No, Lorelai, that makes sense, thanks Smile

valiumredhead · 13/06/2011 08:57

Oh how odd - just got TC letter through the post. Dh earns well over the £42k mark but we will still get £10 a week - it will only be reduces by about 50p.

I wish I understood how they work these things out Confused

jester68 · 13/06/2011 09:00

CHINNY- we had that last year. When we had my eldest daughter we got around £50 every 4 weeks. Then our second was born and it shot up to about £250.

Last year combined income was £22,500 and we now get just over £290 every 4 weeks

Very confusing, we earn over £42k and have a letter saying we will still get the £10 a week we always have, I have also tried to phone a few times recently to no avail...

bonkers20 · 13/06/2011 13:21

Sigh, just about to phone them now to tell them of changes in circumstances. This is my 2hr window in my week to do such things (nap time during the day I don't work) so they'd better bloomin' answer!

If I get through, shall I pass the phone over to you tinkbig?

tinkbig · 13/06/2011 13:26

lol bonkers good luck

It took me twenty two mins to get through an hour ago. Also have been told we'll get £4 per week towards child care costs of £75. I thought it'd be more. I'm pretty gutted. Sad

reikizen · 13/06/2011 13:29

when they ask about income, I assume they mean after tax?

tinkbig · 13/06/2011 13:44

oh sorry chinny

OP posts:
Journey · 13/06/2011 13:49

I thought it was before tax.

EricNorthmansMistress · 13/06/2011 13:50

No they mean pre-tax.

MorallyBankrupt · 13/06/2011 13:51

No, they mean before tax.

EricNorthmansMistress · 13/06/2011 13:52

When you give your income, do you deduct pension contributions?

MorallyBankrupt · 13/06/2011 13:52

Does anyone know anything about deductions? I need to make some for travelling expenses for DHs job... Really scared to do it though in case they tell me years later I got it wrong and need to pay back loads.... Do they check all the deductions you make? Do you need to provide receipts?

bonkers20 · 13/06/2011 13:58

Got through and told them of my changes (change in working hrs and childcare costs). All done in 28mins and dinner 1/2 prepared at the same time! Fingers crossed they don't decide we're suddenly flush now and take our credits away!

The help notes are quite clear for those not sure about deductions.

tinkbig · 13/06/2011 14:09

i got through to have told thenm about dhs earnings
took ages to speak to someone!!!
so glad it is done now

was due to get payment friday will i still?
she said it would take a few weeks to sort

MorallyBankrupt · 13/06/2011 14:22

The deductions just say expenses necessary for your job.... But DH has a somewhat interesting job that involves a lot of travel in his car. So can we deduct all those petrol costs?

tinkbig · 13/06/2011 14:25

thoughts please about payment ?

ChinnyReckon · 13/06/2011 14:35

Sorry for hijacking your thread to moan OP! Glad you got through, not sure about when your changes will take effect. The whole thing is a bit stressful ist it? I'm terrifed of giving the wrong information unknowingly and then being asked to pay it back in one go or something.

MorallyBankrupt, if I was you I'd call up and do it over the phone. They're super helpful and know what they're talking about it.The lady I spoke to even apologised for the £4 childcare costs, bless Grin

tinkbig · 13/06/2011 14:37

cheers chinny
it certanly is stressful!!
so glad i got through

re: paying over payments back. If you're still entitled to credit, they can just reduce them or stop paying until you've paid them back. Otherwise I think you can pay back in installments. Since the system does not allow anyone to work out how much they are entitled to ie how can anyone know if they're being overpaid, then they should be gracious in how you pay it back.
