I clear 3 - 4 lots out every day in my borders on my garden and have tried dozens of different cat repelant stuff but it doesn't stop them, It's doing my head in, each time I pick it up and dig over the soil I come home from work to see it dug over and pooed in again. Bloody cats!

I seriously doubt it was cats if it wasn't covered up...

Cats are very clean and private animals, they always cover it up by nature to cover the smell.

Do none of you ever think perhaps some of your problems are from foxes?

And all of you people worried about your kids picking up shit, they could do the exact same at a park or in school.

StrawberryMewMew · 06/06/2011 17:19

Nullius I agree, if anyone hurt my cat I would inflict a hell of a lot of pain without a second though... Just like they did.

GreenEyesandHam · 06/06/2011 17:24

I'll bear that in mind thanks...still going to use the deterrents at my disposable to keep my garden free of cat shit until my 3yo is older, but thanks for the erm, warning Hmm

Do foxes hate pepper too does anyone know?

Boozilla · 06/06/2011 17:25

Holly apparently works well, anything prickly sprinkled around the area they usually do their business should deter them. I realised this because the only area in my garden that wasn't full of buried cat shit was the area under next door's holly tree that had some fallen holly leaves lying about.

rosie39forever · 06/06/2011 17:30

Strawberry its def cats in my garden have caught them in the act many times and shooed them away, my garden is the only safe outdoor space my dd has so this is a major problem for us and need find a way to stop them coming into the garden, and just for the record would not harm any animal so feel free not to inflict a hell of a lot of pain on me.

StrawberryMewMew · 06/06/2011 17:32

Sorry, I'm just used to the people on these threads who want to poison, shoot or get dogs on cats.

On another thread a product made from Lion dung was suggested? Have you tried this? It wont harm them and will just deter them from coming in through natural instincts.

Nullius · 06/06/2011 17:32

For the record - non harmful things are ok, I do understand if you dont own cats its annoying. But it really is an over-reaction.

Holly, for example, is natural growing, they will avoid it, and it wont poison them, so having holly bushes is not what id call cruel.

But when people are talking about chilli, spikes, water pistols and poison, that is cruel. And as for dogs, well the last dog that tried it with my cat got well and truely fronted out, my cat nearly took its head off and the neighbour had to come out and break it up. They didnt try that one again.

rosie39forever · 06/06/2011 17:36

Yes have tried lion poo, various powder and peppery things and have now run out of ideas, ive tried growing holly and lavender so any ideas would be welcome.

StrawberryMewMew · 06/06/2011 17:38

Have you tried orange peels, plastic bottles, electric deterents or installing a sprinkler that can be motion activated?

Nullius · 06/06/2011 17:38

rosie if you dont dislike cats just the poo in the garden, the very best thing to do would be to get a cat!! Honestly get a nice tom from a rescue and they wont go in your garden anymore.

No more poo cleaning, and lots of furry cuddles. Happy days :)

StrawberryMewMew · 06/06/2011 17:38

For the record, I do not condone throwing buckets of water of skooshy guns as these can be quite frightening but sprinklers are more natural and like rain.

StrawberryMewMew · 06/06/2011 17:40

I agree Nullius Just make sure he is litter box or toilet trained so he does not poo in your garden. Wink

mbb · 06/06/2011 17:42

There may not be a legal responsibility re your cat shitting in someone elses garden but it is certainly a matter of basic common courtesy. Why should I have to clear up my after someone elses pet in my own garden? My dog never did it in my neighbours garden so why should I accept their cat doing it in mine, they know about it, they should take responsibility for it. It comes down to basic good manners, and anyone who says its ok for their cat to shit all over my front garden obviously has no manners at all.

rosie39forever · 06/06/2011 17:42

I used to have a lovely tom but dd who has autism would be too rough with a cat so no can do it wouldn't be fair to the cat but am considering a dog though.

Nullius · 06/06/2011 17:47

Well having a dog will just result in picking poo up from everywhere!

You could try those sound things but i cant tell you if they are any good, always had cats myself so not a big problem, and cat mess outside doesnt really bother me to be honest.

StrawberryMewMew · 06/06/2011 17:51

I've heard the sound things are quite good.

Mbb By law you have to pick up your dogs crap, cat owners don't. And cats are wild animals they don't see your garden as belonging to someone, they don't understand that concept. Tbh, that is because it isn't yours, it is just land that within the laws of humans you own.

That doesn't apply to animals. Any land is fair game to them.

Sorry but that's the way it is.

Boozilla · 06/06/2011 18:47

I'm with you mmb

Boozilla · 06/06/2011 18:47

Mbb even Blush

naturalbaby · 06/06/2011 18:51

and as for the bird poo all over my garden! i can't sit down on any of my garden chairs without having to check for poo and clean it off if i want to relax properly. they just don't seem to care where they do it these days. gah! all i want is to relax in my own garden without flies, wasps, bees buzzing round me, spiders, ants, woodlice crawling everywhere, neighbours kids shouting, other neighbours dogs barking....

StrawberryMewMew · 06/06/2011 18:54

Fgs, so you just want all of wildlife to abide by your rules so you can sit where you want?

Do you realise how stupid that sounds?

Of course they don't care where they do it, they're not supposed to!

naturalbaby · 06/06/2011 20:21

in a word. yes. i want to do the gardening in peace without being boythered by poo and bugs. is that too much to ask?!?

i'm sure they do care where they do it - they wouldn't crap on their food would they??

Suncottage · 06/06/2011 20:38

Explain to anyone who has loved a cat or a dog why anyone would put poison out to ensure an awful death. I can beacuse I have had to explain to a child that some 'bad person' has poisoned her cats.

The same people who put down slug pellets so a hedgehog dies with it's insides being melted and blood pours out of it's orifices.

When a hedgehog eats slugs and snails you do not need slug pellets?

Agghh! Hedgehogs' poo! Yuck! Kill them. They are carnivores as well and poo over your garden.

You are a child of nature and so cuddly. Never buy your child a pet.

StrawberryMewMew · 06/06/2011 20:39

Well, yes it is too much to ask. Maybe the bugs want to roam in peace without you digging their home up. Ever thought about that?

And obviously they wouldn't crap on their food, but they don't care if they are doing it on your property because they don't know better.

It's a free world.

GreenEyesandHam · 06/06/2011 20:41

Naturalbaby what you need is a big plastic bubble roof, like at Centerparcs Grin

naturalbaby · 06/06/2011 23:41

funnily enough we've been planning a glass/plastic roof type structure over our patio...i'll go draw up some plans for dh to extend it a bit in all directions. i lurve centreparcs!

hmm, free world yes but my home is my castle and the garden is all mine - dc's get a little corner at the bottom to ride their bikes and dh gets the lawnmower in the shed.

Wine strawberry?
