Paedophilia compared with homosexuality

There's been lots of posts tonight concerning paedophilia, "nonces", "untoward nursery workers" etc Seems to be a reply in every thread that being a paedophile is a bit like being gay. It's not. I just don't understand how a sexual relationship between consenting adults is the same as perpetrating abuse of some of the most vulnerable people in society.

In a way it's implying that everyone who's not heterosexual, can be lumped together and I think that's incredibly unfair.

Reeling - that is entirely my point. People have such extreme reactions to things they don't understand. Your FIl simply cannot get his head around a man wanting to have sex with another man. (my own father is also a bigotted fuckwit and i spend most days despairing at his inability to see beyind the end of his own nose)

People like your fil will assume that because he is gay he is a sexual deviant. WE are rightly otraged at such opinions. But he is only acting upon thousands of years of society telling him that that is how he should think.

FIL considers himself to be an intelligent, well educated man.Hmm

DP grew up within the same society/background as his Father, moving away when he was fairly young because they were and still are bullies.

He does not hold these opinions no matter what his upbringing told him.

I don't understand how it is that some people turn out so differently from their parents in terms of attitude and tolerance.

Mamaz0n · 10/06/2011 10:54

As does mine.

I would hope that i am a far more tolerant and respectful person than either of my parents. Despite being raised by them andhaving their opinions fed to me daily, Whilst growing up I thought my dad was the most clever person in the whole world. It wasn't until i reached my teenage years and saw more of the world myself that i questioned his views on so many things.

Once you know your own mind and are secure in what you yourself believe it makes it easier to see the flaws in the thinking of others.
