If you're still prepared to pay it rather than buy cheaper ones, then they've got their pricing policy just right!

cybbo · 11/06/2011 22:14

YABU to be INCENSED

There are more ahem, pressing things in the world to get het up about

And also, its still a meal for 4 people with toast Wink

PenguinArmy · 11/06/2011 22:14

You should try buying them in America, $2 a tin

PenguinArmy · 11/06/2011 22:15

which is double 64p

portaloo · 11/06/2011 22:15

I've been incensed by the price of Heinz Baked Beans for a long time now. Hasn't stopped me buying them, but I try to stock up when they have special offers on.
FWIW, I'm incensed by the price of lots of food now. Seems there's very little which can be bought for under £1 anymore. Sad

portaloo · 11/06/2011 22:17

cybbo A tin of beans = a meal for four? Hmm Not in my house Grin

icecreaminmyhair · 11/06/2011 22:17

Try nicking them instead Grin

elphabadefiesgravity · 11/06/2011 22:17

Heinz beans are one of the only branded products I think are worth the extra, (the others being Kellogs cornflakes and Roberts bread)

GypsyMoth · 11/06/2011 22:19

4tins for a pound in poundland!!

GypsyMoth · 11/06/2011 22:20

Roberts bread??

Happymm · 11/06/2011 22:21

Heinz are the best though. Currently £1 fir a four pack in our local Spar :o

VivaLeBeaver · 11/06/2011 22:22

Never eaten baked beans but a tin of heinze ravioli is over a pound in the co-op now. What's Roberts bread.

ZXEightyMum · 11/06/2011 22:22

I don't like Heinz beans but I do like beans. They do them in fridge-packs now for lazy people who don't have any plastic boxes / tupperware-type things in their kitchen cupboards. That'll help when you're on a strict budget Hmm

elphabadefiesgravity · 11/06/2011 22:23

Roberts is made in Cheshire I think. Much nicer and keeps fresher than Warburtons or Hovis. Far superior to supermarket bread

squeakytoy · 11/06/2011 22:24

a meal for 4 out of one tin???? you must have the appetite of sparrows!! :)

passivelyaggresive · 11/06/2011 22:24

Dont like heinz beans, always used to buy branded stuff but now i buy shops own discount range and i actually prefer them, they dont have that twang that heinz beans have, its the same for ketchup - we've simply been brainwashed into thinking they are the best is all

portaloo · 11/06/2011 22:24

Happymm That is excellent value. I'd be checking the BB date and stocking up at that price.

BecauseImWorthIt · 11/06/2011 22:25

Buy Sainsbury Basics or Tesco Value - they need cooking for longer (i.e. not just re-heating) but they're just as good and they are lower in calories.

Cymar · 11/06/2011 22:26

Have you tried the store's own brand jazzed up with a few glugs of worcestershire sauce or chilli powder? Could even use HP/brown sauce if you like. My kids love it and keep pestering me for more.

ooohyouareawfulbutilikeyou · 11/06/2011 22:27

value beans are minging, all water and no bean

but tesco own are ok

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 11/06/2011 22:28

We rarely eat baked beans chez Izzy, but when the urge strikes I buy Branston as we prefer the taste - my last purchase was a special offer, 4 tins for £2.

Haven't seen Roberts bread on my local supermarket shelves (in London), but when buying packaged sliced white bread for sandwiches I'll always pay extra for Warburtons.

Cymar · 11/06/2011 22:30

I'd recently read about a nutritional survey done on beaked beans and other branded and own brand products and Tesco Value baked beans (I'm nearly sure) came out tops for the least salt and sugar per tin than other tested brands.

tomhardyismydh · 11/06/2011 22:30

get branston, far tastier and can often be picked up from £1 for 4 tins Grin

elphabadefiesgravity · 11/06/2011 22:32

I don;t like the taste of Branston ones.

I used to but own brand value ones when a student but dh eventually rebelled and I have to admit they were pouse.

ZXEightyMum · 11/06/2011 22:37

Branston do seem to have more of a kick to them but perhaps that's because I subliminally associate them with the pickle.
