I unfortunately got talking to someone at school today, and I mentioned that fact that the demise of manners on the road saddens me (I excell at smalltalk Wink), and she went off on a tangent that she only lets people with "naice" cars out into traffic.

Quite a productive day.

Ha! I drive a classic car with no reverse and a top speed of 40. It's marvellous to watch peoples expressions :)

foolserrand · 14/06/2011 22:22

I refuse to let posh cars out. Especially things like aston martins. My dad has one that he won't let me drive so I hate them. I have a 4x4. Need it for work, dogs, ds and dscs. And I average 35mpg in it. Better than many estates thank you very much!

HarrietSchulenberg · 14/06/2011 22:54

I have never yet met a farmer who owns a posh 4x4. They all have Toyota pickups or 30 year old Landrovers (the sort you can fix yourself as the engines are so basic).
FWIW I get 46 mpg from my old Galaxy, which I think's pretty good considering what we use it for.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 14/06/2011 23:03

I must say I rarely let taxi druvers out.

Or people not wearing seltbelts.

bellavita · 14/06/2011 23:06

I rarely let people put in naice cars

bellavita · 14/06/2011 23:06

Fgs... Out not put

BelleDameSansMerci · 14/06/2011 23:08

I've got a nice car bellavita

It's old though and has some rust. Will you let me out now please?

sue52 · 14/06/2011 23:09

I never let Audi out. For some reason all Audi drivers I have encountered are terrible human beings.

bellavita · 14/06/2011 23:09

Belle, just for you then Grin

shmoz · 14/06/2011 23:21

I don't let anyone out if I can help it

Except my mother, her driving is dreadful so I'd rather have her up front where she can't run into the back of me Hmm

Tortington · 14/06/2011 23:22

i only let smokers out and people who are singing.

i never let bmw drivers out - wankers.

somethingwitty82 · 14/06/2011 23:25

Yes you should! especially peopel in x5, porshe cayenne, any 4x4 that only has 2 wheel drive, all BMW drivers.

Lil old ladys in tiny puntos go to heaven

swanker · 14/06/2011 23:27

I always let people out who have the same car as me (or any of the past models I've had)

Where on earth do people live that have people driving around in Aston Martins?

swanker · 14/06/2011 23:28

custy- I'm always singing in my car... maybe that's why people often let me out?

SlobbyBOB · 14/06/2011 23:37

Why all the crappy let this car out or other.
Just do it for the road conditons.

People do seem surprised by me doing though as i'm a
100% Wanker wagon driver

Omigawd · 15/06/2011 05:22

It is well known that the bigger the car, the smaller the dick - and bigger the dick head :)

(But then I always think the bigger the baby buggy, the bigger the Drama Queen too)

I also think those who attack 4x4 forget that some of the people carriers are as big on the road ( though they never seem to have a smug yummy mummy in them, which is what it's really about IMHO....)

foolserrand · 15/06/2011 07:05

swanker my dad is in west hertfordshire. And he drives a wv polo to work.

Al0uiseG · 15/06/2011 07:20

Chippy comments abound Hmm

Irksome · 15/06/2011 07:23

I never let 4x4s out or do them any sort of favours, and I let buses go unless I'm in a big hurry and it's one of those stupid bendy ones.

squeakytoy · 15/06/2011 07:28

I am unfortunate enough to drive a 4 x 4. I actually love it, and we go to the Lakes and Cornwall quite often, which means the car is actually used for its purpose too.

However, I live near a school, and if I go out at any time when it is school run time, other drivers seem to go out of their way to be ignorant to me. Hmm... I feel like having a windscreen sticker and a back sticker saying "I am not doing the school run".

Chandon · 15/06/2011 07:30

chips galore indeed!

I have a "naice" car, people are often surprised to see a car liek mine stop for a crossing, or if I let someone go first.

But I have never had problems with people not letting me in, maybe my car is not "that" naice after all...Sad

nooka · 15/06/2011 07:50

I let people in front of me when it's their turn, or if they smile nicely. The only time I get bolshy is if they try and force themselves in front of me in a rude and aggressive manner. Sadly this makes me behave in a rude and aggressive manner in turn, which makes me feel quite aggrieved. Luckily I now live somewhere where there is very rarely a reason not to be courteous as there is so little traffic.

I drive a pick up truck with an extended box. It is ridiculously large and I am very fond of it (it's great to be able to carry loads of camping stuff, boats, half tons of gravel etc, and the rest of my life I have always cycled/used public transport, so I don't feel too terrible about it's carbon footprint). I don't have a penis of any size though.

Oh and it is a 4x4 too (necessary for driving off road and much safer in the winter). I can't understand why people have them in the city either, plus the farmers I have known all had beaten up old sedans which they drove across fields when they weren't using their tractors.

squeakytoy · 15/06/2011 08:02

I do have a bit of tourettes style road rage when I let people through and they dont acknowledge it... usually in the form of yelling "its ok, your fucking welcome" Grin

I do hate bad manners...

Fiddledee · 15/06/2011 08:19

to justify a 4x4 for the one week of the year it snows is quite common but patently ridiculous. I live in the sticks, most 4x4 driven by women on a school running late and obviously can't handle them, it may be safer for them but not the rest of the cars on the road. Although I think we will see fewer of them given the price of petrol so there is one good thing coming from that.

otchayaniye · 15/06/2011 08:22

I drive a Porsche 911 and have a toddler and have been judged/shouted at in Parent & Child parking for not being allowed to park there. Cue sheepish faces as I get my child out and into a back wrap.
