AIBU to think the foul language and vulgar tone of these threads is just too much

During the last few days the foul language, just a quick skim through the AIBU headings reveals such awful words, has been such that I don't think I will be coming back again too often. Mumsnet - Middle Class - Parenting orientated - really, is it really? Vulgar, nasty, ill mannered, spring more easily to mind. What a shame.

How do you know I don't already have an MBE ?

Northernlurker · 15/06/2011 23:07

Slubberdegullion I feel somewhat the same Sad

Vagabond · 15/06/2011 23:07

Last point: Clemetteattle.....you looked a poster up? Is that possibly the most pathetic thing I've ever heard of? Do people actually do that?

Ha!

I love the way "you all don't care". And you research another member of Mumset!

QueeferSutherland · 15/06/2011 23:08

Can' be arsed t read the whole thread, but noticed MNHQ started deleting posts then thought "ach, fuck it...".

DooinMeCleanin · 15/06/2011 23:09

Slubber, MN has always been this way. Everynow again someone will come along and post about swearing and you can guarentee the first reply will be along the lines of "Off you fuck then, watch the bastard door on your way out"

The only thing I have noticed changing is all the lolling and hunning. Lol is far more offensive than fuck imo. And hun is much worse than cunt.

MsTeak · 15/06/2011 23:09

I'm very clever, yes! Whats your point?

madmomma · 15/06/2011 23:10

Hullygully did, joni

clemetteattlee · 15/06/2011 23:10

See, spelt wrong again. Sigh.
The is a button just to the right of this thread. You said she was a newbie, I had never seen her before but thought I'd check. I like accuracy.

AnyFucker · 15/06/2011 23:11

slubber, NL...that would be a shame

but I don't think MN is any different, certainly not in the 4 years I have been around

cutting your nose off to spite your face ?

best just to swerve the sweary threads, if it don't float your boat, they tend to be pretty well-signposted

Vagabond · 15/06/2011 23:12

Oh, I see, Clem.... you're discerning. I get it.

Aren't we all.

With that, my book.....

JoniRules · 15/06/2011 23:13

Northernlurker Slubberdegullion

I agree. It's not even a moral thing about the swearing and name calling, it's just juvenile and stupid and whenever anyone posts a thread about the swearing everyone jumps on them calling them names and swearing at them. If you find it offensive or object to it then you don't get that they're being ironic, or you don't have a sense of humour, or you are joyless, or judgemental, or you can't banter. It's not ironic or funny it's just stupid and as Vagabond pointed out some kind of weird sweary point scoring thing, as in who can be the most offensive. Who can swear the most..it's just obvious and pathetic. Why can't anyone debate intelligently?

Northernlurker · 15/06/2011 23:15

I don't mind the swearing. Never have. I mind the abuse hurled at the OP - who has as much a right to say she doesn't like it as any other poster does to say they love it. I also mind the pathetic atempts to describe bullying as 'funny' and 'ironic'. I've been on mumsnet for four years and I haven't seen that tolerated and encouraged the way it has been by so many posters tonight.

AnyFucker · 15/06/2011 23:16

gott larf that joni got deleted...

AnyFucker · 15/06/2011 23:16

gotta

joni, what on earth did you say that was sooooo bad ?

wash your mouth out !

clemetteattlee · 15/06/2011 23:17

To be fair, Joni, the OP didn't posit a debate point. She called some people some names.
I think it would be interesting to debate the place if swearing in society, and the reasons why some words at considered to be more offensive than others, but if I wanted to have that debate I would frame it as a debate, not as a "you are all horrible" post.
And if the was a thread that I found really distasteful, I would either report it, or just hide it. I find SO many things distasteful in real life, but have found that stamping my foot and saying "why are you so unpleasant) isn't a particularly effective way of changing things.

JoniRules · 15/06/2011 23:17

Yes that's what I feel with these kinds of threads. You say you don't like the swearing and you will get rounded upon and called names

Pumpernickel10 · 15/06/2011 23:17

Well I'm a relative newbie and I'm not offended and I've been made to feel welcome on here, act like a fecking twat we will treat you like one.
Twat is a Posher version of cunt ;)

OvO · 15/06/2011 23:18

Well said, Northern.

I have laughed myself silly at threads with loads of swearing. I swear in RL and on here. I don't call people a cunt or twat faced because I disagree with them.

MsTeak · 15/06/2011 23:18

didn't you read the OP though, hardly a wilting flower, calling everyone vulgar, nasty and ill mannered. Is it only swear words are offensive and everything else is fine.

Swearing is allowed here. If you don't like it, go somewhere with filters, don't whine about the nasty nasty people using awful words. Grow up.

microserf · 15/06/2011 23:18

GUTTED to see the second post on this thread was deleted by MN, i bloody well snorted out loud laughing when i read it. so did dh when i read it to him.

thanks to MN, my new word de jour is "twunt". i fucking LOVE that word. most serviceable. thanks again MNetters!

clemetteattlee · 15/06/2011 23:19

Vaga, I am discerning (I listen to the Archers rather than watch Corrie) but I suspect that's not the word you meant.

AnyFucker · 15/06/2011 23:20

Vulgar, nasty, ill mannered, spring more easily to mind. Quoted from the squeaky-clean OP.

So that is the way to start a reasoned debate , is it ?

Hmm
madmomma · 15/06/2011 23:21

One man's meat is another man's poison. People just find different things funny. Of course it's juvenile! Some people have a juvenile, puerile sense of humour - it isn't a crime. I don't see how you can say that you're not being judgemental really Joni? Calling something pathetic is quite clearly making a value judgement. We're all adults here and there are plenty of non-sweary threads. Why object to a thread?

OvO · 15/06/2011 23:21

I swear. I have no problem with anyone swearing. So I won't go away, thanks anyway.

JoniRules · 15/06/2011 23:22

Have no idea why my post was deleted. maybe was paraphrasing someone elses post..
