one of which is a no!
I gave them to nursery on Tuesday and thats all I've had. I'm feeling really bad, and keep checking my phone every bloody 5 minutes. What will I tell him if I have to cancel?

i never rsvp'd until the day before :)

vigglewiggle · 16/06/2011 11:20

Why not judys ?

snailoon · 16/06/2011 11:22

Do you drop off or pick up? Why on earth don't you just ask people if they can come?

elphabadefiesgravity · 16/06/2011 11:26

Thats a bit off Judy as often you have to give numbers in before that or at least order/buy the right amount of party bags/fillers

MumblingRagDoll · 16/06/2011 11:35

I think it's off too Judy....if you want to make sure that nothing better is available for your child to do, then it's better to refuse the invitation. It is thoughtless as some venues want an exact number of kids...and charge anyway for those who do not turn up.

Its very self-involved for people not to RSVP.

thisisyesterday · 16/06/2011 11:40

if someone RSVP'd to me the day before a party they would likely be told it was too late as i would have already catered etc

it's exceptionally rude

I have found in the past that I've needed to chase people up, but when I have done so they've been fine about it, it's normally just that it's been low on a long list of priorities!

i would do this maybe a week or so before the date, and that will be final numbers

going · 16/06/2011 11:51

My DD is having a party on Saturday> I chased a couple of people up at the end of last week as it's only a small party and we are doing some arts and crafts so needed numbers. Both thought they had already said yes but they hadn't told me. No one has ever had a problem with me chasing them up.

I have never had a non reply from anyone, sounds like my childrens school is quite unusal! If a child turned up wothout replying then depending on the party I may send them back home.

You're worrying after 1 day?! Calm down!

I had rsvp problems with my dcs party a few weeks ago. Some rsvp'd in the first few days after invites went out and then dribs and drabs after that, some I had to text (the one's whose numbers I had) and ask, some I asked when I saw them at school, some text a few days before the party. About 1/3 of the one's I invited from school didn't rsvp at all! So I never knew if they were going to turn up or not at the last minute. They didn't luckily as I'd invited too many people.

cornflakegirl · 16/06/2011 13:20

DS1 invited 8 people to his 6th birthday party. I got four replies, including one decline. Two children turned up, one of them half an hour late when I phoned the parent to check they hadn't forgotten. And they had a brilliant time.

Hulababy · 16/06/2011 13:23

I get round all this my doing individual food boxes for each child. The rsvp then lists options for children to chose from. No rsvp, no food box. Always have had 100% rsvp whenever I have done this :)

For some of D's parties I have needed definite numbers as you pay per child and it had to be booked up front.

Hulababy · 16/06/2011 13:27

JudysJudgemet - in the case of DD's party this year, the day before would have been too late. I would have chased before that tbh though. But would have needed a yes or no, not a maybe.

Obviously you get cancellations due to illness on the day but that is very different to not bothering to rsvp.

Do the same people who don't rsvp to children's parties also not rsvp to wedding invitations or invitations for meals, etc?

halcyondays · 16/06/2011 13:34

You only gave the invitations out yesterday, give them a chance. We had a party recently and the replies came back over several days, and you always get a few who don't reply at all. I'm sure you'll get some more replies over the next few days.
