Ok, so my facebook is restricted so that unless you are my friend all you can see is my name and profile pic.

My profile pic is one of the few where i think i look ok. (DS took it just as i got out the bath and was applying some make up)
Obviously no flabby bits and wrinkles.

anyway. I got an inbox message from a guy telling me "Ur gawjus babe x"

Now, after looking at it for a minute and translating it i replied with a simple "thank you"

He's not a bad looking fella so i took a look at his profile. he's 22 Shock
I am errm, not 22.

Within a flash he comes back with "Oh ok u wana meet up n get to know me x"

Not entirely sure of the etiquette for letting a stranger down via the internet i politely replied "As flattered as i am, I think i'm a little old for you."

to which he came back almost instantly with "Na ur not to old 4 me hun so u wana get to know me then x"

Now i have translated this as - its ok, i don;'t mind the odd granny. so do you want to meet up for some WKD's and a shag?

So, as flattering as it is to have been contacted by this good looking toy boy, I am not entirely floored by his technique.
I am sure if were his age i would be over the moon to have received such attention.

Is this really what dating is like now? a 2 minute conversation via facebook and then off to bed?

Oh God I've never replied to random Facebook messages. It would only encourage them...it's not rude at all Lol!!

thegruffalosma · 14/06/2011 23:44

I have had similar along with a friend request in my case. What I want to know is how do they find you? I had no friends in common with the guy so do some men just type a name in and look for women or something?

Lonnie · 14/06/2011 23:46

ohh nice one Lady thank you id never heard that one.. laughs.. (actually a bit speachless laughs) but off course OP you now have to go for it if thats what he thinks [grins]

Mamaz0n · 14/06/2011 23:46

manti - i was encouraged to post it by a fellow Mner. I was expecting a flaming tbh.

Gruff - yes i wondered that too. How did he find me. I do get a lot less now that i have changed my Fb name from my real name and to a NN instead

It's quite simple if you don't want randoms to find you or message you, just change your security settings.

thegruffalosma · 15/06/2011 00:07

Mine are as high as they will go worral but anyone can message you or request you as a friend. I've no idea how they would have even found my name and pic without just browsing through pages of names.

worraliberty · 15/06/2011 00:24

In the security settings there's an 'opt out of search' option..just tick that and you won't come up. There's also a bit where you can choose 'only friends or friends or friends' can message you.

Just have a play/look through the settings..not just the ones under 'security' but also the ones under 'applications'

worraliberty · 15/06/2011 00:25

Oh and you can also set it to 'no friend requests' or 'only friends of friends' can send requests.

thegruffalosma · 15/06/2011 00:30

Thanks worral!
