To judge those who shop in Boden?

Anyone who pays £15 for 1 normal simple t-shirt for a sproglet must be mad, surely!?

AIBU to think people who shop in Boden are mugs?

OP posts:
hmc · 16/06/2011 23:26

I buy Mini boden as I quite appreciate the look for the dc - no Lolita-esque wannabee grown up styles..... I don't buy Boden for myself as it's a bit conservative for adults. Prefer www.spunky.co.uk/ I don't consider the price for the children - frankly, I don't have to [shrugs] - sorry (not)!

Sarraburd · 16/06/2011 23:32

PFB DD was dressed head to toe in Boden (I was working and guilty. And had complex about being always dressed in handmidowns I hated as a child).

DS1 and DS2 are both in eBay and handmidowns...ifanything new now it's
H&M. I agree you can't beat Boden for lastibility and do look for it on eBay.

KoolAidKid · 16/06/2011 23:47

YA sooooooooo NBU. Boden clothes are v dull.

TheMitfordsMaid · 17/06/2011 00:04

My 2 year old was today wearing Boden trousers as shorts. They are aged 3-6 months and still fit his skinny waist. They have been washed and worn countless times and they look as new. Most of his Boden stuff is handed down from his big brother but they continue to look great.

I never buy anything from Boden and full price. Does anybody?

sunnydelight · 17/06/2011 02:42

I would certainly never pay full price, but because the seasons are reversed here I can do really well if I catch the sales. I spent about 100 pounds one year and got a whole load of lovely Summer things for DD in our Spring. She has had cropped trousers that turned into shorts a few years on, dresses that made lovely tunics over leggings etc. as things wash and wear really well. There isn't a great variety of clothes here so people always admire the Boden stuff.

5DollarShake · 17/06/2011 03:34

There are way more expensive shops than Boden out there for kids - Boden is positively recessionary compared with some of them.

£15 isn't very much money for a t-shirt that will last for ages and be passed down to other kids. DS had one pair of Boden trousers and that's it; DD has nothing from there so it's not even like I shop there.

You just sound like you're a bit jealous, OP.

iscream · 17/06/2011 04:05

Why does it matter, if it is not your money, what other people choose to buy?
I buy what I like, what other people think does not enter into the equation, unless it is a gift for them.
What's wrong with Boden anyways? I just went to their web site and checked out the kids stuff, and I thought it was cute.

ExpatMummyInOz · 17/06/2011 04:08

I love Boden gear. I also love mashed potato and Rolf Harris, but don't think too badly of me.

Sadly for me, I live in the arse-end of beyond (more commonly known as Australia) when it comes to quality, affordable clothing for kids. I buy Boden because you get nothing even close to it here, and I like the fact that my kids stick out like colorful sore thumbs.

sausagesandmarmelade · 17/06/2011 07:11

Couldn't care less where people buy their kids clothes...why should it bother you?

If people can afford to spend 15 quid on a t shirt then why shouldn't they?

You can spend a lot more than that....

Up to them I say

Astrophe · 17/06/2011 07:19

sunnydelight - I'm looking forward to stocking up for spring/summer in the sale too - should be in July I think :) Our Boden stuff is always admired here too!

With (almost) 4 kids, we want to be able to pass stuff on, and pretty much the only stuff that makes it through is Boden or (even better) Polarn O Pyret.

hopefulgum · 17/06/2011 07:32

Me too, Expat (not an expat, but live downunder). I love the stuff for my kids. It's great quality, I get it on sale, and it's quite interesting and different compared to Australian stuff, which is quite dull. For a nice T-shirt in a nice Australian Label you'd be spending more like 20 -25 pounds.

Bucharest · 17/06/2011 07:37

And of course,Boden ebays for almost the same price that you paid in the first place (Boden-ebayers, try German ebay, they seem to go batshit for Boden and I always get virtually back what I paid in the first place)

I either love Boden or hate it. Same as everywhere else really. Dd has lots of stuff to knock around in from George. Few bits and bobs from Next.

I think the sale will start next Thursday, late on btw. (checked my receipts from last year!)

