CHANNE 4 TV did the problem well a few weeks back. Forced some stores to take things off the shelves.

Do you parents find it a major problem, minor probelm or no problem at all?

I prefer children not to grow up too quickly; but the genie is out of the bottle. They do now grow up quickly. Can the clock be turned back?

It was certainly different when I was a child.

Vidoes are not my main concern as you do not need to be watching these turn the tv over and watch kids on the computer!

My strong concern is - I am sat in my car listening to music on the radio and the news inbetween, then Rhiannah comes on singing that whips and chains excite her and my 3 and 4 years olds are sat in the back listening and repeating the words. It seems that the words have become quite disgusting in most of the songs now.

I find now I am restricted to listening to my discs now and miss out on the freedom of listening to the radio! :-(

GypsyMoth · 06/06/2011 10:41

you can turn the radio off easily tho....listen when they arent around, thats parenthood, being restricted is what happens with little kids on the scene

slartybartfast · 06/06/2011 10:45

dd now 14, her favourite song to sing along to ? 10 years ago, was Tom Jones Sex Bomb

slartybartfast · 06/06/2011 10:46

actually she was 2 [shock
Blush

and that seems lame now

GypsyMoth · 06/06/2011 10:48

slarty.....that was tom jones!! not the 'youngsters of today' lol!! cant blame young people for everything then can we....Grin

weblette · 06/06/2011 10:49

Bought some of these for my 11yo dd at the weekend. She says they're far more comfortable than the non-padded sort. They don't have any 'uplift' - why on earth would you for a 30AA?

GERII · 06/06/2011 10:51

I don't have a problem with the padded bikini - it is up to the parent what their child wears, I have 5 children and they all know my word is the last and I will not buy unsuitable clothing for my children.
Forget the padding, what about the parents damaging their children's feet buying them high heels !! :-/
Padding is not going to damage and is hardly noticeable!

TheFeministsWife · 06/06/2011 10:53

For me it's about the videos and song lyrics rather than the clothes. The clothes I just refuse to buy, but the videos and also the advertising! Videos, yes I can turn over but my 8 year old knows how to work the TV and sometimes likes to watch music videos on Saturday morning when we're still in bed. Also big friggin billboards adorned with naked women here there and everywhere. And the bloody lad mags with some bimbo with her arse hanging out on the same shelf as a Scooby Doo magazine. Gah I'm just bloody angry now. Angry

GypsyMoth · 06/06/2011 10:55

high heels? are we talking play shoes.....or stillettos marketed at children??

Makeminealarge · 06/06/2011 10:57

kids just want to grow up too young.I remember myself as a young kid wanting a bra as other kids had one and i was a late developer so needed padding, or used my pocket money to spend in town on a mini skirt to change into on way to a friends without my mum knowing, sang along to my favorite pop singers (albeit in those days it was kylie!) and wanted to dance/move/dress like them.

Parental choice/restriction can only go so far! peer pressure is huge for kids. So they will do what they want to do in order to 'fit' in with their peers. I personally think this is turning into a moral dilemma by the media. we can't possibly allow a 'big brother' society to develop!

yes i agree kids clothing should be monitored and that a 8/9pm watershed control on tv should be reinforced to include certain extreme music/pop videos etc but it shouldnt go too far, kids will just rebel.

GERII · 06/06/2011 11:24

I totally agree!

GERII · 06/06/2011 11:28

My children are always with me in the car, and I now do not listen to the radio, but is this really good! radio's are on all over the place and I am forever hearing disgusting lyrics.

Can I go and turn off all the workmen's radio's and turn off cafe's radio's etc? At least televisions are only in your home or pub, where children are not forced to be.

GERII · 06/06/2011 11:35

ILOVETIFFANY - Shoes marketed at children! as they will be in them all day every day, my mother has damaged her feet due to wearing these shoes constantly over the years and she started from being a teen so imagine younger children's feet, they are so fragile and easily shape to the shoe, in high heeled shoes feet slide forward and there little tiny toes become squashed and this after time of wearing these shoes cause unnecessary damage that is irreversible.

GERII · 06/06/2011 11:46

All these flashy expensive gadgets cause so much trouble for young children who are influenced by everything they see. Giving them direct access to the internet without a responsible adult being there is asking for trouble. Don't buy them these things, let them stay children! I have a 17 year old and he knew if he wanted the latest technology which at that time was having internet at home it was always under my supervision, as for my younger children, i will not be buying them gadgets they can take away from home and I can not supervise.

GERII · 06/06/2011 11:54

TheFeministsWife - I totally agree with everything you have said if they took off the video's and the lyrics until a much later time like they used to then it would be much better for everyone, but not just the tv the radio also my 7 year old niece is still singing sons heard in her mothers car to my children in our car, and I have to explain to her why singing "Whips and chains excite me" is not so good especially in front of my two youngest. I have had to stop listening to the radio myself now due to all of the bad song coming out, do they not have anything nice to sing about?

GERII · 06/06/2011 12:21

There is nothing wrong with padded bras as most young girls develop early so padded for the ones with little is fair.

Heeled shoes are ok for the girl becoming a teen if they are not high stiletto's.
Lyrics should be watched and if offensive should be branded the same as films and have with an age restriction.

GypsyMoth · 06/06/2011 14:47

how can you age restrict lyrics?? Confused

do you have links to these shoes? i want to see them!!

itisnearlysummer · 06/06/2011 14:55

www.monsoon.co.uk/boots+shoes/girl-shoes/icat/girlpumps/&itemsperpage=1000&bklist=icat,5,shop,children,kidsshoes,girlpumps

these are the only high heeled shoes I've seen for young girls. Not just in monsoon, but other shops too. admittedly, they're not stilletos, but still too high for children. IMO.

itisnearlysummer · 06/06/2011 14:56

i've seen children wearing heels slightly higher than these in the past, but i really don't like seeing little girls scraping their heels across the floor or running in heels of any height.

GypsyMoth · 06/06/2011 15:02

what are they? an inch?

look like special occasion shoes to me....or the cha cha cha name indicates dance shoes

i thought we were talking everyday stuff,or school type shoes lol!

itisnearlysummer · 06/06/2011 15:04

I think they probably are.

I don't know about shoes for other occasions.

tbh though, i still don't want to see 'little' children wearing heels.

ScousyFogarty · 06/06/2011 16:01

Links? its all over the news today and yesterday,,,and in the future.

its a runner.

Channel 4 tv did make some stores take things off the shelf. One refused

They were filming inside stores without permision Thats radical.

I think there is something in it; but its overblown Cameron will welcom the diversion from real stories

OP posts:
GypsyMoth · 06/06/2011 16:10

how on earth can channel 4 'make' anyone take items off shelves!

i asked for links to innapropriate clothing people are complaining about.......not seen anything yet!!

noddyholder · 06/06/2011 16:12

There is absolutely no reason for children to be wearing this tat and tbh it should be parents who just veto it and don't buy it and then the govt wouldn't have to waste time and resources policing something that shouldn't even be there in the first place. Why can't people let them be children? I have seen little girls in sparkle and glitter like little bloody strippers it is wrong

financialadvice · 06/06/2011 16:16

For me and my family at the moment. no problem I can say NO and have very good ability to censer and know what I find appropriate for my dd and discuss issues that may arise from this.

for me and my family later on. huge problem when my dd has a little more freedom to explore lifes experiences and may encounter others attitudes towards her as a female that have been damaged by an exposure and expectations of woman and girls.

societal problem huge. for those reasons above. some parents do not have the ability to protect their own children from poor perceptions, sexualisation, therefor the state must have a responsibility to children.
