Have you seen it?

Attractive, slightly simpering woman suffering from stress incontinence exits lift with handsome man ( colleague?) and her dress gets caught in the lift door and reveals her knickers while man is bending down for spurious reason so could theoretically get a good squint at her fanjo , but WHEW! She's wearing tena lady so he can get a right good eyeful of her vaggy buts but not be offended by the possiblilty she might be leaking urine.

BOAK

I wish that she would pee on the floor or toot in the lift...it's like one of those patronising ads from the fifties. Agreed - awful!

Mandy2003 · 10/06/2011 10:43

I'm imagining it crossed with that awful (in their representation) character from Little Britain - the elderly lady with guerrilla incontinence!

"There are some times in life when a panty liner so use Tena"

allhailtheaubergine · 10/06/2011 10:44

Wtf? So he happily ogles her tenna pad?

wrongdecade · 10/06/2011 10:46

I always wonder why younger women are always on theses adverts

apart from exceptions its usually older women

FruStefanLindman · 10/06/2011 10:47

I think it's vile too.

But I think I've worked out what happened. Creative meeting at the ad agency, they're all trying to think of a scenario where an attractive young woman, being admired by the hot guy, needs to wear a tena lady.

They all get totally bored with it and start writing spoof TV commercials. This is a spoof one - and nobody noticed. Grin

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 10/06/2011 10:48

Yes, it's awful isnt it.....I was like Shock the first time I saw it.

But then.......

My MIL is prob the typical person who needs those - she is 75 with severe dementia - I wouldnt really want to see her on the advert and def not with her skirt blowing round her ears Hmm.....not that would be vile!

fgaaagh · 10/06/2011 10:49

FruStefanLindman - liking your theory!

fgaaagh · 10/06/2011 10:53

Woops hit post too soon.

What I don't understand is their need to "sex" up these items.

I understand there's a marketing reason to put sex into makeup. Or perfume. Or clothing. It must work.

But pads? It's like a group of advertising blokes have followed the same flowchart for a TV ad that they normally do, but only realised it's incontenence pads at the last minute... 3 days after they finish shooting the commercial.

e.g. TV Advert Creative Instructions:

Can the ad be market to children? If yes, insert cartoon stuff / lots of colours / market to mum and dad as healthy / makes em good in school / etc.

Can the ad be marketed to adults? Can it feature a woman? If yes, get a youngish model, sex her up, insert sly reference to some chemistry in there, flash up the product packaging, end with small smile or some final shot of an emotional association with the product (happy smile now that abdominal cramps have gone, skipping woman now that her fanny pads don't leak, a man-woman hug now that he has his grey hair gone... and so on).

Malificence · 10/06/2011 11:00

I wonder why they don't advertise incontinence pads for men, or those penis clamps that some men have to use to stop leakage?

Me and DH were like wtf? Hmm , when we saw that advert, bonkers.

MumblingRagDoll · 10/06/2011 11:06

Ew. Good poin Malificence! Maybe men dont suffer as badly?

MumblingRagDoll · 10/06/2011 11:07

Penis clamps????? Shock wtf?

DirtyMartini · 10/06/2011 11:08

Shock at penis clamps - I had no idea.

And of course, double and triple Shock at ther Tena ad; sounds appalling. Not seen it myself.

FruStefanLindman · 10/06/2011 11:11

And, although I can't find it anywhere to watch it again, I'm sure towards the end, because of the kerfuffle with her frock, she drops her spare, wrapped tena lady on the floor, which he picks up and hands back to her with a leer - perhaps he's into water games? Shock

FruStefanLindman · 10/06/2011 11:14

Doh! I meant water sports

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 10/06/2011 11:15

It's a stupid advert, I think, but not vile. That's an overreaction, surely? Hmm

discobeaver · 10/06/2011 11:18

Penis clamps? Like a bulldog clip?

mrswhiskerson · 10/06/2011 11:27

The women in these adverts are getting younger and younger soon there will be teenagers advertising tena lady.

I can just imagine the man in the office going back his mates in his department and saying something along the lines of ,

I just that fit bird from accounts in the lift her skirt got pulled right up!

did you see anything ???
Nah she had a massive tena lady on.

GeekCool · 10/06/2011 11:30

Every time I see the 'Have a happy period' ad (always?) I get the urge to scream 'fuck off!' at the tv.

fgaaagh · 10/06/2011 11:35

mrswhiskerson you just made me snort with laughter out loud in my office - the old boot that does our accounts (who hates me) just shot me a look.

(i suspect she thinks i'mnot working (i am, i'm on a conference call but just for about 5 minutes at the end, despite being asked to sit in for the full hour's call - yawn))

had to pretend i was having a coughing fit, oh dear

jasper · 10/06/2011 11:48

frustefan, great theory , and possibly correct

OP posts:
Malificence · 10/06/2011 12:10

Yep, like a bulldog clip -www.uroanswers.com/dribblestop-incontinence-clamp.aspx

Men who've had prostate surgery can end up with slight leakage ( or even full urinary incontinence)

Malificence · 10/06/2011 12:11

No sniggering at dribblestop please , we are all adults here. Well maybe a slight titter.

jasper · 10/06/2011 12:14

Mal I'd like to see that in an ad where the bloke in a kilt stands over a vent blowing air upwards

OP posts:
boxoftricks · 10/06/2011 12:19

whilst i agree the ad isnt the best- surely the idea of the ad is that it advertises a new thinner tena lady, therefore in the ad she was worried about him seeing it, but she needn't had as it was a tena "light"
NOT that she needs a tena lady because she'll let out a bit of wee if she sees a hot bloke?
surely its just trying to get across the fact that its discreet so you shouldnt be embarassed?