Riveninside · 17/06/2011 07:40

Who cares. If they are wealthy and want to then its up to them. To be honest i woukdnr recognise Boden unless a kabel was hanging out. Clothes are clothes

TheCountessOlenska · 17/06/2011 07:41

I like the look of miniboden but i haven't felt the need to order anything yet as have found cheaper but similar looking things for DD by looking carefully in boots, m&s, gap even asda, tesco and next if you sift through the pink and "daddy's princess" stuff.

For adults - not my style, I don't want to look like a middle aged, middle class, school run mummy quite yet. It's TopShop/ H&M / Zara for me. I would rather die than buy a "jolly spotty skirt" !!

diabolo · 17/06/2011 07:41

I buy stuff sometimes, mostly in sales and mostly for my DS.

The clothes I buy for him last for at least 2 years, which actually is pretty good value for money when you have an 11 year old.

We couldn't give a shit about "trendy" either, (DS is not one of the sheep in Jack Wills at school), so no worries on that front.

DoingTheBestICan · 17/06/2011 07:47

I wear Boden,my ds wears Boden, its my money so i figure i can spend it on what i like.

Judge away op,i really dont give a teeny tiny rats arse what you think, when you start paying for my clothes then you an judge me until then jog on.

Catslikehats · 17/06/2011 07:49

I like the childrens clothes: bright cheerful wears well, but the adult stuff just depresses the hell out of me. Unimaginative in the extreme.

It's dressing by numbers and any grown woman who wears a "cute flippy skirt with ditsy daisy pattern" worn by a model whose favourite things in life are "strawberry milkshakes with a side of jellybeans" needs to get a grip, or at least out to a decent store.

And I don't understand the reverence it is afforded on this site: it is catolgue shopping people.

bamboobutton · 17/06/2011 07:52

i buy boden for the kids, as others have said it is very good quality and lasts ages.

stuff i bought for ds is now being worn by dd and the stuff dd has grown out of is being saved for my sisters baby.

don't worry about the cost as buy stuff on a cost per wear basis.

unless you buy the awful hotch potch print stuff who will even know it's boden?

Bananamash · 17/06/2011 07:56

I love boden for my boys. I don't want them dressed as mini teenagers in dark miserable colours.

I can afford it and i enjoy having them look like children should (imo) in bright funky colours.

I also like buying bits and pieces from john lewis' children's wear dept for the same reason.

As stated above, what other people spend their money on is their own business and sorry, you do sound jealous OP.....

JamieAgain · 17/06/2011 08:10

their boys T shirts are really good quality, IME, and whilst I don't shop there much, the things I have bought have lasted 2 boys and then beyond to friends, so cost-per-wear is brilliant

JamieAgain · 17/06/2011 08:11

Realise I have just repeated bamboobutton

JamieAgain · 17/06/2011 08:13

hmc - thanks for that link. Those are just the sort of designs my DSs love

Northernlurker · 17/06/2011 08:18

My dcs have a lot of Boden. Most of this I have bought on ebay as 'used' and it arives looking like new.
I also have quite a few tops and some winter dresses. I get a lot of compliments on this stuff.

OP - yabu and jealous.

CareyHunt · 17/06/2011 08:18

I like Boden kids clothes. I like SOME Boden adults clothes. ( To be fair, the men's clothes are a bit shite, and look like what David Cameron would wear on holiday.)

Not only that, my kids Boden clothes aren't their 'best clothes', they are their everyday stuff, because they are soft and comfy and hard wearing.

However, the other day I saw a woman in Ikea with the same number of children as me, with similar pretentious old fashioned names, all dressed in similar Boden clothes, and I did briefly think 'how the fuck did I become THAT?!', then I eased my pain by buying some tea-light holders, a lovely throw, and a wooden salad bowl. Grin

LoveInAColdClimate · 17/06/2011 08:23

YABU. I wear Boden, DH wears Boden, and no doubt our children will wear Boden once we succeed in acquiring some. Judging someone on where they buy their clothes seems to be a singularly pointless exercise.
