To think naming a new baby Gypsy will give her a life long affliction.

Having been saddled with an unusal Christian name myself I must ask this question.

Gypsy- reminds me of the lovely dreamy Fleetwood Mac song!

I am all for choosing nice sounding names i.e. not bothering about things like meanings or funny initials. It won't prove to be some sort of self fulfilling forever tainting prophesy!

I remember a proud grandad telling me about his new grandson. They'd called him Horatio.

He would now about 23ish and I do wonder if he likes his name, or whether he insists on something else, like Harry or something.

Worst name ever, I know a boy called Jessie. Not Jesse, Jessie. His father was telling me that he is being bullied and he wanted him to learn karate - I don't think that will solve the problem.

Will she have Rose and Lee as her second and third christian names?

Personally, I don't consider that Gypsy is an appropriate name for a girl or boy child but it is suitable for animals/pets.

I'd struggle with naming a pet Apple or Hero let alone lumbering a child with either of those names.

LoveInAColdClimate · 16/06/2011 22:57

Oh god, is Horatio awful? That is our (serious) name for a boy. Are we being cruel?

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 16/06/2011 23:10

I quite like the name Horatio but I doubt that any child is likely to thank you for it, Love. Maybe as a second name?

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 16/06/2011 23:14

if someone called their son Horatio i would just assume they were CSI Miami fans in homage to the mighty David Caruso of the mobile sunglasses and quiet death threats.

Hatesponge · 16/06/2011 23:21

I quite like Gypsy.

Mind you on the basis that some of the names on my baby names shortlist were Reine (in fairness it's a family name!) and Avalon (girl) and Buster and Hector (boy) I clearly have no taste Grin

LoveInAColdClimate · 16/06/2011 23:23

Hmmm. Ok, maybe Horatio as a middle name, then. This is assuming I ever get pregnant so our imaginary child is quite safe for now. Thanks, all.

WelliesinJune · 16/06/2011 23:30

Chavtastic.

redpanda13 · 17/06/2011 01:19

I worked alongside a girl named Gypsy in 1991.I remember the year as I started university then. She must be nearly 40 now. Maybe she will come along and post from her perspective?

DS has Horatio as a middle name. As in Nelson, not CSI. I couldn't get away with it for a first name as DH is in the French Navy and would probably have been branded a traitor.
