I do buy it, but don't drink it. Pour a can of it into your toilet bowl, leave it for 20 mins and then flush. Sparkling white porcelain! If it does that to your lav imagine what it does to your insides!

tryingtobemarypoppins2 · 09/06/2011 21:01

Hasn't the whole aspartame thing been tested and tested and they say its ok??

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 09/06/2011 21:02

I was only recently thinking that I should post exactly the same, OP! I drink way too much Pepsi - full fat not diet (I find the aspartame in diet drinks gives me awful headaches). I prefer cans as there's just something about cracking open an ice cold can of Pepsi but bottles have more in Grin. If there's no Pepsi available, I'll resort to Coke.

I've tried to give up in the past but within a day or two I literally crave it. I should stop drinking it really, as I know it's no good for me or my finances.

tryingtobemarypoppins2 · 09/06/2011 21:02

I think the caffine is much lower than a coffee.......

There is something fucking wrong with it I swear. People who drink it treat it like cigarettes. I even saw one programme with TA Gillian McKeith where her victim subject couldn't sleep without diet coke by her bed and had even gone out at 3am to get more

flamegirl77 · 09/06/2011 21:03

I am totally addicted to real Coke. I haven't had any for five months since I found out I was pregnant (enough weight to carry!) but I know I'm still an addict and suspect I always will be. It's soooo nice.

FizzyMakeFeelNice · 09/06/2011 21:04

Re: losing weight when giving up diet coke; I saw a programme recently where they did an experiment with a load of rugby players, giving half diet coke and half regular then letting them loose on a buffet. The ones who had diet coke actually ate several hundred calories more than the ones who had regular. They said it's because as diet coke has a sweet taste but no sugar, your body is expecting to receive sugar causing you to eat more.

tryingtobemarypoppins2 · 09/06/2011 21:06

coke is 35mg instant coffe is 100mg

aspartame = poison

cigarettes are legal, it doesnt mean they are good for you

If there is "nothing wrong" with aspartame, why have so many manufacturers and retailers stopped making products with aspartame in, and have switched to other artificial sweeteners...

cybbo · 09/06/2011 21:10

It is extremely acidic and your body doesnt like things to be too acidic

tryingtobemarypoppins2 · 09/06/2011 21:11

Link please squeakytoy I think.....or do I.....I want to know more!

Agree with poster who made the aspartame connection. Seriously people - do some homework on this issue - that stuff is really really not good for you and really really not good for your DC.

firsttimemum77 · 09/06/2011 21:13

Personally I don't see the weight connection. I am 8 stones 5lbs. I guzzle down the diet coke!! Although I do also drink 2 litres of water a day - so spend much of the day going to the loo! Maybe my combination of Diet Coke and water is helping. The water flushing the coke out, maybe...

chirpchirp - I am going to go and pour a can down the loo in a min and make my porcelain gleam Grin.

In all seriousness though, I know I have to cut it out! It is bad, I know that and OP you know that too...but it is an addiction!

valiumbandwitch · 09/06/2011 21:14

Cottonreels, all she did was substitute the coke for sparkling water and she took loads of nurofen to get her through the headaches.

She had successfully given up diet coke once before but ended up 'treating' herself to a bit now and then and then ended up back in the same place, So I think she was determined to kick the stuff second time around. She couldn't understand why she'd lost the weight either.

fuzzpigFriday · 09/06/2011 21:15

I used to drink a fair bit of it. Then in my 2nd pregnancy I just couldn't drink it without feeling sick, apart from Pepsi Max. I had maybe 2 cans a week or something.

I've tried regular/diet ones since then (DS is nearly 2) but I just can't stand it. I have coke zero from macdonalds or pubs etc (ie on draught - not in bottles/cans, it tastes different!) but mostly it has to be Pepsi Max. Still only about 3 or 4 times a week.

I am ridiculously sensitive to caffeine though - I don't drink tea or coffee so I'm not used to it. I can't drink it past about 2pm or I won't sleep! Even if it's just one can. It affected DS through my milk too I think.

I have been a bit more dependant on it lately (and orange lucozade sport) - just so tired. I am trying to cut back again though, I don't feel I should have it every day.

fuzzpigFriday · 09/06/2011 21:16

(sorry by 'it' I meant all sorts of cola type drinks, not specifically diet coke like the OP)

BulletWithAName · 09/06/2011 21:17

DP gets through 2-3 bottles a day on average...

BulletWithAName · 09/06/2011 21:17

2 ltr bottles that is

GwendolineMaryLacey · 09/06/2011 21:17

I've been addicted to diet coke for years and am overweight. I could drink up to 6 cans a day. Now I'm pg I've gone right off it and barely have a couple a week. When this batch runs out I'm not buying more. I drink squash mostly now.

VivaLeBeaver · 09/06/2011 21:18

Another addict here, have to have some as soon as I wake up. Have managed to wean myself onto the caffiene free stuff, it's always been diet, never full fat. Plan was that I'd then wean myself off the caffiene free stuff but that was ten years ago.

I have a weight problem and would not be sup prised if it wasn't helping. I often crave chocolate straight after having some diet coke.

microserf · 09/06/2011 21:20

we feel into a naughty habit of drinking coke zero everyday, just gone cold turkey today. had 2 more coffees than usual, but all is otherwise fine. now i am going to start cutting down the coffees.

the caffeine withdrawal headaches don't last too long and respond well to paracetamol.

Oakmaiden · 09/06/2011 21:24

Oh, it is like coming home.

My name is Oakmaiden and I am a Coca Cola (sugar variety) addict. It has been 4 hours since my last drink, and I have one chilling in the fridge which is calling to me now....

And I know I must stop drinking it. It is bad for my teeth, and is almost certainly the main reason for my ability to use my dresses as tents for the children....

But it is my only bad habit, and I am finding it really hard....

squeakytoy · 09/06/2011 21:27

A balanced report on why diet drinks wont help you lose weight. They dont make you gain weight, but they certainly dont help with weightloss if you are on a diet.

tryingtobemarypoppins2 · 09/06/2011 21:29

LOL Oakmaiden and welcome Grin
