I am getting seriously fed up.

OP posts:
LieInsAreRarerThanTigers · 07/06/2011 13:37

Joking obv. (Am I allowed to say that?) Snobbery on here is entertaining.

CatIsSleepy · 07/06/2011 13:37

i think people need to stop being so precious

bupcakesandcunting · 07/06/2011 13:37

Mumsnet is not a select group but the majority of posters do use a certain style of writing when posting i.e articulate. I do think that new posters should try and take that on board if they want to be taken seriously (personally, if I see a post peppered with lil's and punctuated by lols, my brain switches off...) I wouldn't rock up to the forum of priestsandvicars.com and start talking about bumsex/with this username because it's not appropriate.

SkipToTheEnd · 07/06/2011 13:38

I'd agree with Worra but she used OP so I can't help thinking her hearts not really in her statement....

Rhinestone · 07/06/2011 13:39

I'm not particularly clever, I don't know what 'snarky' means and I'm not a snob. I just like actual words and want to be able to understand people's posts.

OP posts:
HolyFail · 07/06/2011 13:39

bupcakes - i just "liked" your post

lunar1 · 07/06/2011 13:39

If you are banning annoying words please can you stop people typing FACT, simples and 'end of' at the end of sentences. It drives me mad, while your at it can you also stop people saying bairns, and mam.

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 07/06/2011 13:40

Don't fucking joke about it, it seriously pisses me off Angry

bupcakesandcunting · 07/06/2011 13:42

You might be surprised by what you'll find at priestsandvicars.com, HolyFail Wink

whatsallthehullaballoo · 07/06/2011 13:42

I also think that if people spend a little bit of time on here they will see that this is an articulate forum. It is up to them if they want to 'fit in' or not. YABU - but I like it Wink

shakey1500 · 07/06/2011 13:42

YABU. I agree, these threads trying to dictate what words/phrases are acceptable are tiresome now. I'll write how I please NOT how someone tells me to write. So, STFU :)

FWIW (

honeybehappy · 07/06/2011 13:44

Seriously why the fuck do you care how other people write/talk.
I don't like how some people use txt speak but im not going to start a thread about it because it's fucking boring and puts me off coming on here.

YABU

porcamiseria · 07/06/2011 13:44

OH fuck off. snobby cow

LieInsAreRarerThanTigers · 07/06/2011 13:44

What does Apocalypse, the txtspk or the snobbery?
Bairns and mam are just regional dialect - do we have to write as if from the Home Counties? I enjoy the variety.

honeybehappy · 07/06/2011 13:45

Oh and it's nice do know that you don't mind WTF would you provide us with a fucking list of the ones we are allowed to use????

Honeybee79 · 07/06/2011 13:46

But we all abbreviate - BF, DS bla bla. It's just an extension of that really though lol and hon are very annoying.

bupcakesandcunting · 07/06/2011 13:46

I enjoy regional dialect too. hun, lil and lol = not regional dialect. Unless you are from the region of Dingbatshire.

HolyFail · 07/06/2011 13:48

bupcakes, 2 laughs on one thread!!! Grin

@Dingbatshire

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 07/06/2011 13:49

The txtspk, the hunz, the use of fucking 'lil'

I am not a sodding snob, my fingertips swear like a trooper and I live in a crumbling 3 bed semi in a shitty northern town that has umpteen mentions in 'chavtowns'

bupcakesandcunting · 07/06/2011 13:51

I'm here all week

Grin
ChristianSalvesen62 · 07/06/2011 13:54

Grin I always say this to my children (21 & 18 now). It comes out of Bambi; Thumper's mum says it to him when he's being rude about Bambi.....

scottishmummy · 07/06/2011 13:56

oh do belt up no one appointed you editor. dont be such an ole harrumpher telling folk what to do

go hang with the spelling and syntax geeks.they love getting all indignant and mumsnet gorn to pot, about this sort of trivia

not like the old days, when everyone knew everyone else on mumsnet was a idyllic haven of niceness, florid vocabulary,
oh no,hang on thats not true either

so do it gie a rest

Mumofaflump · 07/06/2011 13:57

I like using "bless" and I don't have the first fucking clue about apostrophes. Or semi colons. That does not make me less able to put forward a reasoned argument.

Just to satisfy my curiosity, which of the following is correct?

My friend Jenna's apples.

My friend Jennas' apples.

My friend Jennas apples.

CoffeeIsMyFriend · 07/06/2011 14:00

Another thread to hide. Seem to be hiding more than commenting lately.

LieInsAreRarerThanTigers · 07/06/2011 14:00

A lot of this is motivated by snobbery though, even if you are not one, Apocalypse!
I don't like the swearing much and don't do it myself, but just shrug and think 'each to their own'. If someone has a good point to make I will read it and consider it; expletives and text speak both just distract and make posts less articulate, I think.
I like the fact that there are different writing styles and I am sure it does reflect age and social status.
