CHANNE 4 TV did the problem well a few weeks back. Forced some stores to take things off the shelves.

Do you parents find it a major problem, minor probelm or no problem at all?

I prefer children not to grow up too quickly; but the genie is out of the bottle. They do now grow up quickly. Can the clock be turned back?

It was certainly different when I was a child.

I agree with you to a point, nochocs and it is certainly the parent's choice. But it's just sad when you see an eight year old wearing a glittery t-shirt emblazoned with "Too Hot For You". She knows how to read, she knows what it says, and at eight years old is already thinking about her appearance and what "being hot" means to others instead of, I don't know, riding her bike with her friends or something.

I wish I was good at cryptic clues.

I'd piss all over The Time crossword, and I'd understand Gabby's bloody posts.

Is this a new thing? I remember my mum banning me from wearing a rara (sp?.) skirt when I was about 9, and also forbidding ear piercing. At boarding school we all stuffed socks down our bras and took our skirts right up Blush.

theinet · 06/06/2011 20:42

i was shocked to a few years ago to see a 4 year old dancing down the street singing " I'm horny, horny horny horny" when that song was in the charts.

Ditto tops saying "porn star" or " i ripped mum a new asshole".

It is a problem and has been for a while.

CheerfulYank · 06/06/2011 20:46

Yes, very very rude LeQueen . In actual fact I feel quite hard done by, and to make amends I demand you fly to Minnesota and help me finish the renovations on my house. Wink

I think it is a start. Just to have it 'out there' that dressing kids in this way is wrong. It won't guarantee them a better more idyllic start in life but it sends a message which may stay with them as they grow up and have children of their own. Sometimes people need to be told repeatedly before they get it. I have seen some horrors on little girls and it is so Sad.

I think this is very worrying and certainly don't welcome it in any way shape or form.

noddyholder · 06/06/2011 21:02

I see a lot of it and think the parents are ill informed and just not aware. They just want their kids to be little jordans and kerrys because that shit is equated with success in this country and everything that goes with it like the crappy clothes and fake hair etc is associated with these tabloid success stories. They need to be shown the other side of this although I agree it will be a long road.

As a mother of dd who's just turned 10, can I also stand up for padded bra's. I have yet to see a push-up bra in dd size, lightly padded and moulded yes.

Dd has just got her first bra and after trying lots of styles (crop-top style, unpadded and padded) I ended up buying her the padded ones. One dd found them the most comfortable, having tender growing nipples that has to be a must. Two both dd and I liked the fact it stopped dd's pointy nipples showing. On a personal level it gave dd a better shape and made her growing bust less noticeable.

noddyholder · 06/06/2011 21:18

God that is scary. You don't need to be an aspiring doctor to have self respect and dress decently. Even more reason to do something to challenge this. Kerry katona is ill fgs and is being held up as some kind of success because the tabloids follow her every move. And jordan to me looks like the most miserable sad human being on teh planet.
