Who can not even make a speech? Should she be able to make a speech being married with Prince William?

OP posts:
MrsKravitz · 15/06/2011 22:01

She has been criticised in foreign press for wearing sweat shop labour fashion tbh

sunshineandbooks · 15/06/2011 22:03

I think, the British media being what it is (mostly shallow and misogynistic), that she will pretty soon find she is damned whatever she does.

If she says nothing she will be accused of just being a pretty accessory with no brain of her own.

If she starts making her own speeches she will be accused of speaking out of turn and forgetting that she only married into royalty etc etc

chicletteeth · 15/06/2011 22:03

Seriously, who actually gives a shit.

Let's just say for example the future king, any future king, married someone who was rather, errr, dull and not particularly intelligent. But she is very pretty and nice!

But he loves her despite this former shortcomings (no, really?)

So he marries her and she becomes a member of the royal family.

Should someone who is for arguments sake, intellectually challenged or very shy, or a very bad speaker, have to speak at this early stage in her royal life?

Why does it matter if she does or she doesn't and who does it benefit either way? She is not sitting in a guarded room quaffing Moet refusing to interact now is she. That would be unnaceptable.

If she wasn't beautiful and still decided not to speak, would you have started this thread?

I'd love to hear you attempt to speak, OP [grin}

PregolaLola · 15/06/2011 22:06

i feel shes a bit dull, she looks pretty scared alot of the time and well.. almost frail in the way she holds herself
but i think shes got forever to do speeches and nothing to do them on at the minute......
''well, yes i bought this dress, tis british origin, tis dead comfy, tis a bit baggy on me, thank you for coming out''

chicletteeth · 15/06/2011 22:07

Apologies for all my typos, my touch-typing isn't what is used to be and Ican't be arsed to go back and correct them

meditrina · 15/06/2011 22:09

First reaction to the title was: no way will she ever have a Barbie bust!

But I agree that she's being eased into the role. She's done some of the set piece events since the wedding and a couple of walkabouts before. The Americas trip will give more experience of engagements - and even though she's not doing formal speeches yet, she will be talking to the people she meets and learning the representational ropes. The big charity roles and patronages will no doubt follow, and speeches etc will be part of this is due course.

celticlassie · 15/06/2011 22:10

Why do we care? I think it's partly because we're paying for her. I recently got a class of 13 year olds to write an essay detailing the pros and cons of the royal family and, while they struggled to come up with pros, one of the few was that they can use their positions to draw attention to charities and causes (hopefully ones close her own heart). So, yes, I agree that she's still very new to the position and should be given time but I would love to see something at some point.

celticlassie · 15/06/2011 22:12

That's a horrible word - "ones". I apologise. Blush

troisgarcons · 15/06/2011 22:13

Im prone to mis spellings .. married with??? married to .... that's not a touch typing issue
So when you can construct a speech - feel free to tell Kate how it's done.

chicletteeth · 15/06/2011 22:16

I'm not even pro-royal, but I think some people often forget how much money the royal family generate.

Actually, I'm pretty much a republican really, but I feel the OPs comments are out of line.

Would OP have said this if our future monarch was a woman and her new (attractive) husband wasn't saying anything?

My guess is not!

exoticfruits · 15/06/2011 22:17

I think that she brings in far more money than she costs-charities certainly think so.

Mollydoggerson · 15/06/2011 22:20

I also think the OP is out of line, give the girl a chance.

Clytaemnestra · 15/06/2011 22:21

"She has been criticised in foreign press for wearing sweat shop labour fashion tbh"

I'd say 95% of the UK wears clothes or uses products (especially tech) created in a sweatshop so she's doing a good job representing us there.

exoticfruits · 15/06/2011 22:21

I would love to see some of the really critical people put themselves up in the public eye so we could all comment. However I expect they are perfect on all counts. Grin
I would hate the job-wouldn't do it for any money- so good luck to her.
I think that 'dullness' is a very good quality-very under rated and much the best bet.

MissDemeanor · 15/06/2011 22:25

She's just keeping everything under wraps. The less there is to criticise the less she can be criticised.

sassyminder · 15/06/2011 22:28

Why people here feel the need to be so rude when one is just asking opinions?
no I cant make a speech, or een speak properly or even express myself properly...in a language that is not my mother tongue even tough I am make an effort to learn for the past 5 years hae been started when I was only 30 years old.
Just read the paper and got a question
I am not even used to monarchy that is why asked if she should be doing speeches once she is married to the prince.
And I am so ever sorry I mispelt the word HAIRdresser
Never mind, will be back to the websites where I can speak my language even though people there cant coment on royalty. But they can be mean as well when they cant agree with what you say...guess it is just an internet thing since it is so easy for some to be two faces and fake when talking face to face
mybe that is why they come here to vent at others, how miserable they must be

Hang on, we're not saying we're perfect and she's awful. I, at least, am saying that I would like to see her play more of a role.

Yes, she married him and that doesn't automatically make her obliged to make speeches. However, she obviously knows what his position is and what that entails. When so many turn out for her wedding, I think she could play more of a role. She's nearly 30, FGS...and has been in the public eye for a while.

SuePurblybilt · 15/06/2011 22:31

Treason. Off with your head.

PamBeesly · 15/06/2011 22:32

Sometimes I just think she is a woman who married the man that she loved, sure that man had a lot of T&C's but my god what a lot of scrutiny she is under, she is too thin, she hasn't heir bearing hips, her family are gold diggers...Sheesh I think the meeja needs to back off and give her a break.

chicletteeth · 15/06/2011 22:33

You asked if YWBU.
You have received your answers.
You want to express an opinion, word it differently (being less critical) or post in chat.

PamBeesly · 15/06/2011 22:34

Sassy your opinion is 100% relevant, I think it is anyway
