I dont answer the door, someone is there now, knock knock knocking, bless 'um Smile

My family walk in, and call first, friends all text first. The postie leaves everything in the porch, or shouts Grin Im not expecting anyone so why should i bother? Its a knock at the door not a summons!

I never answer my phone, unless its my DH, Dsis, Dniece or Ddad. Id rather hear the message and reply at my leisure...if at all.

Unlike posters who dont for mental health reasons (although i do suffer with these and it is sometimes the reason) I am a LAZY COW :)

montmartre · 06/06/2011 13:24

At home, alone?
When would that be then... sounds like heaven- I certainly wouldn't be opening the door, too busy enjoying peace and quiet to myself!

PharoahNuff · 06/06/2011 13:24

they text and say "I am at your door"?

rofls lolling in extremis

I don't always answer the door when I'm on my own, but only when I suspect/know it some hawker plying their trade. I tend to be very rude to them, so sometimes just avoid the "confrontation".

MmeLindor. · 06/06/2011 13:28

I had to text a friend when I arrived at her door because ringing the bell, or knocking gently on the door could WAKEN THE BABY and she would go nuts.

We had to pad stealthily down the hall in our socks and whisper. No tea until baby woke in case the kettle disturbed the little mite.

bupcakesandcunting · 06/06/2011 13:30

Pagwatch I do love you, Hun Grin

BabyDubsEverywhere · 06/06/2011 13:31

'are you in, i'll pop round for a cuppa?'

'yeah, just come straight through x'

I always open the door and I am always told off for doing so - by my DP and by my mother. But I would feel terribly rude not answering, because I am quite clearly in, my car is there, the TV is on etc. There have been times when the person I have opened the door too has amde me feel uncomfortable, especially as I live quite remotely, but more often than not it is because I have answered the door braless and in manky clothes because they always seem to do it on my day off when I think "hmmm I will slob around the hosue today, no one is coming round..."

PharoahNuff · 06/06/2011 13:31

ah well any person who put a x on a text would be put in perrycombovers chute

You're not invited to come straight through then!

xx

sue52 · 06/06/2011 13:33

My house is hard to find and hidden from the road. If someone makes it past the dogs, I answer the door.

emmanumber3 · 06/06/2011 13:33

I also don't answer the door unless I am expecting someone. I don't answer the phone either unless I know who it is & it's someone I want to speak to.

Just call me Mrs Unsociable Grin.

reelingintheyears · 06/06/2011 13:34

I only answer if i can be bothered...

I hide if it's the bailiffs.

I live alone and don't answer the door unless I've made arrangements for someone to visit either. I never have unannounced visitors and I can't stand it when you're expecting a delivery so you go to answer and it turns out to be JW instead. Especially when I'm lounging in my pjs and they peer down the hallway to see the messy chaos inside Blush

PerryCombover · 06/06/2011 13:35

prototypes of chute lead to shark tank but there was a mix up with the children/food/unwelcome callers
we are sticking with the retractable bridge now

PerryCombover · 06/06/2011 13:36

babydubs

are you referring to the popular beat combo the "xx"?

if not what do you mean?

OP posts:
seeker · 06/06/2011 13:38

So people don;t answer the door to anyone who hasn't rung first but also don;t answer the phone. How does that work?

PharoahNuff · 06/06/2011 13:39

ROAR

ONLY if its a number they know
or it could be Someone Else

I think it might have been said in jest, Seeker...

RubberDuck · 06/06/2011 13:42

I answer the door, mainly cos if I don't the buggers then peer through the window and see me on the computer Grin. I do have a very anti-social 'bugger off if you're trying to sell me something' sign though - it's great, I don't even have to tell them no - I can just point to the sign then slam the door.

Don't like phones. Either making calls or receiving them. Years working in Customer Service have given me a pavlovian stress response the second a phone rings. Have caller ID on the landline and never pick up to INTERNATIONAL, WITHHELD, UNKNOWN or my mother Grin

MillyR · 06/06/2011 13:43

I don't answer the door to random people. If it is a delivery for a neighbour I would be able to tell by the delivery van in the street. If it is one the neighbours they would knock and walk in anyway.

They can tell if I am in the house because the dogs stand at the window and bark if I'm out. If I am in the house they run away from the window and bark in my direction.

BabyDubsEverywhere · 06/06/2011 13:43

I answer the phone nto three family members and DH, so i know if they are coming, popping in doenst occur in our family ever, it is always planned, even if only 10 minutes its always planned....

Friends only text really, so answer by text. Again its all quite planned. Im busy renovating i need prior notice for visitors.

Not very spontaneous, but happy with it :)

thegruffalosma · 06/06/2011 13:45

I answer the door if it's around postman time otherwise I don't bother if I'm not expecting anyone - none of my friends/family drop by without checking I'm in first as they live too far away so it's only ever salespeople I miss out on. I always answer the phone though.
