronising enough for you?

NoobyNoob · 17/06/2011 18:30

YABU.

I'm going to see them in a few weeks. I've wanted to see them since I was 7 - I'm now 26.

So, to you, they're a big pile of shite with bells on. But for some, they mean something.

Zukiecat How can you hate The Beatles?

3boys5pets · 17/06/2011 18:33

Nooby - you will not be disappointed. I have seen Madonna, Michael Jackson, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Coldplay, George Michael & Robbie (solo) in concert - and Take That blew the lot of them out of the water :)

happyscouse · 17/06/2011 18:34

Come on then Poppy educate us.Who should we be listening to going to see IYO?

ddubsgirl · 17/06/2011 18:35

in a nkotb fan so hate tt lol

NoobyNoob · 17/06/2011 18:35

3boys I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to it! I feel like a little girl all over again!

I've seen the reviews and some snippets of the show and it looks fantastic!

ddubsgirl · 17/06/2011 18:37

in??? im

Bottleofbeer · 17/06/2011 18:39

I bloody love them and have paid shit loads on more than one occassion to see them. Having said that I bloody love Pink Floyd too.

NoobyNoob - you'll love it, have a great time :)

poppygolucky · 17/06/2011 18:50

See who you like! But just don't try to suggest all music is subjective, cos it isn't. Even my mates who went to see TT admit they aren't going for the songs or musicianship. Anyway some people want different things out of music. Some people go to gigs weekly and obsess about music; some go and see TT. Some people watch tv for TOWIE; some watch The Wire. And some even watch both, but know the difference. Oh who cares? I'm boring myself now!

FreudianSlipper · 17/06/2011 18:56

mark gives me the creeps he is like a little garden gnome

i like could it be magic but they didn't write that and shine the rest is pretty crap, especially the big production songs

LineRunner · 17/06/2011 19:00

Odd, innit, Freud, Could It Be Magic is their best single and yet it's a cover a frickin Barry Manilow song. Shine's nice. So's Patience.

Never understood why in Babe the bloke (little Marky Owen) has been away wandering the Russian Steppes but sings, "Babe, where have you been."

Take That have infiltrated my head. Like cultural shampoo.

RedHotPokers · 17/06/2011 19:10

Just switched on BBC1 and they're interviewing TT fans outside the Millenium Stadium. FFS.

baguettecut · 17/06/2011 19:16

Music for middle aged sheep.
