To think that the song Nicole Whatserface sang on BGT was obscene.

And shouldn't have been on a family tv show? I know it was after nine but there must have been millions of kids watching.
It was all about her body being touched, someone going down down down, keeping her coming and talking dirty to her.
I am not usually so prudish, but I found it really offensive.

I agree with goingon40. Pop music is awful nowadays. It's just the same old same old. Generic female singers rolling out generic songs to generic tunes.

YANBU. DH was the first to mention it but I was thinking how glad DD is still too going for this. I know it was after 9pm but I think a lot younger children would have been up watching this.

Ultimately, I think there will be a reaction to all this. Or else it will just get worse, I don't know which.

I dont let me 8 year old son watch music stations or X Factor etc on TV because its all so crass and sexualised (a bit different from "Love Grows Where my Rosemary Goes" from my childhood ...)

I try not to think about it too much, its just too depressing.

I too was appalled, the lyrics were shocking and should not have been allowed on a family show.
However, its not just that song that sickened me about the show, the way david hasselhoff ogled the female acts during auditions was disgusting, the fact that a number of acts got through seemingly because they were scantily clad young women and last nights BLATANT ogling of Amanda's body as the judges were introduced have all had me yelling at the TV and lecturing my DDs about ambition based on talent not clothing (or lack of it)
I really really should stop watching it.

I didnt see it on bgt as I try as much as possible to avoid 'make me a star' tv, so just watched on YouTube.
I'd heard this song on the radio the other day, and DH and I had said how disgusting it was, as is the rhianna song whips and chains song, I also think the kiss with a fist song is just wrong too!

I think the tv and music industry need to take some ownership... Why can't we have some positive messages??

I remember as a child merrily skipping home singing loudly the lyrics of a song I had just heard.... "Frigging in the Riggin", I had absolutely no idea of the meaning of the words but enjoyed the catchy / edgy tune and the way it was presented. Unfortunately, my mum DID know the meaning of the words and reacted appropriately with a swift clip around the ear.

So I am no prude and not usually so judgy, until it comes to the influences over my DD.

My point is that so many children might be found skipping around singing this song with no idea of the meanings of "touch me here" or "put it in me" all within earshot of adults who do know the true meaning.

Nicole S should by now have enough cash in the bank to stand up for herself and accept responsibility for her own actions.

and IMO the outfit resembled those seen on My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding.

O I was shocked by the lyrics as well. utterly disgusting, is there really any need for that? And why was she trying to sound Jamaican? Me like this, 'me like' that?

I heard this on the radio yesterday afternoon, had DD 13 and DS 10 in the car. I remember thinking I dread to think what the video will be like if I'm cringeing just at the lyrics.

I think I heard on the news recently that music videos are going to be rated like films as there's so many that are explicit. My DCs don't seem to be interested in MTV etc, thankfully, but some of the ones I see at the gym are not far short of porn.

Getting upset out this, is the moralistic equivelent of living on junk food and then moaning about getting fat.

Seriously, this kind of tabloid tv is deliberately set at the lowest possible common denominator.

I also didn't see the point of her on the show, she has no connection to BGT wouldn't it have been better to have a past act on there like they did the night before with Diversity and JLS, who I thought were really good.

I agree. But not sure why people are surprised by this. The Pussycat Dolls songs were not exactly feminist anthems.

Nicole and the other Pussycat Dolls were only ever supposed to be marketed as sexy. The pussycat doll was a burlesque show in Vegas beforehand. They make me cringe, and it certainly isn't something I enjoy young children listening to. But it seems like it's just so acceptable these days Sad

Vile is what I thought. I am no prude and on another TV show would have enjoyed it but BGT would have had millions kids up late allowed to watch the final, an idiot knows that. The TV company know this, but obviously do not give a shit and thought they would air it anyway. Another reason for me to hate BGT and Xfactor type shows. More than happy to accommodate all the kids and young teens who will text in their votes and make them money but CBA to accommodate their needs at just past 9pm on a Saturday night.

I hate Rhianna too. Talented woman but FFS - yes love you have a Fnjo - so bloody what, we all do!!! Hate her even more especially since my 10yo DD has started singing "Chains and whips excite me" FFS!!!! Thats thanks to having the radio on. Makes me cringe to see my DD and her mates happily singing along, with no idea what they are actually singing iykwim.

anyway the song is pants, i am not that bothered by teh lyrics many songs that are considered good or great music have violent or explicit lyrics but its very obvious the shock factor has long gone and its boring, lazy song writing

i love rhianna i think she is great, she is not aiming her act toward young girls so should not need to tone down her act but if i had a yong daughter i would be that happy her singing along with some of her songs. luckily my ds loves kings of leon, some of the lyrics are absolute filth but its hard to understand what is being sung so not worried jsut yet and he is only 3

YANBU, I was only half listening but it made me look up and be shocked.

But, its nothing new really. I remember being 8 or 9, riding round on my bike singing "girl I wanna make you sweat, sweat till you cant sweat no more" from the early 90s - had no idea what the sexual connotations to that song were, but several adults must have cringed at the time!!

Freud I have to disagree with you though. The fact that 3YO doesn't fully understand the meaning of, say Rhianna's "Sex in the air I love the smell of it" doesn't make it acceptable or less disturbing to be singing along or learning the words. There is raunchy/ sexy and then plain revolting.

This is why I gave up listening to "pop". I'll stick to my emo/indie/punk... Not quite so bothered if DS sings about rebelling against capitalism, and a love lost... Grin Not about sexual preferences

Anyway, yes, sex sells... But it shouldn't do, and it DEFINITELY should not be used in a predominantly youth based market.

I should probably know this but... but is there a watershed for radio stations? Or is it just TV, or is 9 the watershed for all?
If so, that and many pop songs shouldn't be allowed due to adult content, surely?

he sings along to milk by kol along with others. i do not have any of rhiannas music but think she is great to watch though he does think whats my name is a song for his nana :o i agree i would not be happy with soem lyrics being sung by him but much will go over his head and the stuff that is not obvious does not bother me

i was bought up on the beatles, jimi hendrix, cream, marvin gaye and their are plenty of explicit naughty goings on in their music its just not as obvious and as for nirvana what about all the references to death and drugs

i guess its not what the song is about its the way its done

I thought it was awful, and when kids do Catch up TV... will not allow them to watch (not that they would know too well what she was insinuating.... but the sexual dancing was O.O.O)

As was Rhiannon and Christina on X factor. Shame on ITV producers to allow it. Wrong, wrong, W R O N G!!!!!!!!!!!!

She looked like she thought she was in a strip club. Singing was shite too. As for the actual song words Shock

I'm glad the kids were in bed, even dp was shocked, much to my amazement Grin
