Sorry to hear there are a few of us :(

Children for example. They are lovely, I am very lucky to ahve them. But life with them is so hard, I am permanently sleep deprived and unable to carry out the most basic functions (think having a shower, making dinner, going to the loo) without a lot of stress and shouting. And what makes it worse is that they are 4 and 2 and I am assured it will only get worse. :( I am surviving on 5 hours sleep most nights. Any less than that and I will be in serious trouble.
All other aspects (job) similar, where in fact I am lucky this is all I ahve to worry about iyswim. Apart from one thing which is my dad's health and I'm too terrified to think about that in too much detail, because everything will be fine.

That said I have slept fairly well this weekend :) seems to be the weeks where I get into a cycle of bed at midnight, up soon after 5

UrsulaBuffay · 12/06/2011 21:46

Oh me an'all

StealthPolarBear · 12/06/2011 21:46

Not to mention up during the night to feed the almost 2 yo. Must do something about that but lacking enough mental capacity/motivation.

Stealth, look at it this way, at least you have a job, where you can 'escape' from the little darlings for a while each day.

hiddenhome · 12/06/2011 21:48

They're 4 and 2 and people have said it will get worse Hmm. In my experience it gets a lot better as time goes on. 2 and 4 are difficult ages and it will get better from now on, but it takes time.

Are they bad sleepers?

JoniRules · 12/06/2011 21:49

Brew and sympathy

I felt a bit like this a couple of weeks ago for a week or so (about the children), totally understand. Love them to bits but my 4 yr old DS drives me insane and I feel so angry and pissed off sometimes. All i can say is everything changes

allegrageller · 12/06/2011 21:49

stealth it does get better. Especially the sleep. I found age 1-2 an utter nightmare (I was working f/t too with both kids) I actually went the whole hot and had a couple of complete nervous breakdowns then got divorced as well which really helped :S but really, now they are 4 and nearly 8, it's by no means easy but it's a different level really. For instance ds1 will now HELP me with things e.g 'can you help me clean the table/find ds2's shoes' etc ....it's remarkable.

allegrageller · 12/06/2011 21:49

*whole HOG, of course

onetwoflea · 12/06/2011 21:50

Hi stealth.
me too. DCs 4, 2, & baby. GPs health on dodgy ground. am sick of giving myself pep talks for every f*g day. When am I allowed to give up?

coocoocachoo · 12/06/2011 21:52

mere days away from having my own little bundle of joy - starting to think that at least while it is 'in utero' (sp?) at least its quiet even if the heartburns a bitch! Not wishing it out by any means just yet and still enjoying the sleep.

Now DH on the other hand provides a constant stream of reasons to be pissed off - he can't do right for wrong at the mo, bless him!

StealthPolarBear · 12/06/2011 21:52

lol msp - I thought you wee going to tell me to be grateful I ahve a job, which I am of course :o

TBH though this job has made me appreciate being home with them a hell of a lot more

Yes, I have asked this question before and told, no, it never gets better, only worse. The older one is a good sleeper, but that has been a fairly recent thing. He was 2y4m when DD was born, and I think, in fairness he was getting there then but then things were disrupted by the new arrival. DD is 21 months and has once slept all night - it was the night I couldn't put her down so fell asleep with her cradled in my arms, sort of half sat up :o

Oh, oh me too. It is exhausting keeping a lid on it all.

UrsulaBuffay · 12/06/2011 21:52

My 2.3 yr old is NUTS. everyone keeps laughing & saying it will get worse. Fuckers.

marriedsingleparent · 12/06/2011 21:53

Think there must be something in the water....everyone seems so pissed off atm.

LynetteScavo · 12/06/2011 21:54

I'm very pissed off about everything.

I know I am being unreasonable.

Doesn't stop me being mighty pissed off.

UrsulaBuffay · 12/06/2011 21:54

Let's blame the weather, which to be fair is shit.

StealthPolarBear · 12/06/2011 21:55

coocoocachoo, no the one thing I comfort myself with is that I am not pregnant, as I was when DS was this age. The sleep deprivation with a newborn was nothing compared to late pregnancy, IME. It then all went horribly wrong for me when I tried to go back to work and had some semblence of 'normal' life with children.
TBH, most of this is my job. The rest is probably manageable. Yes, they're bad sleepers but I'd be in bed before midnight if I wasn't travelling to/from work or at work 7-7. I'd be less snappy if I wasn't stressed out.

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 12/06/2011 21:56

onetwoflea, yes that ois hard :( Do you have siblings or is this all down to you (and DH/DP)?

OP posts:
allegrageller · 12/06/2011 21:56

really- I'm surprised everyone told you it gets worse. Really it doesn't. Certainly didn't for me and I am a chronic depressive and pessimist who isnt' positive about much, but older kids are nothing but a blessing :) Unless I suppose you are the earth mother type who wants babes in arms who stay where they are when put down and don't talk etc.

I have much preferred over 4. So much more reasonable (not always reasonable of course- just not CONSTANTLY unreasonable....)

ds1 and I have conversations now about interesting things. I am not bored when with them any more. On the minus side everything costs more for older kids.
