To have had plastic surgery in the past

Going on from a thread about a gastric band got me thinking if money was no object and you was unhappy would you succumb to the surgeons knife.
I had a nose job a few years ago, looking at it now it's made no difference to my life yes it looks great better than my hook nose but it's not changed my life.

Ive just had surgery that was sort of considered cosmetic.
I could argue that it was done because it could of got worse and effected my lungs. However the surgery i'm due to have next will have detrimental effect on my lung capacity so they kind of cancel each other out... Sure as hell makes me look alot better though!

The wonderful halfway results of my surgery are on my profile.

I didnt have to pay for it thankfully!

springbokscantjump · 07/06/2011 20:24

I think for most peopel it's not really how other people see them but how they see themselves. I want a boob job because before I was pg I felt ridiculous in a bra and loathed buying them as truthfully it wasn't like it was really necessary. Now post-pg I would like to remain the cup size I am now (although already decreasing as not bf any more).

katvond · 07/06/2011 20:26

Scarydog I hope your GP accepts your need for surgery mine didn't.
Even though I've a bad back due to heavy breasts.
Good luck let you know how you get on

I have botox and would love a boob job but rather worried about scarring and the anaesthetic.

razzlebathbone · 07/06/2011 20:29

I had a nose job eight years ago and it made a huge difference to me. One of the best things I ever did. And my face certainly does not look 'distorted'.

I don't see why people should be lumbered with something they didn't ask for or have any say in.

lovetheoneyourewith · 07/06/2011 20:31

Thread veins isn't surgery! It's a beauty treatment.

I had mine done in a salon about 5 years ago.

suwoo · 07/06/2011 20:45

I also had a breast reduction at 19 going from a 30 HH down to about a C. I am a 32FF now but they still look small. Mine was done on the NHS for psychological reasons rather than physical.

HowAboutAHotCupOfShutTheHellUp · 07/06/2011 22:09

Boob job! From a small C to a small, full D. They are amazing! Don't look fake, don't stop me doing anything, still exercise intensely. Clothes look better, I just feel better about myself when I look in the mirror. Did it for me, no one else, not the insecure type, just wanted to look my best, for myself.

However, they haven't changed my life; still got the same DP, friends, job, life, all thats changed is I have nicer boobs!

jasminetom · 08/06/2011 07:51

I waited on the NHS waiting list for the first 18 years of my life to have my ears pinned back and then got excluded for being over 18. At the age of 34 I finally had it done. I am so pleased I did, I feel so much better about myself. I have botox every 3 months because I have huge bags under my eyes and I used to use sunbeds (please don't) and again, it makes me feel more confident. Is is life changing? Not really and seeing as my husband can't tell the difference in either my ears or my face, clearly I am doing it for the right reasons (me) rather than for someone else.

discobeaver · 08/06/2011 08:13

The plastic surgeons official organisation is called BAAPS

I'd definitely have some 'work' maybe face fillers and tummy and boobs, but not sure about the boobs cos I'd want a lift, where they have to cut the nipple OFF and reattach it. So that might be a step too far. Implants would just give me big, saggy boobs.
Might have a smaller nose. An

discobeaver · 08/06/2011 08:16

I've had some wart type things taken off - 20 quid at a beuty salon/clinic, a private surgeon quoted £300!

kreecherlivesupstairs · 08/06/2011 08:52

I would like some fillers in my marionette lines. Honestly, they make me look so miserable and I am not.
A friend had her breasts implanted when we lived in Thailand. Her self confidence and self esteem rose dramatically. They looked perfectly natural and not like she had a couple of cereal bowls put under her chest muscles.

EmmaBemma · 08/06/2011 08:58

I had a breast reduction and it was literally life-changing. I do have some light scarring and my boobs will never be the same after two children (I had it done BC!), but I did manage to breastfeed my second child.

Surgery is a huge deal and should never be gone into lightly. I agonised for ages about mine but in the end decided it was a risk I wanted to take.

suwoo · 08/06/2011 09:20

I have heavy scarring Emma, but it was still so worth it and, indeed, life changing. I too was able to breastfeed.

pingu2209 · 08/06/2011 09:32

I was the OP for the gastric surgery. I would def have the gastric surgery and then the tummy tuck and boob lift after. If I needed my arms, legs or bottom done as well, I would opt for a full body lift.

As I am not yet 40. In about 10 years I would look at a face lift. In between I would have all the non-invasive stuff to make my skin better, plumper etc.

I fully believe in plastic surgery as long as it doesn't go too far and make you look like the Joker.

CroissantNeuf · 08/06/2011 09:36

jasminetom -I had my ears pinned back. Like you I'd been on a waiting list since I was about 10 (when I decided I wanted it done) but due to some cock-up was forgotten about so was about 18/19 when I eventually had it done.

I'm glad I had it done as I'd been so concious of them as a child/teen. It meant that I could go on to wear my hair anyway I wanted afterwards rather than try to disguise my ears by wearing it down.

Like you said, not life-changing , but it makes a world of difference to me. Smile

jasminetom · 08/06/2011 10:57

Croissant, disguising by wearing hair down NEVER works-the damn things just poke through!

katvond · 08/06/2011 11:03

That's it pingu it's when they go to far. Trout pout is not a good look

deliciousdevilwoman · 08/06/2011 12:44

I have "non invasive" treatments such as botox and filler. I still look like myself, only "fresher".

I have a secret plastic surgery fund for a tummy tuck and lazer lipo. Just need to lose the extra 2 stone I am carrying first.

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 08/06/2011 14:22

Well, the GP was very nice, very understanding and seems to fully support my request for a reduction, but she also said that it is very, very difficult to persuade the PCT to do it these days (as opposed to, say, 5 years ago) as there simply isn't as much money around. She will be writing to the PCT to refer me, then it goes before a panel to make the final decision. I'll be seriously gutted if they say no, but I suspect they probably will.
Everything crossed! Smile

suwoo · 08/06/2011 15:06

Message me if you need any advice on the op Moist. A MNetter had hers done within the last 5 ears if you need more advice.

whackamole · 08/06/2011 15:50

I would have a mole thing removed from my nose, but at the risk of sounding smug I am happier than I have ever been with myself since being with my OH, even if I am 2 and half stone overweight.

If I had the time and money I would hire someone to personal train me and do all the cooking till I was 9 stone again though!

Mabelface · 08/06/2011 15:55

I'd have my upper eyes lifted as they're heavy and sit on my eyelids. I'd also hire a personal trainer, shift my wait them have a tummy tuck to fix the damage having triplets caused me. I'd have lipo on my chin too. Possibly have my nose reduced in size slightly.

katvond · 08/06/2011 15:58

Will keep everything crossed for you Quench :)
Good luck

Anyone looking for cosmetic or aesthetic surgery should seriously do their homework first. So many friends are botoxing at the gym with very little thought .... what's the long term risk, etc and is botox right for everyone? Perhaps fillers or a good medical facial is a better option. A friend of mine looked at botox only to be told that fillers would be a better route to a younger look. Seriously, research girls. I found treatmentadviser.com on the internet and it's a great research tool - ask any questions ... no one is trying to sell you anything here...
